  1. dont think there is any problem mixing 8 and 16 bit ecus i slammed a old main ecu in my series 4 with no problems with any of the other ecus
  2. behind the centre vents is a box with flaps, on the series 4 there is a motor on the driver side of the box somewhere above the aircon ecu. it moves all 3 flaps by various amounts depending on what you select on the pods. it's a pig to get to. i bought a replacement for this from a earlier car and it was different (both in physical shape and number of electrical connections. the series 4 motor seemed to know where it was and feed this back to the ecu, whereas the series 2 seemed to just be told to move a bit. maybe i was sold the wrong part, who knows
  3. by door motors i meant the motors that move the flaps ("doors") that decide which ducting to send the air down
  4. having fixed my manual aircon door motors and bought the wrong bits i can confirm very little is compatable the entire way it works is different the manual control tells one motor where to move to dependant on where you move the lever to and senses if it has the auto control monitors lots of air temps and tells 3 motors to move ,but doesnt check they have physically moved, but instead checks if the temperature has changed so you need at least: new pod new ecu new air ducting with sensors fitted wiring loom for sensors new door motors and posssibly new airbox heater matrix (this bit is only a gues

in a auto to manual conversion generally...... there will be some spare connectors under the bonnet by the right wing near the power steering pot a new pipe is generally run from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder direct. a factory manual will have a pipe from the master cylinder to a junction with a spur going to a bleed point again on the wing by the power steering pot if its a turbo its unlikely that all the clutch vac asist lines and tanks were fitted in a conversion, the factory manual will have a vac line off the balance bar to a non return valve to a round tank in the back right of the engine bay and a funny shape tank in the wing then on to the servo. a conversion will often just have a t piece off the brake vacuum line auto gear box rad pipes going into thge main rad not connected to anything a beeping sound when in reverse and not breaking or accelerating power light flashes on dash on starting car and the ecu (under carpet in passenger footwell) will prob still be an auto under the centre column near the gearstick there will be 2 or 3 spare connectors
  6. well i knew about 5 of them, think i'll stick to pop videos
  7. ah yes then yes jap and uk speed sensors give the same signal (except NA ones) and the clock decides what to do with the signal what i meant was the 300zx only came with 180kph (jap) or 180mph(uk) clocks. the 120mph is usually a replacement face plate in a jap 180kph clock so if you take out a 120mph clock and replace it with a uk clock or a jap clock that has had the resistor mod done it will read fine
  8. surely the answer is yes, but they will read the wrong speed ie 120mph when your doing 180mph isnt the point of 120mph clocks that they are a direct replacement for 180kmph of course if its an import with 180kmph clocks, a speed converter and a mph sticker , then removing the speed converter and swapping the clocks will work fine although your mileometer will become a kmometer
  9. driver footwell fuse box top row 3rd fuse 10 amp. it powers the rotary lights on switch the switch then powers the fog switch, the side lights, the relay to change between dippen and full headlights, the interior lights , the dash lights, the rear lights, the number plate lights the same switch (independant to that 10a feed) also switches on the 2 relays that turn on the headlights so that the flash stalk can select which ones you want. the flash stalk uses different wiring for "flash main beam" and "have main beam on" so flashing would be unafected
  10. yes and yes if you can solder, though for the price of a second hand one its possibly not worth trying. the biggest problem is usually having to have the window down to get to a screw to get the door card off to fix it to open the window.....
  11. the write up i read of someone who had done it suggested that the loom to the cruise ecu, pedals and controls was there and that all that was missing was the loom to the actuator under the bonnet, and that was just 4 wires that they spliced in near the footwell fuse box. i think it was a us zed so whether that is true for all zeds i have no idea
  12. yes, there is a write up somewhere, saw a link to it posted in the last few months its quite a lot of work though fit actuator and cable under bonnet fit switches to clutch and brake pedal (possibly including welding extra plate to push switches) or replace clutch and brake pedals run wiring loom from near fuse box to actuator under bonnet and splice in fit ecu in passenger footwell, (possibly run wiring loom) fit cruise cotrol steering wheel or cruise control stalk (rocking horse poo or £few hundred new)
