Black plastic vinyl strip under spoiler
Yes they are expensive especially given the non brake light one is sooo much cheaper and has all of the moulding in there, pity the area where the light shows through is too dark to convert it. Jeff

Auto Gearbox problems
Are you saying you feel the tps issue is still there as your still getting the error code on the autobox? if so disconnect the battery for a couple of hours and then do a code check again, it maybe an old code and is a red herring. Jeff

The black strip we are talking about is the vinyl sticker not the perspex strip. Jeff

Ah, that is the correct setting my friend, so forget my link that is not your issue, sadly it looks to be a failed box. Jeff

Auto Gearbox problems
How did you reset the tps ? did you read the value at closed throttle? if so what the value? should be around 0.45v, if massively high you have a short circuit on the circuit, this will definitely fault the auto box as you mention. Checkout this link of mine from some time ago which explains about what goes wrong with the tps circuit and how to fix it. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?175920-Pesky-targa-drains-and-electrical-issues&highlight=tps+tech Jeff

Can anyone help me out with some info on changing ecu?
Fitting the mines ecu will be compatible with ConZult no issue, boost level cannot be changed though via the diagnostic, for all of its technology the boost level is controlled by a basic boost solenoid and actuator. The only control the ecu has is to limit the amount of boost when the engine is cold, or reduce boost if detonation is detected, this same set up can cause the engine to run in safety boost if the det sensor circuit is faulty. Fitting the ecu without raising the boost will not make a lot of difference, the major improvement is from running the extra boost and having the map to keep it safe whilst doing it, so the option is manual boost jets or an electronic boost controller. Before raising the boost a system check is essential, boost leak, timing, general condition, timing belt service level etc, this is to not only to get the very best out of the upgrade but to keep it all safe. Cheap oil at Halfords.
Well NemesizX some bold and somewhat controversial comments there, what I would say in response the thread been on this forum is all about the 300zx not any other new modern design engine but the z32 engine and in general many of which are over 20 years old and covered 100k miles. For that reason alone the engines need to be thoughtfully / sympathetically maintained to ensure they continue to stay in their best condition given the design, age and mileage. Your No1 point "not necessary to change the filter every time" on a Zed engine is at the least badly advised and I will state here loud and clear to all the zed owning viewers do NOT skip the filter change !! However at worse your view could be seen as been drawn from a lack of understanding of the filtration action inside of the filter and a reliability on the pressure relief valve to maintain the oil pressure if the filter medium becomes compromised, of course from that position ( pressure relief valve open ) the filter becomes unfiltered and you will not know. Comments that you have owned cars that have never had an oil change or done 150 k miles without one does of course lend credibility to your argument but I doubt very much a prospective buyer would see it that way, and of course remembering we are discussing the Zed engine here not others with different design. Modern filters have evolved I guess more in line with the use of modern low visc oils and extended service intervals to be competitive in the market place, but adding a modern filter to an old design engine does not change that engine, most owners will be using genuine Nissan filters and I can tell you they have not changed them one bit other than the colour, the after market filter such as the KN have been around for 25 years at least, jeez had one on my 2.8i Capri in the Eighties so don`t believe the hype that they are 2016 generation design because chances are they are not, I would suggest you have paid more for the KN filter than a standard one, so not a saving if you can change it twice using a standard one anyhow for the same or similar cost? The point of oil and filter maintenance is simple, why compromise on what is at the very heart of the engine, its life blood as such, not suggesting wrapping them up in cotton wool or put to bed with a hot water bottle ( some might actually ) but this is basic care and for little cost. When fitted to a modern engine. just because they have an application for the Nissan 300zx does not mean anything, the same part number fits a 1966 VW Beetle, 1984 Nissan Micra and more lowly cars, check out the application list here http://www.knfilters.com/search/applications.aspx?prod=HP-2008 So its your choice of course but just be careful with how you decide on your maintenance be sure you have all the right data for the what ever engine your dealing with. Just had a weird thing happen
As a quick fix, unplug the connectors and put some paper towel behind them and flush through the connections with WD40 and then wipe the excess off and plug back together, move the connector position away from the targa drain pipe, of course really you need to deal with it soon as. Jeff

Newbie saying hi and to ask a favour......
Had a lot of MOT advisories over the years not dealt with and corrossion bad enough to fail the MOT as far back as 2007, be wary. Check the link out https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/FreeCheck?regk=j626tef Jeff

Common issue, the targa drains have issues that allow water to get into both the drivers side and passenger side front foot well area, unfortunately the water runs over electrical connections and causes short circuits. Your problem will be on the passenger side see one of my tech link below, short term there is a fuse for the horn under the bonnet on the passenger side, in the black relay / fuse box, the horn is marked up at least will stop it sounding until you sort it out, oh and the short will often dry out and seem like the problem has gone away. zed world chip
Ok as we now know the full spec I can see you mention the injectors are 440cc, may as well stop right there as we never sold any chips created for 440cc injectors, given that it is likely set for standard one`s there is your over fuelling issue right there, however if the chip is set for 440cc injectors then it will not be a Zedworld one or has been modified by someone. When connected to a ConZult or similar diagnostic you can easily see what the injector size the map is for by clicking on the GLOBAL tab as in the image below, I would suggest this is the first thing that is checked because if this is wrong your wasting time and money. immobiliser
Ha, ha, yes if the original poster wants to pm me I can details a couple of no damage ways to get in and get around any immobiliser. Jeff

immobiliser
No dead locking and import cars vin will not get you key code, and anyway if it did on UK zeds they might not be the original locks anyhow, could be an expensive mistake. Zed locks and keys are late eighties design so certainly not high tech, quite costly to get a mobile locksmith, personally be easier to break in ( quite easy ) and change the locks from a breaker job done. Oh and any after market immobiliser will be clear to find under the ignition lock housing as the new cables stick out like sore thumbs from the 20 year old wiring ! Jeff

zed world chip
Ah ha just seen you previous thread abut you buying this car as a project : its was a project from last owner its all been put back together with few upgraded parts all which need a set up With so many unknowns then, the tune is the last thing to get into with out checking for boost leaks, throttle balance checks, timing checks, injector size fitted, tps set up, spark plugs fitted and boost levels. This is essential to be sorted before anything else can be started on, no wonder they said there was problems with the mapping if it is another person`s unfinished build project! Jeff
