  1. Melatonin works by adjusting your sleep clock (so they say). A lot of pilots and flight attendands use it as it's useful for jet lag however it is banned by some airlines due to some side effects. The old wives tale about eating cheese before bed maybe stems from the fact that it contains l-tyrosine which has mood elevating properties and can lead to 'nightmares' or at least an active mind. On the other hand tryptophan (still found in cheese but bear with me lol) a precursor to seratonin can help to aid sleep. Milk has fairly high levels but just because a food contains a certain substance doesn't mean the body can assimilate it for a specific purpose. As a supplement it was banned for quite a while but it's quite safe actually. So supplementing with tryptophan or 5HTP will help along with high carbohydrates before bed (hot chocolate made with milk anyone) . Either way while you're not sleeping you really need to just relax and don't allow it to depress you further or wind you up. Yes it's difficult but the way I see it at least you 'are' relaxing and you will find you're less tired during the day then. It's a complex situation and unfortunately the more you worry about it the worse it gets.
  2. I agree. Slicktops definitely do rule :cool2: I will probably do the July 15th track day again at silverstone and same track which if anyone's interested is a fairly easy track to learn and not too tough on the car. As well unlike Goldtrack days which have a lot of exotic and race orientated cars the silverstone own ones were a great mix from GT3 RS to Ford Ka :) and with a total of seven hours possible track time a bit of a bargain I think. The other point to note is that there were only two red flags during the day which were one crash and one the weather. The more race orientated sessions tend to have a lot more red flags due to drivers pushing a lot harder. As the car performed well we'll be upping the boost a bit so should be seeing another 50 - 100 rwhp. Also as the clutch was starting to slip will be looking at changing that to a HKS triple plate. So hoping for a dry day next time and will be wearing some T888 which should be fun :)
  3. Power is 584 rwhp but that's with NOS and I think was 511 rwhp without. Didn't use the NOS as was running road tyres which last time I ran pilot sport at the track the tread was ripped from the carcass. The Silverstone Wing is fantastic and the facilities now match the track itself. I was really pleased with the car and it handled fantastically well. It was a good day and it was good to see a zed keeping up with the porches and what was surprising was in the bends it was as good and better than the anything out there. Who was it said the zed wasn't good in the wet lol
  4. This is a little clip of the second wet session with Pete as my passenger helping me with the lines :)
  5. We went to Silverstone on Saturday and had a great day. Pete came and helped me tinker with the car as needed and he even had a session as passenger in the afternoon :) The car ran really well with just a couple of teething problems which were sorted on the day. I was running with standard road tyres and didn't bother putting the toyo 888 on as I wasn't looking to push at 100% this time around and anyway they are pretty crap in the wet lol. Here's a link to my very first session of the day and I will upload a couple of wet laps a bit later :)
  6. Well it's handling 580 plus rwhp on mine so yours is gonna be a monster :)
  7. I haven't booked any track time so far and possibly won't until after silverstone :)
  8. I am going to Japfest2 and 'hopefully' entering the car into the power and style awards with a bit of luck. http://www.japfest2.co.uk/2010/01/01/bob-dixon-nissan-300zx-slicktop/ That's if I don't bin it at Silverstone that is :) If the car performs well at Silverstone (and that's a BIG if) I might be trying time attack as AME has offered to sponsor the car and since I've already done all my money I defo couldn't afford it on my own. So if I don't see you at Silverstone on the 18th June maybe will meet a few other zeds at Donny :)
  9. I think its a crap looking car too not surprised they only sold a 1000 odd. Given both cars were about the same money I would have bought the zed all day long even had I known what the re-sale would be :) I've never bought into the Alpha Romeo thing totally but they do make some beautiful cars IMO.
  10. Ya don't want concrete or tarmac really - unless it's permeable - for lot's of reasons which you can google rather than me write lot's on here. Here's a link which will help you decide what to do and is also a fantastic aid when you're doing it :) http://www.pavingexpert.com/blocks2.htm I've nearly finished my permeable brick drive and here's a couple of pix. Water never pools and done correctly will simply soak through the substrate. Also a pic of two strips which 'are' on concrete but that's because there's no risk of pooling.
  11. Well I've booked my place for the June event. Anyone else fancy taking the GT3's on?? Actually it's difficult enough beating a Clio on track but I do like to set my sights high lol.
  12. Actually if you drive it off a cliff you will reach about 120 mph no matter how high it is due to terminal velocity :)
  13. It depends on the tyre. If you look at the Toyo R888 for example you'll find that there is minimal depth tread. If you have a full tread tyre you can risk ripping the carcass from it (and yes I have experienced that). I've been told that there is a machine that 'buffs' tyres to prevent this happening. That being the case, you'd be OK with a set of part worn tyres with maybe around 5 mm tread as long as they're still serviceable anyway :)
  14. I don't know a lot about the R35 but I do know that I saw one kick a Veyron's arse twice in a straight line. Yes you can 'fettle' but it just costs a LOT of money :)
  15. Well I wouldn't mind having a 350 or 370 look OK to me and to be fair I think they run nice too. There's a guy at AME with a 420z pushing out 700 rwhp and I bet he could give all 32's a run for their money.
  16. I'll be up for that so count me in. Be nice to get a few zeds together on track :)
  17. I have a Findanza Ali flywheel. Best place to buy is whoever gives you the best deal TBH. I buy alot of my stuff from the states as it works out cheaper usually.
  18. I can tell you what I'm using if it's any help :) I've got a RPS MAX street clutch and it's been perfect for me so far anyway and as easy to use as a normal everyday clutch.
  19. Yes it's true I have spent a lot of money on my engine but that isn't the point. Some of the comments about NOS are simply untrue and I think it's better to get the facts. Best place for facts are those who have done it not those who knows someone who knows someone whose done it :) Go to wizards of NOS website and get some facts. Then talk to Dan (see below) and he will give an informed opinion. And I imagine he's blown a few engines up getting that opinion but so far not mine lol. Dan Turner at Advanced Motorsport & Engineering.
  20. Many incorrect comments here. Using a progressive controller means that it isn't instant boost but come in 'progressively' :) Hard pipes like Pete's does require a minimum (I think) of 150 shot. I have got NOS and have been using it regularly haven't blown engine yet. Admittedly I do have strong engine internals however, mine is controlled by the AEM ECU and doesn't kick in until at least 80 mph and only works in third fourth and fifth gear 'and' is progressive. I am only running 1 bar of boost currently as there are a myriad of problems that can arise from that too. Done correctly NOS is an equally valid performance enhancement as turbos or increasing boost IMO. Look at Wizards of NOS for your answers.
  21. My slicktop weighs in at 1370 kg and that's not dry. It's also not as a result of making a huge effort to remove weight either. But my seats and wheels alone must save 50 or 60 kg. It is bloody noisy though lol.
  22. Here's a few pix from Silverstone :)
  23. I bought it on here from a member but never put it on and it won't suit my car now so if I can make sure all the bits are still there it'll be up for sale. Don't think anyone else has got one actually :) And Sean, it may well be OCD but main thing is it's your OCD and nobody elses lol
  24. It's a pretty stupid rule and the boy was making an intelligent and considered stand against it. I applaud him and I think he's got some pretty big 'cojones' wearing that skirt and I'm sure it (the skirt) helped to keep em cool too :)
  25. Lovely looking car that and looks like you're doing some tasteful changes too. How about an Abflug gated gearchange :)
