  1. From memory 10 to 14 ohms is a good reading. Jeff TT
  2. Here is a useful link below, also are you using the latest epg? is so it may well reset to the old epg (electronic programme guide) when a full system rest is done. Most if not all makes of sky receivers have issue`s with freezing, failed recordings (on Sky +). and channel drop outs. On Sky+ and HD receivers there is a system restore for the program planner known as "housekeeping" this oddly also sorts out other issues. Power supply issues is part of the problem, there are "fixes" available for earlier receivers which replaces the psu inside of the box, transient spikes on the mains is an issue and its well worth using a surge protector extension lead. Hope that helps Jeff http://nice-design.co.uk/blog/sky-plus-system-fault-how-to-fix-faulty-sky-without-a65-callout-fee
  3. No matey, he picked up a dirty rag when he was lying down having a rest from walking to the workshop from his car. Jeff
  4. Just to add to that, have had at least 3 occasions where belts have been fitted incorrectly by main dealers that in fair did not end up in any damage but had to be redone by myself and non of the them accept any liability and in fact refused to accept they had done anything wrong, the burden of proof is always the hardest hurdle to cross in these instances. Jeff TT
  5. Just watched that in awe of her talent. Jeff
  6. Well in theory yes but only if a provable manufacturing fault was evident with the belt and the belt had been changed in accordance with any set schedule ie all belt pulleys, adjuster etc, etc. In fact, one of the cambelt suppliers ( can not remember the name at the moment) who advertise to the trade offer this very warranty to garages, where if you buy their belts and do everything correctly they will pay for any engine damage if it occurs due to a faulty belt failing. Jeff
  7. No sorry I meant to write, if you fit an upgraded non turbo clutch with segmented plate it will be fine not too hard to depress even without the turbo booster, but able to take the extra power of a turbo. Jeff
  8. Not sure if this has been mentioned recently but to anyone thinking about buying a set of " NISMO 555 injectors" like the ones from the US. no actual fault with them or the suppliers but the flow rate of the new ones now selling are over 600cc, given that the older 555`s were much less, the issue comes with "generic 555" eproms that are NOT acurately mapped to the new ones and will be overfueling and any associated issues that can cause. Having seen yet another zed with this problem I thought a heads up may just help with any pre-purchase choices, factor in a custom eprom and it will sort this out, any of the guys writing eproms here should be able to help. Jeff TT
  9. Propshaft is different, need to also change the speed sensor cog for a twin turbo one as the diff is a different ratio. Will all fit with a bit of work though, fit an uprated turbo clutch to save messing with the bellhousing and starter fitting. Jeff TT
  10. Well Dannzx the Gates belt is better than the Blue print by a long way and in all fairness have not done the same back to back comparison with the Nissan one and Gates have a long good reputation. But if working to service mileages its difficult to know what they are likely to be with an non genuine belt as only the car manuafacturer reccomends individial model change intervals, will the gates one last as long as a Nissan one?? will it be good in normal service? probably...belt savings not really worth it. Jeff TT
  11. A very common zed body work issue is the alignment of the front wing where it meets the door and more so lower down at the sill. Check out the pictures below the first showing how bad it can look, the problem is caused by damage to the lower part of the wing where it is fixed to the sill. The damage can be cause in accidents but in the main is due to badly placed trolley jacks, tyre bays been the worst culprits. The good news the fix is relatively easy, in the case shown a simple redressing of the wing fixing is all that was required, a flat bolster chisel is ideal and as the lower wing / sill start to move back in place it is easy to judge how far to go. Take a look at the last two pictures, they show the how much improved the wing gap looks after just a minutes of tapping and aligning, remember of course to clean and re-coat the sill edge if any underseal is damaged, of course some damage can be worse than this and takes a bit more work but definitely worth it. 12. A very popular performance mod is a “chip” and boost upgrade, the ecu part of the job requires the Nissan eprom to be de-soldered and a socket to be re-soldered in. However this is where mistakes are often made with poor soldering causing shorts and subsequently damaging the new eprom. But even the professionals get it wrong sometimes, check out the pictures below, not easy to see in the first one but picture two and three show in closer detail that one of the pins has not been soldered at all and in fact caused the ecu to behave very oddly, very embarrassing for the company involved, 30 years in Auto Electronics and a silly school boy error. Jeff TT
  13. So fired up the ever reliable Vectra this morning and was amazed to see the oustide temperature was minus 9.5C !!!! was so amazed I took a picture. However just 11 minutes later and two miles down the country lane where I live I could not believe that it fell and fell to minus 14C !! had to pull over and take the photo, personally I have never seen this kind of temp in the UK ever. I guess any of you guys up Scotland will think nothing of it but still wow!! Jeff TT
  14. No worries matey, work takes priority these days!! and a Spring meet you so read my mind...watch this space. Jeff
  15. Daz just replaced a set of these with standard units as the zed they were fitted to failed the MOT for insecure road springs! as the lower collar just sits on the original shocks platform when the wheels are off the floor and the suspension is hanging the units are loose to move about. Have some pics of the issue will post them later will make more sense then. Jeff TT
  16. Common issue Daz, the lights alert module has failed on that side, often but not always caused by a short when changing bulbs or tapping onto the circuit incorrectly. You have two option: one replace the module which is located on the rear of the drivers side rear light, normally clipped to the outer edge they some times are unclipped and are hanging down on the loom. Two link out the offending circuit at the module, just identify the cable which needs linking with a voltmeter and link using the same size cable. (If you want the actual cable colours for that I can check them for you) For your info the modules go for around a £10 unless someone here has a free one for ya. Jeff
  17. Hiya, dont know them at all, but here are some reviews of past customers, Jeff TT http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews204329.html
  18. Just in case anyone here comes across a listing on e-bay for a garage in Barking advertising 300zx engine supply and fit for under £1500 you might want to check some feedback from some of their previous customers, it would appear they use at least least three trading names but all seem to come back to the same address. (Auto fix, Parts plaza, Easy engines) ebay link first http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120512022708&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp4712.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3D120512022708%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1 Customer feed back http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/easy-engines-barking-parts-plaza-c177193.html?sort=datea&page=2 As they used to say on Hill St Blues "Be careful out there" Jeff TT
  19. Here you go, seem to have a good rep and mobile service too. Jeff http://www.birminghamalloywheels.co.uk/
  20. Hi matey, From your questions I can see you have done a little research and have some knowledge of what you want but and only my opinion you are comparing what you consider tech knowldge from other similar "turbo cars" all I can say is don`t! Take a clean view of the 300zx engine, its characteristics and how it operates, this way you will not get bogged down in misunderstandings, ie the air filter flow/ size and bov applications, stage tuning etc. To illustrate what I mean take a completely stock 300zx TT that is well set up and replace the eprom along with a method of raising boost to around 14psi and you now have a 350+ bhp car! easy, no magic tricks no been clever with working out this and that. A free flowing exhaust and air filter can be added later or as in your case already has then thats great, but not completely necessary, yes they will work well with an eprom change but do not expect massive power increases from an induction kit on its own. So back to your question, yes eproms and boost jets are easily available here in the UK, a few guys here sell them as do people on e-bay but I would avoid the e-bays ones. The ecu needs to be socketed as the original eprom is soldered directly to the pcb, this can be an issue for some and and so many of the eprom suppliers will also do a service where you send your ecu and they do the conversion for you. Ok so this means now you have to just refit the ecu and fit the boost jets in the turbo actuator pipework to delay the opening of the wastegates and hence raise the boost easy!! well hopefully it is....but only if your engine is set up well any problems with tps settings, timing settings, air/boost leaks, throttle balance or det sensor issues will effect the outcome, and some such as incorrect timing could potentially damage your engine. Now this is why I personally do not advocate the selling of "chips" through the post as the onus is on the car owner for any possible damage caused to their engine, which in my view is a cop out for the eprom supplier who should take full responsibility for their products, just my view of course. 22. So the wirless encryption really makes that much difference then? Oh and after two hours of Assassins Creed ll...wow what fun. Jeff TT
  23. Getting pipes quickly is an issue but what you can do is pop off to your local motor factor and buy a length of heater hose and a couple of new jubilee clips, remove the heater matrix pipes from the engine side and link them using the new pipe. Only a work around and not a fix but gives you time to sort it out, of course you will not have a heater which is a bit unpleasant at this time of year. Jeff TT
  24. Because of the issues I have been using the PS2 more, the PS3 gets used rarely at the moment, maybe that is the problem as you said. Jeff
