200mph
stella added a link to my original project which among other things was to achieve 200 mph in the zed. If my only aim was the 200 mph then it would have been achievable in theory anyway. My car definitely has the power but the two things which make it more difficult is the gearing and aerodynamics. I looked for another gearbox and considered a special build with a longer final drive ratio but cost was prohibitive. We then worked out that we could get 198 mph with what we had and if we was to use slightly bigger wheels then it 'was possible'. I then got interested in racing it at TOTB and time attack so changed my thoughts on it. At the end of this year I will consider what to do but I might give it another shot if I've got the funds. I have a contact who can get us track time at Bruntingthorpe so if you're gonna have a go let me know and we can sort it :) By the way about 4 cars hit over 190 mph at TOTB but did so in about half a mile so I think they would have easily done the 200 given a slightly longer run :)

HKS triple plate clutch
One good thing is its hard to steal lol. Not very street and took awhile to get used to it. Like a switch with limited slippage. I quite like it now but it's an squired taste. If you google it the general feedback isn't good for street use :-). Bought in uk

Yes :)

680bhp veilside wideboy!
That's a wicked engine and will easily see 800 plus with the solid lifters :) I'm just having mine rebuilt ready for time attack this year. Will be finished in a couple of weeks and I will be testing at silversone late in Feb. Mine was 750 bhp at the fly and will possibly be a little more after this build. Martin's got a great car and definitely has the potential to be in excess of 800 bhp too if he get's it finished. I might give him a call as that will be three pretty serious cars on the south coast all within 50 miles of each other :) Hope you are gonna track it as that engine deserves to be shown off properly!!!

HP results???
yes and a lot slower lol

silverstone grand prix circuit track day
Silverstone GP is not a cheap day but there are others which are more reasonable particularly for a first go. Castle Coombe is great but has low noise levels so the car needs to be pretty standard. You could seriously just drive a standard car round the track you just have to prepare it well and drive it appropriate to your skills and more importantly to the cars limits and your budget. Maybe try Japfest or one of the many shows who sell 20 minute sessions which will not break your car and will give you a nice taster for it :)

HP results???
Mine's 750 at the fly. I did over 3000 miles on that engine before it needed rebuild. That includes fast road, half a dozen sessions at santa pod, competed at TOTB, and about half a dozen track/testing sessions at silverstone. There are a few other guys who race their zeds including hillclimb, sprint, and drag. They just don't tend to spend their life on the forum - they'd rather be driving their cars :)

silverstone grand prix circuit track day
I'll be doing track day as the title suggests on 26th February. Hope the weather will be OK but a bit of rain makes it more exciting sometimes lol. Once again it would be good to see another zed on track :)

I think you'll find my car has rather more. And I don't have problems with traction. Be nice to see some more zeds at TOTB (or Fiats come to that lol). 28th 29th July which is surely enough notice for all the guys who say they needed more :)

Not difficult as the spline is over 100 mm and the joint just slides across. In fact probably easier than the two piece :)

Carbon it is :)

Actually I wanted a set of wheels so if you were to resurrect your for sale thread we could maybe do a deal there if you like :)

I'll be using the carbon when balanced but will likely keep the ali one as a spare at least for this year :)
-

The ali prop is 22 llbs (so Z1 say) and the carbon one is a little less but I am getting the carbon rebalanced so chances are it will weigh the same when done :)

I've got both an ACPT carbon prop and a Z1 platinum lightweight prop. There's a couple of gram difference in the weight only so not much gain there. The real benefit is if the prop breaks the carbon one shatters and the steel one pokes you up the @rse lol

Z1 Store
Sorry your point was saving on postage and duty which will not be the case. Z1 will get a quote for the package and it's based on the weight of it. Duty is based on value so you might as well just get your own. As a matter of interest if you buy secondhand from Z1 it will not attract import duty :)

Z1 Store
Z1 will put many parts in one package. My last shipment from them the box was 2 metres long by 80 cm x 80 cm and weighed about 100 kg. You can save your order in their cart until you have everything you need and then they will quote shipping. I've done a few with them and my last was total of $3000 plus $600 shipping which is not cheap and then on top of that there is duty to pay. Still cheaper than buying in the UK though lol. I was quoted £2500 for a new gearbox and got one from the states (not Z1) for £1700 inc shipping :)

High powered Zeds and traction?
Weight loss is a benefit and will not cause problems in handling either on the track or for every day driving. Your tyres are also plenty wide enough too and while T888s are great in the dry they are rubbish in any damp or cold conditions.

High powered Zeds and traction?
Well if you've got a carbon tailgate and don't wanna put it on I'll have it off of you lol. Of course reduce weight as much as you can. Less weight you have it's much easier to set the car up and the faster you go - simple really :) Looking at your spec you should have excellent traction in the dry if set up right. Best place to test and adjust is the track. Why not join me at silverstone on 26th Feb I'll be testing my car there :)

What's a UK manual 300ZX Twin turbo worth??
lol I wasn't having a go no worries. It's just that the thread turned into advice on how to go about getting car sprayed cheaply rather then what it was worth and the chances are Daz already knows how to do that - sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong :) Most of us on here spend an awful lot more on our cars than they'll ever be worth - I'm probably the biggest culprit - and I think Daz might turn out to be one of the exceptions. I had a UK spec unmodified zed for about 4 years and sold it for the same money I had paid pretty much. It's gotta be worth respray 'if' he's gonna keep it but if he's gonna sell I would just tidy it up and still probably make the same sorta dough.

What's a UK manual 300ZX Twin turbo worth??
To be fair i think Daz knows his way around the business and will likely get as good a paint deal as anyone. He is doing the math (sensible chap) and I still reckon a really nice low mileage unmolested UK car will see nearer £6K than £5K if put on a forecourt and would sell easily.

The tight tw@t only paid about £50 for it lol
