  1. What size do you have on the fronts? IMO with 17s this (255/40/17) is probably the best size to chose. It's also a pretty common tyre size so prices are reasonable too. 265/40/17 and wider are rare, more difficult to source and are therefore unecessarily expensive. Also the wider the tyre the less grip it can have in the wet. HTH Richard :smw:
  2. Agree totally not once have I lost the back end in the wet since fitting my F1s, no matter how close my right foot goes to the floor ;) Japanese Performance mag reckoned they were way better than Bridgestones. Plus Evo mag tested loads of tyres last year and the F1s came top by a LONG way. Proof against the competition I say :hyper: Richard
  3. Nice one Gio :hyper: And the prize for the fastest version of the Z goes to.......... :D Richard ;)
  4. You've got me there.... ...do tell  Richard :)

It's good enough, but it is a GT rather than a sports car so the MR2 will easily outhandle it. But as someone said, that is easily sorted. Grip is generally good and I find it predictable, even in the wet (good tyres help here :D ). The problem is the car's weight - as the miles/years advance the weight takes its toll on suspension components. Mine has 73K miles and was owned by a Nissan garage owner for most of its life so it is still pretty tight. Best thing IMO is the midrange wallop for overtaking - not much touches it for passing an HGV, caravan and 2 cars in 1 go on a busy A road..... Welcome to the forum :) BTW. If you are looking to buy, there are 1 or 2 good ones for sale by members here. Richard
  6. Those are the n/a Supra, twin turbos are still pretty expensive - around £10K for a good one, low mileage UK cars (UK Soops are better than imports) fetch premiums. I know of 2 (L & M regs) that sold for £15k last month.... Richard :)
  7. Ditto, only 8" wide on the rear does limit the width of tyres you can fit - I'd go no wider than 245 really. I'd try and "photoshop" the image onto a ZX first, though. They may not be the look you are after. Richard :)

As everyone else says, you are not liable for anything. If the big ends had gone whilst you still owned it you would have known about it, they make a lot of noise and oil pressure would be way down. If they have suddenly gone after he has bought it, then tough shit on him - did he check the oil etc before driving away? If it was dangerously low that could cause sudden bearing failure, but again he should have made all necessary checks. The old saying is "Buyer beware" At the price he paid, I wouldn't even offer anything. Tell him politely it's his own look out. Richard :)
  9. Dividends are not actually tax free, they are paid from a limited company net of 10% notional tax - hence you receive them after tax. However if you are into high rate tax then you will have to pay 32.5% of the grossed up dividend to HMIT (ie an extra 22.5% as you are deemed to have paid 10% before you receive it). Basic rate tax payers (below £31400) wil not pay any extra tax until gross earnings exceed this limit. Exactly as Shrimpy says. I was a tax manager for an accountancy practice (and Shrimpy's an accountant too  ) until June so we know our stuff.... If you start a sideline business, Scoops I guess you won't go limited (not worth it) so you would have to declare your profits (after allowable expenses) on your tax return each year. You would pay tax at the same rate as your salary, unless the extra income takes you into high rate if not already there. No national insurance though unless business profits exceed about £4600 p/a. Tax is due by 31st January following the end of the tax year in which money earned. Richard :)
  10. Sounds like a good deal, mate  I've always liked the 8 series, Stylish and smooth, but are you sure about those performance figs? 840 is fekking heavy, even by Z standards and takes around 17-18 to hit 100 from still so way slower than a ZX. The 850 would struggle to hit 60 in 5.9 unless it's the CSi (5.6 litre). 4.4 V8 is a cracking engine though - don't they use it in the new Morgan too? Richard :)
  11. Mine too  I've got these and they are the best tyres I've ever had, wet or dry. Been on the car a year (7-8000 miles) and still 6mm of tread :hyper: Michelin Pilot Sport are brilliant too, but pricey. BFG are good too, had them on my Supra but they didn't last that long. Although they were the first tyre I ever had that didn't deteriorate in grip/performance when they were worn out. They were still good so I didn't notice they were almost illegal until pointed out by my mechanic :x: Richard :hyper:
  12. Hi Gio, So did he came back from France to finish the job or did you find someone else? I'm no expert but I'd have thought someone who knew the ZX could remove and refit the plenum, manifold etc in a day. Then perhaps another day for the other bits. That must have cost you the GDP of a small South American Country  Richard :(
  13. Me too, I got my ZX before I found the forum and would still have it if the forum ceased tomorrow. Would miss the banter, though and I'd have to spend more time with the wife ;) Richard
  14. 1200euro road tax???? feck that, I'd rather pay our petrol prices for 7500 miles per year... Happy Z day, Tulip :hyper: Richard ;)

Normal cars like Mondeo and Vectra 1.8s can tow caravans FFS!! ;) Seriously, though, follow advice about gearbox oil cooler or it could cost you loads. Personally I would not use my ZX to tow anything, I just use it as Mr Nissan intended..... :D Richard :smw:

Hi Robert The H3 kit would fit UK spec cars and I'm sure would be adaptable for J-spec. See the recent thread from Leigh (AKA Friday) regarding his recent purchase.... Richard :)
  17. Interesting, Jeff I'll take a look later  Richard :)
  18. Not a bad idea - you could probably make most of that back on the wheels :) Richard
  19. What a waste of time..... Only in the US of A  Reminds me of an old Lax Power feature car (Renault 5, probably) which had a toilet roll holder complete with roll attached, fixed to the dash on the passenger side..... Richard :p
  20. Hi SWB, Plenty of threads on this one ;) (lots of "debate" too  ) Nissan may recommend a semi-synth (10w40), but that's the minimum one should use. Fully synth is a much better choice for a TT. Grade and brand is personal opinion/choice. See "Sticky" thread from Oilman. Some of us use Castrol RS 10w60, but unless your ZX has high miles or is heavily modded I would say that's too thick (gives too much pressure, therefore stress on seals, and increases fuel consumption). As your ZX has low mileage try 5w40 first I use this with no problems on my 73000 mile TT(Shell Helix Ultra very good and easily available). I have no leaks, noise and good oil pressure. It doesn't burn much either - I may add 1/4 litre after a couple of thousand hard driving miles but most of the time it doesn't need topping up. 0w40 Mobile 1 is probably too thin (My Supra didn't like it so I never put it in my ZX). Richard :)
  21. May just be down to the size on the front brake calipers - TT probably bigger, hence the spacers on the front to give extra clearance. Richard :)
  22. They look amazing, Leigh  Nice to see in the dark is it..... ;) Actually my headlights are pretty good, but I may go for this kit too - you'll never have to use full beam by the look of if  Richard :)
  23. I voted "yes" although the true answer is probably somewhere in-between, depending on how much affect that person has on my everyday life. If I don't have any regular contact with them anyway I may not forgive, but I will probably forget. Life's too short to hold petty grudges and you should try not to make enemies - you never know whether you may need help from that person in the future ;) If someone does manage to pi$$ me off, as I'm laid back and easy going, it is generally short lived. Next day it is in the past and I just get on with my life and not let things bother me. The problem with internet/text talk is that while you may well actually say the same thing to someone's face, it is the way you say it that counts. Facial expressions, tone of voice etc are lost in cybertalk (hence we have the "smilies" here  ) so what is meant as harmless banter gets taken out of context. The forum is here for help/advice on thing ZX (plus NZR help/opinions sometimes) and a bit of a laugh. Treat it as a bit of fun - I still like coming on here - and if someone/something pi$$es you off, don't take it personally/seriously. It's not worth it. Richard
