What's a UK manual 300ZX Twin turbo worth??
hey Daz how's it going mate? I sold my standard UK spec a few years ago for over £5K. If it's mint low mileage gotta be worth over £6K IMO but best on a forecourt. Then again why not just drive a nice mint looking 300zx which will look like you're driving £20K worth lol

Rear big brake conversion advice
I have a stoptech big brake kit for the track. I haven't bothered as yet with the rear but it's a possible addition if I really need it. Brake balance is essential as I know from experience where my rears were locking up under hard braking (track) and it was partly down to master cylinder I believe. Anyway, even with the stoptech we had to go for bigger pistons than standard to provide more stopping to the front. Have a look at this link for info http://www.zeckhausen.com/Testing_Brakes.htm

Track day!!!
The 87.5 db is drive-by but the static is 101 db and that's the one which most circuits are judged on and which is plenty usually. Mine is 103 db static and it's loud :) Bedford certainly is one of the safest as it's got lot's of run off. I don't particularly agree with the start slowly and build up. Start fast and get faster is better advice! You've never done track before so what you perceive to be fast on the road is pretty slow on the track. The tarmac tends to give better grip than the road, there's less risk of oil or other slippery fluids, and you're all going in the same direction. The beauty of occasional track days is that they will give you a better idea of what your car is really capable of so it's worth pushing just a little bit harder to find those limits. That knowledge may well stand you in good stead one day in the future. Lower tyre pressures are essential but you be better off asking advice on the day as it will probably be cold. Long right hand bends are killers of our engine on track so be cautious there. Otherwise just go out and have fun :) Good luck and enjoy!

BC Coilovers or Tein SS?
I'm using Tein super street and they are absolutely fine. I've managed about 3500 miles including a dozen runs at the track including totb and a few runs at the strip. Everyone is slagging them off but my car handles extremely well in all conditions. I'll be racing in time attack next year and unless someone is gonna give me a set of monoflex I'll continue to run with the superstreet and I know they'll be competitive. It's not just about an individual component it's about how you match the whole set-up to make it work. I'm not suggesting that they're better than the BC coilovers because I don't have any experience of them but I can assure you that the tein are pretty good.

Awful MotoGP death
The last person to die in motogp was Daiijiro Kato in 2003 actually. I love bikes and I love motorbike racers. Here's a pic showing what Marco could do on a bike :) http://www.visordown.com/discount-racing-encyclopedia/motogp-testing---style-check/16987-6.html RIP

It's still running nice as ever. Just put BBS wheels on and series 2 PTU but having to sell as no room in garages now sadly. Someone is gonna get a damn fine investment :)

New to the site so hello.
Hey Daz I'm at cadwell park on the 22nd so leave your zed at home and bring scoobie for some track action and I'll drive to midlands with ya :)
-
Cadwell Park
I've done it on bike a few times wet and dry it's a great track but this the first time in the car so should be fun.
-
whens the next track day ?
Booked directly with Silverstone who actually run a fairly good day. Food and drinks provided in the price all day it's a decent event. http://www.silverstone.co.uk/track/track-club/

Cadwell Park
I am going to Cadwell Park Saturday 22nd to do a track day. It's a great track for motorbikes but might be a little bit tight for the zed. Still what the hell eh be good to put the car through it's paces again :) So if any of you northern boys (or girls) are up for it be good to see you there.
-
whens the next track day ?
Only problem with this day is it's 98db which is pretty low. I'll be at the amazing Cadwell Park on 22nd October 105db already booked and Silverstone on 17th December :)

new arrival and suprises at the dyno
That's a great idea. AME at Silverstone on their dyno then off to the track. I'll be doing Tuesday 29th November (international circuit) and then Saturday 17th December (GP Circuit) and of course with a bit of luck will be a bit damp to make it even more interesting :)

is there any point in me subscribing ?
Paul, it's obvious that having been a member for many years you know precisely what benefits subscribing will bring so your question is (seemingly) one which you wish to provoke discussion. I've subscribed on and off (mostly on) for about 6 years. Yes, this forum has a particularly strong moderation but I personally haven't found this to be onerous. Right now I am a registered member. Having been a member for quite some time I can safely say that when the time come's I won't feel the need to ask other members' opinions about whether I should or should not re-join. PS. I never got my window stickers or membership pack ever either lol. But then again that wasn't why I joined in the first place :)

How much does your zed owe you??
I remember about 8 years ago I was on my way to buy an M3 about 6 months old and costing a fortune. I saw a blue 300zx on the forecourt and thought I'd have a little look. It was a Uk spec 1995 at £6500 which I bought and all in all I think it was a better car than the M3 and i managed 3 years out of that and sold it for a tidy sum. I guess I saved myself about £30K but have spent that and more on my current slicktop. Having said that, I was thinking about buying a GTR 35 so all in all I haven't done too bad and rather than sell and lose a few quid I'll keep it and I'll have a perfect track car :) My navara cost £28K four years ago and is worth probably around £8K now so it's not so different. If you want to do it right just buy a nice unmolested one like my vert and see it appreciate in value over the next 10 years or so lol.

santa pod times
I did actually put it on youtube here but TBH I guess it looks a bit boring really :)
-
santa pod times
I had a few runs at santa pod again this weekend and have now had my fill of the quarter mile at least until TOTB next year anyway :) I managed a best 12.25 quarter and my best terminal speed was 129.84 which bodes well for the topspeed run at TOTB. I think not too bad for a road legal car which is set up for handling rather than the strip. Will probably be going to silverstone for an open pitlane event in mid december if anyones up for it.

Is that Bobgenie's rear end in JP mag?
don't worry i will lol. Also gonna do time attack clubman next year (probably) don't fancy doing that as well do ya??
-
Is that Bobgenie's rear end in JP mag?
yes I'm pretty sure he did a 10 second 1.4 before he blew it up :) Is that right Daz? Bloody quick I know that!
-
Is that Bobgenie's rear end in JP mag?
That is a cracking motor Daz and doesn't look too bad either. I wish I'd asked you to look at mine quickly reckon you'd have figured spark plug gone easily enough.
-
Is that Bobgenie's rear end in JP mag?
Yes and no doubt I was moaning about losing boost lol. I can't use racelogic and NOS together on my motor but for my first runs on the strip I did and melted a plug. It didn't seem to affect the handling track so much and at first I put it down to my own inexperience but it was clear on the sunday something was wrong. Another learning experience but I really enjoyed TOTB it is a fantastic event and I'm already looking forward to next year.

Best way to send a tyre
probably parcel2go would be cheapest but easier to just go to the post office I think :)

Japshow Finale
I'm not going tomorrow Andy I'll be going up there 1st/2nd Oct weather permitting. I had considered going but have other committments :)
-
Japshow Finale
Hi Andy, yes got one fitted but haven't made full use of it as yet. Will be using it in anger next time round :)
-
Japshow Finale
I thought I was having light hearted fun lol. Seriously though, I'm only at the strip to improve my times so that I am more competitive at TOTB and I want to concentrate on getting better rather than 'competing'. I will almost certainly be competing in either time attack or hill climb next year depending on funds and that along with TOTB is my priority. The main point I was trying to make earlier is that there really will be quite a lot of zeds at santa pod this weekend and you could race to your hearts content :) There's a drag challenge run by Mr F and we have our own 1/4 mile leader board so there are lot's of challenges to be met if you really want it.
