no mesh IS better!!
Im pretty certain the mesh that was fitted to my bumper by the body shop is not the same stuff supplied by nissan.... looking at the pics of craig davids genunine 99 spec mesh the gaps a MUCH larger than the mesh that was on mine. also if im not mistaken from the pics the IC's dont have mesh in front of them at all?!?!?!

low boost, then hight boost?!?!?!
I think I sussed it Ryan, removed the nasty mesh on my bumper and everything is running a lot cooler now and the low boost issue has gone away. am I right in saying that if the car enters safety boost because it has detected detonation would swithing the engine off and starting again be enough to "clear" the error and start again with full boost (until it detected dett again)? there were never any stored error codes in the ECU and from what I can tell from the searches I have done on here the ecu detecting dettonation from a properly working knock sensor and circuit wouldnt create an error code anyway.....

no mesh IS better!!
got stock ICs and the 99 spec front end the holes dont exactly line up properly with them anyway (anybody else noticed this?) the horn is mor visible than the IC. and its the oil coolers on show though the central hole, I have a very large autobox cooler which is going to be a bit vulnerable, slightly worried about this.... replacing ICs will just be a pain as Im sure I can source stock ones for next to nothing... my mesh was so bad though it was going to be a cooked engine so I think I have done the right thing..

no mesh IS better!!
indeed! :D im guessing bugger all air was flowing through that nasty mesh. it also solved my low boost probs so it was almost certainly safty boost kicking in when sensing dettonation. I think, once again, I have been a very lucky boy! :D

no mesh IS better!!
just took the car for a spin after removing the mesh from the front bumper.. HUGE difference in running temperature... Had overheating problems today so flushed system and refilled (although this was done about 2 weeks ago by baggins so I doubt that was the cause...) also re-fitted smithy's stainless airflow guide thing and cut out the mesh from my '99 spec bumper (mesh was VERY fine with little diamond gaps about 2mm x 4mm) car now runs about 15-20 degrees cooler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I gave it a good run before I could easily make the water temp go over 100 degrees and have to slow right down till it cooled off a bit. couldnt make it go over 90 today even with a good 20 minute caning! hopefully this is the end of my overheating problems... only time (and a REALLY hot day) will tell.

NZR But did anyone see this?
the press conference on match of the day last night made me cringe more than watching the office!!! those were some shame faced individuals.... probably the only good call the ref made in the entire match was sending those two off, possibly more bowyers fault than dyer but still discraceful... real shame is they are both decent players, booting the pair out on loan to some lesser premiership clubs should teach them a lesson they wont forget soon...

What did you do with your zed today?
Gorgeous sunday, sun is shining, birds are singing, so what did you and your Z get up to today?? Me and my bucket spent the day overheating at random with me trying to put water back in faster than it was pissing out of the expansion bottle... grrrr. :headvswal so a quick trip to harry halfords, got some flushing solution and the best coolant/antifreeze they had to offer and flushed the damn coolant system about five times until the water was crystal clear then filled her back up again... hose was out was roped in the rug rat and a neighbours lad to help wash her, at least if it overheats and im at the side of the road with the bonnet up and steam everywhere the car will not be dirty!! :D (also too the plunge and removed all the mesh from the front of the car to see if that helps cooling at all... looks a bit ugly (can see all the oil coolers etc but its a compromise im willing to make) )

Stupid embarassing zed!
lmao reminds me of a trick my mate played on me... when I was a slip of a lad at 19 I was lucky enough to have a brand spanking 3 series as a company car, when parking up outside a club we stopped in a bit of traffic and were checking out some girls in the queue, my mate slyly slipped the car out of gear so when I pulled away I just revved the engine very loudly, everybody in the queue looks and with perfect timing he shouts "look at me everyone, I've got a BMW!!!" I looked like a right f'ing plonker! :D

low boost, then hight boost?!?!?!
lol it was pretty toasty today, and i was gunning it quite on my private test track..! will check for leaks too though!

low boost, then hight boost?!?!?!
I will put that on my to-do list! :) cheers!

low boost, then hight boost?!?!?!
ok will give that a go tomorrow. thank. erm... which ones the knock sensor connector! :)

low boost, then hight boost?!?!?!
MAF really? engine still runs really smooth though.. ? thought that would make it run rough...
-
low boost, then hight boost?!?!?!
first occurence has been today I think.. and yes its very hot here.. So it could still be detting? any other way to tell without a conzult? im using optimax, perhaps I should try some octane boosting stuff in there as well? Water temperature is about 90-95 degrees so engine is pretty toasty and the charge must be equally hot... going to remove the mesh in front of the IC's tomorrow as well. was also going to have a play with an IC water jet kit I got a while ago but never fitted....

low boost, then hight boost?!?!?!
Noticed a bit of an odd problem today, whilst hooning around the car felt a little sluggish and I noticed that Im only getting around 5-6psi of boost, bugger i think, either a boost leak or safety boost (possibly from dett as its a bloody hot day...) stop for a little and have a check over the visible TB and IC air pipes, no obvious problems so I carry on my merry way, problem now gone, back to pull 9psi.... little further down the road, im now only getting 5-6... arse... turns out that if I stop the car and switch off, then start again I'm back to full boost, but not for very long!! ECU diag comes back with 55 so all clear as far as the dett/knock sensor goes.. doubt its a boost leak otherwise I would never get the full 9psi... Im certain im not missing a cylinder as the engine still seems to run very smoothly and I would expect the Cat temperature warning light to come on because of unburned fuel in the exhaust... any other ideas as to what it could be? cheers dave

brake options
My brakes are rubbish, and I mean really bad. Spoke to baggins and possibly one or more of the pistons are siezed open.. I have grooved and drilled disks and decent pads on there already (black diamond) and braided brake hoses (on the front anyway, I just couldnt get the stock hoses off the back!!) Other than taking the calipers off and giving them a full service to sort them out are there any other upgrade options for brakes that will fit under stock wheels? bigger/better calipers etc.... I'd rather not have to buy a set of 17's or bigger just for a brake upgrade... (although it would be nice to have them!!) thanks. dave edit... forgot to mention already running 5.1 brake fluid...

FAO:Young members with imported TT 300s
I had a mate who did this, never told them about previous accidents, he had an accident and had to make a claim on the policy and didnt have any problems either. was recently too even with all the "we share information with other insurers" bull.. so in theory its fine, however if you get caught out you're guilty of fraud I believe so expect at the least your policy to be cancelled, and then they probably will tell all the other insurers about you. at worst you'll be nicked and charged and have to do some community service!
