  1. True  Unless Kelly Brook in her undies is draped over the car, of course ;)
  2. Should be fine at low speeds, but I'd get it replaced ASAP - you don't want it going at motorway speeds. Someone here must have a decent UK spec rear they don't want. Ask AndyZ or PHNW. Richard :)
  3. Hi mate, Just a thought, but if you are intending to mod an N/A to 300bhp (stock TT power) I reckon the insurance will be more than a stock TT. Plus without nitrous it will be difficult and expensive to up the power from 225bhp to 300. That's a big hike - again it may be cheaper to just get the TT. Performance: N/A = 0-60 in 7.1, top of 146 TT = 0-60 in 5.4 top of 155 (restricted to 112 on J-spec and 155 on UK spec. Unrestricted = as fast as you dare :D - or around 170, as some on here have seen). N/A is probably livelier off the mark for a couple of seconds, but as soon as the turbos spin up at around 30mph it's bye-bye N/A. The SWB N/A in manual is a good choice of car and pretty rare. Good luck - you've come to the right place  Richard :smw:
  4. Yup me too..... Although I'm currently thinking of buying a 4x4 for the winter so I can get to work..... What does everyone think of the Shogun - a nice 3000v6 can be bought for £3-4000, J/K plate with 70k on the clock ;) Richard :D
  5. If you are referring to rear fogs, the w@nkers who turn them on in light mist or rain...... ....READ YOUR FEKKING HIGHWAY CODE - ONLY USE WHEN VISIBILITY IS 100 METRES OR LESS. IF YOU CAN STILL SEE THE CAR IN FRONT WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE REAR FOGS ON THEN TURN YOURS OFF FOR FECK'S SAKE :nono: Sorry, now this thread is winding me up as I think about all these reasons :D ;) Richard
  6. I would just laugh it off sarcastically to show he doesn't bother me. Other than that give as good as you get - how ever he acts with you, respond in the same way. If he is senior to you, just do it with respect ;) Don't come accross as being difficult or he will have a problem with you. Remember you are there only to do your job. If he has any problem with you personally but you do your job properly, he will have little grounds to get you in shit. Otherwise just tw@t the pr1ck.... :D Good luck mate Richard
  7. I mentiond this product sometime back in a thread about fuel system cleaners. I've never used it but I know of a Jap car tuning company called Calder Racing Developments, based in Scotland who do and claim it works. May be worth giving them a call (sorry I don't have any contact details). I read a feature in a magazine on one of their cars - an MR2 turbo IIRC...... Richard ;)
  8. Really unfair.... What evidence do they have that you were driving dangerously? Nothing wrong with overtaking, unless you were driving seriously over the speed limit. Plus you did slow for the residential area. They sound like a couple of C * N T S. I'd write to the cop in charge at their station in complaint about their behaviour, stating the circumstances of your pull. Good luck mate Richard
  9. I doubt any of these will fit a ZX too. Certainly none of the regular (read cheaper) wheel manufacturers will have anything in 16 or 17 inch to fit. Some will have fitments in 18s. You will find that most will be 7 inches wide - too narrow as stock fronts are 7.5 and rears (UK) 8.5 wide - these will not clear the brake calipers. Aftermarket wheels that ACTUALLY fit properly are expensive so search out a 2nd hand set or stick with stock ones. Richard :smw:
  10. Neither are cool :slap: ;)
  11. The ZX is still pretty much a timeless classic owing to the clean wedge shape that apes Italian exotica. The brave but ugly Supra has faired much worse in the aging stakes. Although it is a great car it can look dated even though it was conceived 4 years later than a ZX. On hols last week the ZX got the usual admiration - one instance as I drove into the car park at Bolton Abbey. The attendant said "that's an amazing looking beast, I haven't seen one of these. I bet it flies....What is it?" I told him he'd never guess....."Lotus? TVR? a kit-car perhaps?" He was surprised when I said a Nissan ;) No, the ZX, Supra, GTO etc are looked upon as politically incorrect dirt today as the world has been told to buy small diesels, people carriers and Smart cars by the auto-fashion police. "So how much petrol do you use?....my diesel crapbox clone can travel to the moon on an egg-cup of fuel :slap: Cars like that should be banned....." Fekk-off!! they drive Beetles to "be individual" but every Tom, Dickhead and W@nker has one.... Sorry, bit carried away. Rant over - going out to waste £50 of shell's finest, won't be long ;) :D Richard :hyper:
  12. Yeh, and those crappy coulour are slowly returning to modern cars now.....
  13. They are pretty fast, but stock for stock they aren't quite as quick as a ZX - 60 comes up in 6.1 (ZX =5.5) and 0-100 takes around the 17sec mark. Still good by most standards, but the ZX does in in 14.5.... In the right colours they don't look bad either and you still get the targas :p Handling was a let down though - not at all good in the corners (even a ZX with knackered suspension would out manouver it ;) ) and the brakes aren't up to the car's abilities. The best but in that class in it's day was the Corrado V6 followed by the Calibra turbo - the Celica GT4 was way above those in a class of its own  Richard :smw:
  14. I can only restate what has already been said - if it's a private sale you have little chance of recovering anything unless it was seriously mis-described in the advert and you can easily prove that. Saying "good runner" isn't really a mis-description as the car may well have been running (maybe not at its best, but running nonetheless) OK prior to the sale. Also you have to consider whether the seller knew of the faults prior to the sale - good luck in proving that :( Sorry to give more bad news, but it will probably cost less in time and money just to get the car repaired. Try contacting the seller - you may be able to appeal to their better nature, if it was a woman (not being sexist here ;) ) she may have an attack of conscience and contribute to the repairs if you are lucky.... Good luck mate Richard
  15. I find 300bhp and twin turbos have a better effect :D ;) I find the "single speed idiot" most irritating. You know, the @rseholes that do 40 on a clear straight national speed limit road, break for every corner yet still drive through 30mph villages at 40+. They tailgate you at 30 in restricted areas so as soon as I see the national limit sign, bye bye :D Or if you're behind them in the national speed limit bits they move to the centre of the road so you can't squeeze past due to oncoming traffic even where the road is wide enough........And yes the w@nkers still flash or beep you as you overtake them  I get this some mornings - van or lorry doing 40 yet keeping far left out of courtesy, Audi or Beemer behind them debating whether their baboon barge is really fast enough to overtake. Then as soon as the Kraut wagon driver sees the ZX about to pass them and the lorry, he moves to the right just to stop me. (If he can't pas neither can I  ) I just wait for a gap in the oncoming traffic then nail it past - they don't have a chance as when they pluck up courage to make their move they are a mere spot in my rear view mirror :D Another reason to love the Zed - always makes me smile so I don't get mad ;) Richard :smw:
  16. I believe the Japanese are pretty honest people who would not generally "clock" their cars.... ....but I don't trust the British trade buyers at the Japanses auctions not to do it once they have bought the cars ;) Just my opinion - there are a few decent honest importers out there (Kent Terry at Jap City for one) who only buy and re-sell genuine cars Richard :D
  17. I've seen a couple and they do look good. I always liked the look of the S13 but thought the S14 looked a bit tame and ordinary. The S15 looks more like the true spiritual S13 successor - I believe they go alright too. Richard :p
  18. BM or Zed?? Well even if you did wimp out and get an N/A ;) you still chose wisely. Welcome to the fold :hyper: Congratulations on your impulse buy. Now post some pictures for us to see, subscribe to the forum and join the rest of us in the refuge of the damned (damned skint, that is, from running a ZX) :D Richard
  19. I have to admit, I'm a sucker for a V8 too  Love that sound, low down grunt and instant power....(Hence I still love the Porker 928 GTS) If the engine is lighter than the stock TT one, go for it :D When I drove my Mk3 Supra, I always thought of replacing the straight-6 turbo lump with the V8 from a Lexus but someone told me it would be heavier and slower than before :( Richard :smw:
  20. Hi Dik Don't just dismiss imports for the high insurance - yes they are generally higher but there are insurers (eg Houghtons - see traders forums) that don't charge more for imports. That said, you are limited to fewer companies if you have an import but once you have added a couple of mods (eg just new alloys and an airfilter induction kit) to a UK car your choice of insurers dwindles anyway. BTW mine is a UK car, so I'm not biased there ;) Richard
  21. Hi all Just got back from a week's well earned break in Yorkshire. I took a few pics of the Zed just to share with you...... Outside our hotel: At Ingleton Falls: Near Malham Cove: By the Ribble Head Viaduct: They are the first lot since having the 99-spec front fitted a couple of weeks ago. Richard
  22. I agree with Gio there  Top gear (old series) did a fast corner/braking in corner test between FWD (an Alfa 156), RWD (a 3 series Beemer) and 4WD (An Audi A4 Quatro). All pretty high-spec models, not base cr@p to see which variant was safest, most predictable etc. Suprised me too, but RWD actually proved the best. I have to say I prefer RWD to FWD anytime - as the experts say "....better to steer using wheels that don't also power the car..." Must explain why all supercars (Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, TVR etc) are all RWD  Richard
  23. UK market gets 189BHP and 228BHP (higher figures are "PS") Torque is a mere 156lb/ft though and the lower power version has more torque than the higher power one. I did like the look of the RX8 at launch but there are so many around now, and now I've seen it in the flesh, I don't like them. The 350Z is way better IMO. I don't think it is a worthy sucessor to the RX7 :( Richard :)
  24. I'd rate Japanese reliability over German any day - even with our 10 year old+ money pits  Sorry but Kraut engineering just isn't up to it's reputation. Didn't VW have to change their advertising slogan last year (....If only everything in life was as reliable as a VW Golf.....) because they came about 70th in the JD Power survey as they keep breaking down?? And in the same survey 8 of the top 10 are Japanese.... Richard :p
  25. where from?? Last time I looked on Lukes site they were around £65+Vat each.... BTW, Mike Feeney also does the 99 spec front - he supplied mine for the accident repair. IIRC he charges £275+vat Richard
