Keep them coming guys and gals. Jeff- Xmas meet
Ok here we have it an invitation to all of the members here to the ZEDWORLD XMAS BASH Sunday December 20th 2009 starting and finish times to be finalised and in part up to you guys and your enthusiasm and the attendance numbers. This is to be a festive party meet for the membership that we are very happy to facilitate the event and can promise a good time food and drinks ( non alcohol for the drivers :duffer: ) A little background to the event location for those who don't know where we are there is parking for 50+ zeds immediately outside with another 30+ in an adjacent car park less than 60 seconds walk so no worries about room to show your zeds off. Comfortable sitting front area with full facilities, heating, toilets etc, the inner area will be cleared of zeds so a larger area still inside ( heated ) for chatting and putting names to faces etc. the refreshments are all free and to include cold and warm food there is a compulsory £1 raffle and in the true Xmas tradition big fat fresh turkey is on offer for the winner and will be a bargain for someone for a quid!! any cash left over will be donated to a worthy charity. So to cap it off music, eat, drink and zed chat, all family friendly undercover ( no freezing pub car park) so names would be a real good start so we can get organised and maybe add some more to it accordingly. As a side note the date is flexible for that weekend and we can do it either the 19th or 20th so dependant on you guys what you prefer Jeff TT 1. Vodkashots + 1 2. Munny975 3. eVIL 4. Baz 5. Oh yes it is, for those that did not see the original thread here it is http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=132407 NICEEEEEEEEEEE Jeff TT- 19k mile zed
Ok remember the red 9k miles one owner from new zed discussed a couple of weeks ago?? well here are the pics from underneath, they do not do it justice to be honest its amazing standing underneath it remiinding yourself its 15 years old, yes there is a little surface rust but look at the downpipes/ cats and the diff cooler looks brand new!! Jeff TT- UK drivers will be shafted again...
Can see it now e-bay carbon credits buy now ££££££ Flipping officials Jeff TT- Non Nissan thermostats
Like many after market parts designed for motorsport but sold to road car owners. Jeff- Oil leaks
Dripping oil and smoke from the exhaust alerted the owner of this zed to a problem. Smoking away as it was put on the ramp the “oil drip” was soon revealed as a gusher but from an odd place behind the front bumper. Well of course the oil cooler is locate there and initial thoughts were it maybe related to that, but once the panels were removed the amount of oil splatter and the area effective eliminated the cooler, further investigation revealed the oil was coming from the dump valves !! Now suspecting something worse than originally thought the offside inter cooler was removed and a gush of oil poured out !! see the pictures below and yes it turned out bad news for the owner as the engine was damaged internally rather than just turbo`s like he had thought, so a quick engine replacement on he was on his way. Oh and the alarmingly big horn units did not work well after all of that oil so replaced them with more appropriate items i.e. not for a truck!! Jeff TT- Non Nissan thermostats
Thermostats. In previous tech threads the thermostat has been looked in some detail, in the main about ones stuck open and the subsequent low temp running issues which can lead onto lowered performance due to safety boost operating as the ecu considers the engine too cool to allow full boost and of course this uses excess fuel too, here we deal with NON GENUINE thermostats. So check out the two photos below, the stat on the right is an old but genuine Nissan unit, the unit on the left a non genuine new (ish) unit removed from a zed earlier this week with the cool running issues. The preferred normal running temp for the zed is 80C this is essential for safe and full running, the genuine item has a set opening rating of 76.5C this allows a small amount of overrun to the ideal 80C no after market stats are easily available at the correct temp rating. The item in the photo on the left is rated at 65C so with a few degrees overrun the running temp at idle was around 69C to 70C some 10 degrees less than ideal. But when testing on the road with extra air flow through the rad as well as a faster spinning water pump and fan blade the on the road temp was dropping to 60C occasionally and well into safety boots area. Ok so with no after market stats the correct temperature its another reason to stick with Nissan only parts, Nissan recently raised the price on these by almost 300% but do not be tempted to save a few quid on a spurious one ..just not worth it, of course you may well have a spurious one fitted without knowing it.- 350z
With all the advances in the modern car sadly the underbody protection is still last on the list, the 350z a modern design car, this one an 04 reg 60k on the clock and corrossion already doing its stuff, note the two cat pipe shield, rotted through, one needed removing as it was rattling, see now he should have bought a 300zx:D- fan Shroud
Nothing that clever matey, just a basic library picture used to explain the air flow issues that can arise.:D Jeff- fan Shroud
Oh yes and they fit ok with larger rad too:nana2: Jeff- fan Shroud
The photo below explains why a cowling is important, a zed will work without one of course as some guys here do not have one, however the diagram explains why you should. Jeff TT - MAF Wiring
