I couldn't find anything else to replace my old Mk3 Soop.... GT/GTO too lardy and slow for mid-range overtaking Scoob/Evo to ordinary - saloon cars + like @rsoles (everybody's got one  ) Skyline nice but again too ordinary looking, plus R33/34 expensive Mk4 Soop very nice car but fekking ugly - plus UK cars are difficult to find (and they were still V expensive for what you were getting at the time) RX7 nice but don't trust rotary power So it had to be the ZX  Plus this forum is better than the others  Think I made the right choice  Richard
  3. Hi yas I don't think so mate - I don't have one......I think ;) Richard
  4. Hi Rich If the aerial is clean and smooth then you may need to replace the relay. It's a transparent white box (the size of a cigarette box) that lives just above the right wheel arch behind the boot trim. Otherwise give it a clean with some wire wool and WD40, then "excercise" it by switching the radio on and off and helping it up and down by hand (oo er mrs :p ) until it works by itself. They can be tempremental if not properly clean. HTH Richard
  5. Hi all My zed went into safety boost again this afternoon. All was fine until about half way home when I tried to overtake 3 cars  The last time this happened it was a hot day too and the car wouldn't boost over 7 psi after driving for half an hour....... Why does this happen? It is fine early morning when it's still cool Am I getting det (couldn't hear it?) or is it the sensor wiring? Any thoughts....... Richard :(
  6.
  7. Currently use Turtle Wax colour magic (red, of course ;) ) and then finish with either Turtle Wax Extreme or Autoglym super resin polish. Gives good finish and protection. I polish about 4 times a year and find that between polishes, a wash with good old Turtle Wax Zipwax is all it needs to replenish the shine. No need for the more expensive car shampoos - none can beat the old Zip Wax it seems. See the Autocar test results :hyper: Richard :)
  8. Yeah, just a bit pissed off - Zed was looking good in the sun today..... I suggested to the Landy driver that I may pay for his damage myself, but I still phoned my insurers when I got in. I will need a courtesy car to get to work whilst Zed is being fixed. I work 25 miles away and there is no public transport - the ZX is my everyday car. :( Thanks everyone - as I said at least I'm OK and the Zed isn't too badly damaged. Richard
  9. Everything was fine until 18.10 this evening when I bashed it into a Land Rover  Richard ;)
  10. Just driving home from work today when I turn a semi-blind left bend after a bridge (60mph limit A road) at 45-ish to find a Land Rover stopped in the road - a marked clearway..... Turns out someone had pulled out of a side road in the path of someone else, who either flashed or hooted to show annoyance, then the fekker who pulled out oh so cleverly slammed on his brakes in reply :xxx: (A t0sser in a Corsa). I then came round the corner a second later totally unaware these b@stards were having a road rage thingy and hit the Land Rover. Luckily my brakes were good enough to slow me to less than 20mph and I could half steer round the Landy. Got away with cracked front bumper, broken left headlight & foglight and possibly the need for a new left front wing. At least I'm OK and the Landy driver still blames the Corsa driver - but as the w@nker in the Corsa drove off I guess I have to take the blame :( (No damage to the Landy other than rear o/s light...) And I'd just spent Saturday polishing it too........ Richard
  11. Yup, can relate to this as well  Otherwise the usual suspects - Audi TT 225s, BMs, Golf VR6s, Pork 928s4 & Boxter, GTO TT, FTO, Integra & Civic Type R, Sierra Cossie 4x4 etc etc Don't bother with Paxos, Corsas and that sh1te - most of those drivers are reckless tw@ts likely to cause an accident so I usually let them go..... Richard
  12. I voted B but this seems closer to reality ;) Julia loved my old Mk3 Soop and couldn't understand why I bought the ZX or once I had it, why I love it...... Then last year we took the Zed on its first holiday to the wilds of North Yorkshire. Not only did it look great in the hotel car park (couldn't turn up at a country manor in the Corsa :o ) but when I showed her how it could overtake a caravan, a coach and a Jag in one swift move she was impressed :D Last month on the way to Cornwall, we were cruising at a steady 100 on an empty M4 and Julia asked just how quickly it would reach 150, if at all...... .....well as it was all quiet I said "Watch this :D " She now understands why I love it and look after it so much. And I now think she is gradually growing to appreciate it too.... ;) Richard :hyper:
  13. That's a Ford, though Stuart.....(Fix Or Repair Daily) :D No, seriously it could be either of the things SRRAE said. My first Supra Turbo had a full engine rebuild at 62000. The head gasket went (Common prob on Mk3 Turbo Soops) the oil fried and the rest is history...... Before I bought it fortunately ;) If you look there are a few nice low mileage UK cars out there. Sounds like you got a bargain too. Good luck, hope it's a good one. Richard :smw:
  14. An Audi TT FFS ??? Poncey car for :xxx: and hairdressers  OK the latest shape M5 is a decent car, but it's still a saloon. And a Beemer :xxx: GTO is a nice car but it doesn't get the top driver's juices flowing like a ZX. What would he know anyway, if he drives a Passat. You'd think if he knew and loved cars he would have chosen better  Yeah, :mac1: him!! Richard :)
  15. An old guy who parked his Micra in front of me outside a shop said "Nice car, mate. What is it, A Ferrari?" "No" I replied "It's a Nissan!" "Nissan don't make cars like that!" He said "....not any more...!!" I replied  Richard :)
  16. I think it's all down to age ane wear and tear of the components. Speedos on a many Japanese cars (that's manufacturers, not imports) are much more accurate than Fords and Vauxhalls (how many Calibra 8v owners have seen 145 - they only do 126 and the speedo goes off the clock at that! ) when new. mine is accurate to 100 but I've not used GPS at speeds over that..... Seen just under 160 on the clock, though. Richard :)
  17. 350Z has grown on me now - black is the only colour for it, though My wife used to have a 1.0 16v Micra. Great little car, I drove back home the NEC in it in 1 hour flat to my front door - it's exactly 99 miles  Richard :)

Sorry mate, I was referring to cars in stock form from my own experience. The GTO does suffer in midrange performance and does not have as quick in gear performance as a ZX. This was also proven in UK based road tests by What Car and Evo mag. From WC mag Oct '93... 0-60....ZX=5.6 / GT=5.8 - close 0-100...ZX=14.5 / GT=16.1 - falling behind Same figures also achieved in other road tests too Summing up the GT "......letting it down are disappointing mid-range performance owing to the worst turbo lag......" Something I could relate to after driving a few when looking to replace my Mk3 Supra Turbo, which had excellent mid-range response. Other than that I did like the GT. That was with UK spec cars though, I don't know how J-spec GTOs differ from the 3000GT, performance wise  Fair point about the modification though, just I'm not into modding really. Richard :)
  19. As Sir Clint said in The Rookie.... ....."He ought to have his @rse removed....." :xxx: Richard :(
  20. I remember that one from the '80s. Could have switched it round to say ".......I may be inside your daughter......." I came up behind a Cossie on the A41 hogging the outside lane a couple of months ago, on his numberplates he had "Move over, I want to play" Guess who moved over for who...... :xxx: The road was empty so I though why not? and showed him just how quickly 300 horses can pull a ZX to 150....... :x: Richard :)

Very little difference in performance really. It's a good auto so you can't compare it like you would, say, a manual vs auto Mondeo. I drove both versions and found performance similar. It is reckoned that whilst manuals are a couple of 10ths quicker to 60, the auto is quicker to 100 from rest. Just drive both and make up your mind...... As for reliability, early autos (1990) are reckoned to be less reliable. Also Jap-spec autos don't have the gearbox oil cooler that the UK cars have, hence they are known to get hot and fry. Easily cured by fitting the 'cooler, Jap cars aren't driven as hard or fast as we do here.... Richard :smw:

More true in the case of a ZX, it's less frantic and more effortless than a scoob. That V6 is so smooth you barely feel it. Something in the way the Zed delivers its performance that you don't notice it so much until you either look at the speedo or into the rear view mirror ;) Richard :D
  23. Funny that, but my Zed doesn't like it either. :nono: I've a UK car with no mods, so normally use regular 95ron unleaded (either Shell or BP). I sometimes use Optimax - no noticable difference in performance but I do seem to get more mpg. In fact Shell fuel in general gives better mpg for me. I used Ultimate a couple of times from different garages and my Zed seemed slower than with regular unleaded  Richard ;)

Have to admit, the GTO is a fantastic looking car - especially the later versions with fixed headlights. Shame they don't have the all-round performance to go with it. OK 0-60 and standing 1/4 they are only a few 10ths behind a ZX but 0-100 they start to fall behind the competition in a big way. I looked at a few before I got my ZX. They have good grip but suffer from too much turbo lag which gives a very dissapointing mid-range performance (my old Soop 3.0i turbo was way quicker in the 40-100 overtaking range). Still, they are up for some decent modding if that's your bag...... :p Now the Soop TT may look fekking ugly with the Colonel Blimp "myopic" look but it is a superb car - shattering performance (especially 326bhp Uk spec) and sharper steering and handling than the GTO can manage, even with its 4WD. Plus a decent UK car still costs over £10K for an L reg..... :nono: Hence I chose the ZX - good looking and with decent all round performance "out of the box" Still would have a Supra though..... Richard :D
