slicktop project
Engine is in and exhaust is fitted. The car should be running end of this week and will spend a couple of weeks fettling and going on the RR to set up though this should be fairly straight forward. I am keeping the 200 mark as a goal. I got close with my ZX10R in 2005. Best part about going that quick on a bike is that it goes quiet somewhere around the 190 mark. Worse part is thinking about how much bigger the tyres have become through centrifugal force and how tight the chain must be lol.

slicktop project
I'm not a mechanic so would never contemplate doing any serious work on the car. I have chosen experts who will provide the quality I'm looking for and am satisfied that I will end up with a car to be proud of. I'm not totally useless though lol. I'm building two new garages for the zeds. Already done floor, walls, and prepared the roof. Also prepared most of the paved area. Going to lay EPDM to the roof this weekend weather permitting and starting the permeable paving in the next couple of weeks. Will be painting the car Pearl White solid and the rear will be painted same as the Twinz's car. Again, looking to keep to the basic 300zx lines just a bit of tweaking to make it look more modern. The 200 mph is still a goal. However, to make that more difficult it isn't the primary goal for the car. My parameters have always been a compromise between track and road. I have asked Dan to give me a car that can drive to the Nurburgring, do a fast few laps, and drive back again. Maybe do a quick quarter mile on the way :) That was the goal with the red car and we achieved that. Once the car is finished we will trial it performance wise and see what the next step is to achieve the 200. Probably going to mean a 6 speed gearbox. And probably from the 350. Dan has built a few quick 350's one of them in Banzai magazine recently. The gearbox is handling over 600 horses without modification and that's good enough for me. Then all I gotta worry about is whether Pete and Gary stuck all the bits on strong enough lol. I'm hoping that Pete will finish the car by Christmas but it's not essential.

I'm liking my exhaust :)

Who has the most powerful ZX in the UK?
When I decided that the red project had limited scope for improvement then it finished as a project lol. Not much really. A lot of oil surge causing smoke and serious brake fade even with the brembos and track brake pads. Otherwise it went very well indeed and didn't disgrace itself against some very special cars. As far as my slicktop is concerned it's a few weeks away from the bodyshop. From there to Pete to get finished and that will be the finished project with the only likely change being a 6 speed gearbox or whatever is required to achieve my ultimate goal :) It's probably going on the dyno next week actually so be interesting to see what the power is with and without the NOS. More importantly, similar power to the red one and probably over 300 kgs lighter :)

Who has the most powerful ZX in the UK?
Hi Jorgen, it went pretty well but uncovered some bits that needed looking at. Now put the engine in a slicktop so am looking forward to finishing the project and trying it out again :)

perfect zed
A pearl white slicktop with twinz rear bumper 99 spec front. Tein coilovers with a bit of rose jointing and some decent brakes. Simple black interior with leather recaros. A nice set of Volk CE28N wheels with some juicy tyres nothing too fancy. Something over 500 rwhp would be nice too. Oh........

Cold running spark plugs...
using colder plugs will be great when you're thrashing it around the track. Problem is when you're driving normally (which is what most of us do most of the time) it will foul up the plugs

new wheel sizes
lol well the vert is not an ideal car during the winter months but I've driven one or the other every weekend for the past six months and never seen a soul in another zed. I'll still use it but my 4x4 is a rather better tool for the cold and the rain :) The red one is gone now but another month should see the slicktop alive and kicking.

new wheel sizes
I think they are 8" though aren't they? I am confident with the rears needing just a bit of work just concerned about fronts interfering with the liner. I'm enjoying the vert loads actually gone out in it most weekends over the summer but won't be doing too much from now :(

new wheel sizes
I have my eye on a set of wheels which are not the norm. I've had a chat with Pete and James (Jaffa) and we feel it will be OK but I would be happier if anyone has any experience with these sizes. I am considering going with 18 x 9J +25 offset on the front and 18 x 10J +35 offset on the rear. I expect to do some arch rolling but don't really want to do any cutting of liners etc. As well, I expect the 9" to turn in a bit quicker which is great on a LWB but not quite sure if that's a positive thing on a SWB. Best tyre sizes to suit would help too :)

A subjective view on moderation
Well personally I quite like this forum. I recall that everytime I logged on funkysi and others were slagging someone off for having ideas which didn't quite suit their own. He had a lot to offer this forum, there's no doubt about that, but I imagine we've lost a lot of good guys who didn't want to suffer such self opinionated crap. I know that I'm not perfect by a long way but when I post I'm simply adding to the mix. The last thing I need is some tw@t lecturing me. Bullying doesn't just take place at school and I've seen it on here on more than one occasion. I think the mods do a pretty good job and while I agree that sometimes it might appear self serving it would wouldn't it :)

Twinzdesign Peru rear in black
Really? Well I have just imported one and I know precisely what I paid for it :) Use a currency convertor don't guess. The bumper comes out at less than £500.

Twinzdesign Peru rear in black
It costs under £500 add import costs and duty about another £100. So that'll be about £600 then. Seems a lot of money but....if you buy your 99 spec front bumper from the states too your savings against buying in the UK will offset quite substantially :)

Best original Z32 TT?
I'm not going to disagree about Phil's car or in fact Jan's 98. Here's my vert which is totally original except for the wheels. It's taxed and MOT'd and get's used regularly. In fact we just spent two day's in the Cotwolds pottering around in it :) There are probably better show cars but I doubt there's much better that get's used regularly. These are oldish pix and I've got more recent one's somewhere but it's a lovely car.

Accusump - best place to connect?
Better still, Slick Pete has got my SpecialtyZ baffled sump and would probably make some good copies if you ask him nicely :)

Drove the red car for the last time on saturday as took it to silverstone to start engine removal etc. That was a great car but am confident that this will surpass it by a long way :)

slicktop project
My intention is to put a 99 spec bumper twinz rear bumper and kaminari sides. Will be remaining white but currently haven't decided quite which one. Gonna roll the arches a bit to allow my new wheels to fit and keeping it pretty low.

Hey Pete got those goodies from Z1. Unbelieveable paid for them Monday and one package arrived yesterday  the other one I missed today so gonna pick it up tomorrow. That's with Fedex I am really impressed with them. Dropping car off at Dans on the 31st this month to get engine out etc. Will call you over the weekend mate :)

Without trying to be pedantic you're probably misunderstanding my meaning a little :) I did say 'anything over 175 started to feel pretty hairy'. By that I mean still accelerating with foot down and 'starting' to feel hairy. And I do mean unstable but honestly it takes a lot of setting up to make a car stable under those conditions. Could buy a GTR I suppose and seriously considered it but this seems like a lot more fun :) The red car was absolutely fine but when pushed very hard it's limitations were apparent. Suspension wise around the track was actually bloody good and I was pleasantly surprised but could do better on the open road to which end have sorted some goodies from Z1 motorsports to be fitted. Had oil surge which caused some issues under hard cornering but have now got a baffled sump ready to be fitted along with relocated PVC's and a couple of other minor mods should deal with that problem. Other little niggles many of which will be reduced with the lighter weight of the slicktop. I will be letting the red one go as a rolling shell as will be taking most of the goodies out into the new one.

slicktop project
I used the term 'hairy' actually but unstable isn't far out lol. It's not really the weight which is the problem rather the set-up to be honest.

Sure we can come to a suitable arrangement for you Nick - probably some kind of barter system perhaps :)

Is this from the 350Z? I would definitely be interested in this as it sounds a perfect solution. As long as it's suitable for normal driving too then it could be the best of all worlds :) Have considered using NA diff but have to consider that it's quite a lot of power and with a shorter wheelbase might start to be difficult to handle. Different scenario but I added two gogs to the rear sprocket on my ZX10R and made it difficult to keep stable. Good fun though :)
