trackday at silverstone
I've booked myself on a trackday at Silverstone on the 7th June with Goldtrack. It's the Arena circuit which is over three and a half miles long and I reckon perfect for the zed. I've done Silverstone half a dozen times on my ZX10R and it's bloody quick. My car has proved itself to be reliable on the road and now I want to see how it goes on a track and I reckon it's gonna be OK. I'm gonna do Santa Pod this year too then it will be goodbye to the red zed as buying a GTR (gonna keep my white vert though). I was hoping Jorgen would come over with a few of his friends also in zeds and also in the 600bhp class but haven't heard from him which is a shame. It would be cool to compare my car with a few other of the more powerful cars on the forum. That's of course if you fancy taking them out of the garage lol :devil2: I'll keep you updated and will see what sort of lap times I can muster up :)

Who has the most powerful ZX in the UK?
I have booked myself on a trackday at Silverstone for the 7th June. It's a Monday and it's the Arena Circuit which is perfect for our cars with longish straights and long sweeping bends. So, if like me you want to prove your car rather than just talk about horsepower on the forum here's your chance

I'm not having much luck with weekends at Silverstone. I like the idea of the June 7th which is a Monday and is the new Arena circuit so we'll get to run the same as the GP boys. Anyway, I'm thinking that I'll be doing this one and it would be cool if a few more guys can join me. I would also check with Dan to see if he would do a rolling road on the day too :) let me know guys

There were no dates there at weekends so I will contact Silverstone direct to find out who does them. I have quite a few bikes days there so should be OK.

I've never seen a trackday that cheap and I've done loads on bikes. I'm simply quoting goldtrack who have a very good reputation. And anyway, I think I get about 10 mpg from the red one, and I drive two zeds do you really think I particularly care about economy :) does anyone who drives a zed??

This is what I got from Goldtrack. I'd be up for a day open pitlane as we get more time. I would speak with one of the forum guys who normally organise these things but I think we could have a great time. Would not be only zeds but if we had a few 600 bhp plus cars would be interesting :) June 7 Mon Silverstone Arena GP 105dB Open pitlane £399 June 7 Mon Silverstone Arena GP eve 98dB Open pitlane £149 June 24 Thurs Brands GP 101dB 2 groups £429 June 28 Mon Spa 107dB Open pitlane £349 June 29 Tues Spa 107dB Open pitlane £349 July 19 Mon Silverstone Historic Bridge GP 105dB 2 groups £329 July 19 Mon Silverstone Historic Bridge GP eve 98dB Open pitlane £149 July 28 Weds Goodwood 98dB Open pitlane £329 If the chaps think they can make 98dB then an evening is the most cost effective way of doing it. If they think they’ll need 105db then a daytime event is better and I’d suggest the Arena GP one on June 7th. Costings, assuming 10 or more booking would be:- Evenings £129 each Days June 7th £379 each July 19th £299 each Rather than have you having to coordinate people I can do a booking code for the chaps to use that’ll enable them to make their own bookings at the discounted price.

I'm waiting to see what they can do and will know at the weekend. Probably looking at 105db though 98db would give more options :) Don't think weekends are possible so will most likey be an evening. i have asked for some ideas for June and July see what they've got.

well you lot keep raising your boost to get more power but I hope you got a resident mechanic to keep it running lol. Personally I struggle to do a lot and hence why I need the longer service intervals. Hub dyno or whatever, in fact all we have to do is record bhp at the fly and this will even it out. My 504 is rwhp but next time I go to get motor tuned will most likely be done on a new hub dyno :) Regarding silverstone I have had a chat with Goldtrack who can do something. Need to know if we might have issues with noise so does anone know likely db for their modified zed to give me a feel for it?

Hub dynos just give bigger numbers. They're certainly not less accurate and in fact Dan Turner will have one in his workshops within the next two months as he believe's they provide more accurate readings with which to tune the car. If we can arrange a trackday of some kind at Silverstone June/July we could also do a dyno shootout on Dan's dyno which is about two miles from the track :)

Sounds good. I think Silverstone would be the best track for our cars as it's pretty fast without too many tight bends and is nice and flowing. Donington wouldn't be bad either but Silverstone is just about the only track where I haven't fell off my bike so it's OK by me lol. I might enquire if we could hire the track just for a zed fest :)

Actually I know from experience that throwing money at a car is only part of the equation. The criteria that I set for this car were that it would be good for around 3000 miles without the need for service. That I could drive to Scotland and back without worrying about it and that during the trip could take in a track day or a run at the strip if I so chose. I absolutely love driving this car fast on the road but worrying over reliability would reduce that enjoyment tenfold. I'm looking forward to actually making it to some meets this year and getting to know some of the guys and their cars.

No. It's unlikely that I'll spend any more on the car. I will be keeping the convertible and next year will be getting a GTR and see what can be done with that. I almost took the plunge last year but decided to enjoy the zed for at least one more year and I'm glad I did :)

All I know is my car is still top of the board and I haven't even bothered to measure it with the NOS running yet :devil2: All joking aside there are some cracking cars being talked about here but are they just about the numbers? I could easily get bigger numbers by raising boost but lose the reliabilty. I've done a lot of miles since Dan built this engine and have had no problems apart from the odd pipe coming off under high boost :) I take both my cars out virtually every weekend and enjoy them. I would definitely be up for a meet with some of the big boys. What about a track day at Silverstone or something like that?? Better still what about joining me one sunday to do some stalking lol.

Single or Dual exhaust ?
Hmm well I've got a single and a dual so can comment. Single definitely not restrictive as proven by my very own red one. And I get a LOT of positive comments about the sound too. Dual looks best though absolutely no doubt about that and I prefer the standard quad look by far :)

Meet my cars
You've got a couple of nice motors there mate. I personally love the zed as standard and that's why I enjoy driving my vert. But then again I enjoy driving fast and that's why I love my red one :) Keep em both! I drive mine at least once a week just for fun and to my mind that's what owning a zed is all about. If you really want a modified zed and actually want to drive it then you must be prepared to spend a LOT of money.

Meet at Hen & Chicken Pub 28 March
Sorry guys I was working this morning so took the vert with me, was on my way when got called back for something. i actually did get there in my red one at about three but no zeds to be seen so just drove by and went stalking :)

Anyone ever ratted a Z?
I kinda get what's being said but I don't get why it should be a piece of crap to start. You gotta decide what you want out of a car IMO. As a sheeter (roofing) back in the day I used to drive a Corsair 2000E hand painted orange and dented every panel. It was a doddle to get through London rush hour! I also had a Bedford CF which i bought 6 months old and had a modified Rover V8 lump shoed in by a guy whose day job was stretching and converting luxury cars. The 'only' exterior change i made were the wheels and I can honestly say it was faster than most cars on the road at the time and the traffic light grand prix was hilarious. As for the zed I'm not sure it lends itself to any of this IMO. If I was to start again with the zed it would be a monster power and handling wise but kept bog standard bodywork. Preferably without any rust lol. I do like the beemer though!

Nitrous Kit on a Z
You're not going fast enough my friend :devil2:

Nitrous Kit on a Z
Mine is fitted in the boot to the rear bracing. No-one see's it but who cares :) I've got an entire high end audio system which was going in the car but there's no point whatsoever as the car is so fkin loud I don't play music in it. Going to fit the ICE to my vert now. If you remove rear seats you will find another few decibels of noise assaulting your ears. This is fine if you're using it for track but in the real world not so good.

All I know is I've got it, I love it and use it every time I go out. And I ain't blown my engine up yet!

Meet at Hen & Chicken Pub 28 March
I might be able to do that one :) Put my name down please.

Surrey rolling road / Virginia Water meet
I might be up for this but can only decide nearer the date. Be interesting to find out what power I'm running with the NOS switched on :)

I think he's better off to keep it on relatively low boost (I'm at 1.2 bar) and use NOS. With the NOS off I'm running over 500 rwhp but there is some lag. With the NOS on however there's hardly any lag whatsoever. As well, it cuts in at relatively high revs and therefore there isn't too much added stress to the engine. Under normal driving conditions this system works extremely well and it enables me to use a fairly standard plug and not risk a colder one which is certain to foul up when not pushing the engine.
