When I went to see a car, the guy just got a locksmith to cut a key and started up fine. I don't think there is any electronic immobiliser, then again, that car is far from stock[emoji14]

For stuff like cars you have to call the locksmith to where the car is so he can cut a key for the car lock. Wait, 'got a locksmith to cut a key' you already have a key for it???

You can't get key profiles from the reg and vin, otherwise anyone could just order a key for any car they see since some cars have the vin on windshield :D

I think when they are imported there is some kind of legislation that says they have to be fitted with an alarm so odds on it will have an immobiliser as well.

It will be aftermarket so I wouldn't have thought it would be on the key, just a separate fob most likely.

Funnily enough Ali's car was exactly like that when I got it - no keys and immobiliser activated.

2 hours of knowledgeable friend later immobiliser and alarm removed and car fired first time.

I got a full lock set and a titanium key (which Ali has now bent) for £85 off eBay, took me about 3 hours to change all 4 locks and I had never done them on a Zed before.

I did suspect there would be an aftermarket alarm because of all the mods.

Also bent key haha, nobody told me there was a key release button :p, but I can't be the only one since both my titanium ones are bent slightly.

Lol really? You can get keys cut from. Reg and vin?? Lol

So TIL companies can get the key code from manufacturers, but they require some sort of proof I.e: *inside page of the log book along with a copy of your driver’s licence photocard.*

Learned something myself :)

Oh okay, I've only seen people cut them from the locks. So I guess your answer is that your car COULD have an immobiliser, but it would be aftermarket and probably removable. And apparently you can get your key cut from the vin so happy days. Hope there aren't too many problems underneath but its a steal for what it is.

do these cars dead lock?

No dead locking and import cars vin will not get you key code, and anyway if it did on UK zeds they might not be the original locks anyhow, could be an expensive mistake.

Zed locks and keys are late eighties design so certainly not high tech, quite costly to get a mobile locksmith, personally be easier to break in ( quite easy ) and change the locks from a breaker job done.

Oh and any after market immobiliser will be clear to find under the ignition lock housing as the new cables stick out like sore thumbs from the 20 year old wiring !

Shouldn't do unless something else has been added

In theory if the door is opened then the alarm will go off and the immobiliser will prevent the car being started.

If the car is locked and you can't get a key, my low tech solution is break the cheapest window (door glass I reckon)

However BEFORE you do that see if you can get hold of Jeff as he will almost certainly know how to get in.

You don't want to be trying to force the lock as if you damage the door skin that is a right pain.

Look at that while I was typing the Jeff genie appeared

Ha, ha, yes if the original poster wants to pm me I can details a couple of no damage ways to get in and get around any immobiliser.
