markzx Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I was on my way to Chris Getgready's last week. Fast lane of the M53 with a Blue Z350 up my rear. Me being in my Volvo C70 T5 thinks, "when the traffic open up a bit I'll pull over into the slow lane and he'll scream past me". Well road opens up and I'm just about to pull over to slow lane while accelerating from 65 to about 80mph and low and behold the guy tries to come up my inside. I thought :xxx: I'll make it a bit harder for you and nailed it, still expecting him to fly past. He got along side me and 80mph to 130mph he just couldn't make any ground and then began to fall away. He looked totally embaressed and I thought what a poor show. My Volvo is no match for my 300. I can't see how anyone could say that the Z350 is a worthy replacement. Its got not teeth at all + it looks crap. Most of all though. There seems to be too many twits behind the wheels of 350's Quote
Guest kia99 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Must say I have been out in a 350 (John Boys) and I was impressed. As it is NA you obviously do not get the kick of Turbos' but it was fast. But agreed on one point.... that driver sounded like a twat. Quote
Guest kia99 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I think you will find that a 350 will be quicker around the track as well. Quote
markzx Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 I think you will find that a 350 will be quicker around the track as well. Than my Volvo? I should hope so, but I doubt it would be quicker than my 300 round the track unless its got sorted suspension. Cos my Z has :D :D Quote
tooley Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 all im gonna say is wait while next year my 350z will be here and kitted and even better lookin than the best lookin z on here which is of course mr paul g's Quote
markzx Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 What Ya going to do to it. Put a 300ZX body on it and maybe a 300 TT lump in it   I'm sorry mate but the only way to make a 350 look good is to park it next to a CV2. Even then its a close call as to which is the Ten and which is the Nine pinter. :slap: and won't you be embaressed at all those old boy's flying past you in thier Volvos. Quote
DaveMac Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Saw 300s & 350s racing at Sebring, FL last year (must post up the video)- not much between them on corners but 300 had more straight line power. Both looked stock. Quote
Guest deve8uk Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Ive had a race with stock silver one a few times. Guys on the Z Club. I piss all over it on the strait, but unfortunatly the 350 is on rails round corners in the wet let alone the dry. And as we all know, ours is not very good in the wet. Quote
davido140 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I quite like the look of the 350 actually! (interior is b0ll0cks though) may be my next car when I get bored of the 300, sounds like they need some serious performance work doing though... (was it on here I read they were bringing out a "special edition" with extra horses?) Quote

I must say, I didn't like the interior much until seeing it in the flesh. The three dials to the left of the driver are real trick aswell. Quote

The Nismo supercharger has been an optional extra from Middlehursts since last September. It delivers 370 BHP at the crank. Weedy performance and that will bump the price of your Z350 to £36,000. Thats R34 Vspec land not plastic Audi TT impersonator Land. (Have you seen under the bonnet of the Z350) it looks like it been made from recycled Sierra bumpers :slap: Quote
EvoluZion3 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 the interior of the 350 is gorgeous, but doesnt have the 'cockpit' feel of the 300 ;) Quote
Guest pyro Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 Shh, Mark, my 350 just handed you your arse. If we'd had time to go out onto the Lancs, I would've been able to stretch my legs a little. Usual T5 Volvo crap. No kickdown 'til second gear? You were a carlength in front and set off before me. Everyone has an excuse, don't they? Mine is that I still had my TCS, have a 1 week old twin plate clutch that I can't use and I can't drive worth a sh*t but I still passed you. :P We'll see what your 300 is like, when they've finished putting it back together. ;) Oh and Middlehurst are selling the Stillen supercharger. Nismo don't make one. :nelson: Quote
ChrisP Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 Iam sure I have seen a turbo conversion for the 350 somewhere .. then maybe I was dreaming. Well it is Friday night ;-) Quote

Guest pyro Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 There's a couple of TT kits available for the 350. GReddy and Power Enterprise make one. Unfortunately the GReddy manifolds won't fit the RHD car. :( They only run really low boost, though (6-9psi) because the rods on the VQ are made of paper, so more than about 420hp and you need to replace the internals. Once that's done, though the 350 is good for upto ~1400hp, if the block is sleeved. If you're interested, keep an eye on my350z.com which is the US owners' site. There's 10-15 cars in for serious engine builds over there, atm and everyone is anxiously waiting for the results. :D Quote

Guest pyro Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 What? I thought I was quite polite, considering the slating he'd just given my car. :x: Quote
Shunter Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 I know there is a supercharge system for the 350z Quote
Guest pyro Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 There's a few. Stillen offer the top mounted one, which leads to the ugly bonnet bulge. Vortech offer a nice fitting one and ATi have the procharger, which caused major controversy by blowing a few cars up, beta-testing on the paying public. They can all be tweaked with various sized pulleys etc. Stillen is offered by Middlehurst because it was first on the market and first to be fitted and tested by them. As such, they offer a warranty on it. There's a member with a Stillen S/C and 2 members with the Vortech S/C on our member site, though I've never seen either car really going for it. They're seriously loud, though, at WOT. Sumo have an HKS supercharged 350 but I heard their 1/4 mile times at Santa Pod, a couple of weeks ago, were quite disappointing. Quote
Gio Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 The 350Z is far from a load of rubbish (best value "modern" sports, perhaps - what else is better costing £25k list?) but it is not a ZX. There's a surprise :D It's not supposed to be. If it was, it would be called a ZX. The Z and ZX styles are intended to be and are designed as two different types of cars. Please don't judge a Z by ZX criteria and please don't waste your time/money/effort in trying to turn a Z into a ZX or vice versa. Enjoy them for what they are, rather than what you would like them to be. Quote
Guest pyro Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 So was yours the ZX that was in the infamous 350 vs 300 1/5 mile thingy? Niiiiiiiice car. I think the 300 and the 350 are most definitely in the same category of car, though. The 300 was more expensive than the 350 is, now but without the launch of the RX-8, they both probably would've been very similar in cost, too. I know we're lacking a turbo but we're hardly lagging behind in the power stakes for want of boost. I'm wondering what an average 1/4 mile time for a stock 300ZX is? I can make a comparison with that...though driver/track conditions etc etc ad inf. can cause things to change. I enjoy my car for what it is. I'm sure you guys love your ZXs, just as much. I certainly have no ill-will, I just don't like misinformed car bashing, for no reason. You can't judge a car by one or two bad experiences, otherwise I'd be calling all subaru drivers a bunch of *expletive* *expletive*, wouldn't I? ;) Quote
Gio Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 otherwise I'd be calling all subaru drivers a bunch of *expletive* *expletive*, wouldn't I? ;) Don't we all? No, the 1/5 mile thingy was a white one on Top Gear - mine's a silver one and we did an all-model (except the 280Z) 1/4 mile shoot-out a couple of weeks back for a JC DVD coming out before Xmas. So that's 2 - 0 to the lardy old girl vs the new kid on the block! But I still don't think Z vs ZX is comparing like with like. When launched in the UK, the 300ZX Z32 was the most expensive Japanese car on the market at £34,500 - in 1990! Which, according to the rpi, makes it a £49,500 motor at today's prices. The ZX range was designed for a different market to the Z series. The 280ZX (in 1978) was an intentional move away from the traditional sports car to the personal luxury class. The first 300ZX (in 1983) was a further move along these lines. The new Z-car (the Z32 300ZX) was to become the flagship for Nissan's new technology. The ZX was up against cars like the Porsche 928S - definitely in the luxury supercar market and intended to prove the Japanese cold make as good a supercar as European and US marques. The 350Z is a return to the earlier Z series concept of 2 seater sports. Your competition is the Porsche Boxster and Audi TT (both of which are comprehensively blown into the weeds by the Z) and it's in the "affordable" sector rather than the £50k market. The 350Z is a great car - but it isn't, and was never intended to be - a 350ZX. Quote
john-boy Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 So was yours the ZX that was in the infamous 350 vs 300 1/5 mile thingy? Niiiiiiiice car. Hi Pyro - welcome to the turbulent waters of 300zx.co.uk ... LOL  Actually it was my 350 getting Gio'd in the Clarkson video, but I'm putting it down to the weight of his curly barnet (JC was piloting my car) .. piccies to follow on the other channel ;). I'm sure if I'd have been driving and not leaving half of my tyres over the start line the result would have been .. probably the same actually!! I too tried the old "1/5th mile" gag, but even over 1/4 mile, it seems that turbo puff beats N/A muscle for out and out speed. :smw: On a more general note, I agree with Gio actually, I don't think the 300 vs 350 is an apples-for-apples comparison. The 350 is a much more nimble car, that is ultimately more rewarding to razz around the lanes, more akin to the original 240, whereas the Z32 is a luxury rocket-ship, which is quicker in a straight line, which IMO stands out in a class of it's own form the rest of the Z incarnations as a techno-tour-de-force. :) As far as driving both cars, the 350 puts a huge smile on my face, much as my previous Z32s did, but for slightly different reasons as I've already touched upon. It doesn't scare the pants off me like the Z32 used to, when you catch the boost just right, but then it doesn't scare the pants of me that I won't arrive at my destination either, like my Z32 used too!! :D Personally, I think ALL the Zs are great cars, and we ought to spend more time celebrating that. After Z is an exclusive brand all of it's own, and we're all in the know, one way or another. To say the 350 is "rubbish" is just so much narrow-minded clap-trap  Just my 2p. CheerZ, JB. Quote
Paul C Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 welcome Pyro, think iv got some piccies of your car from billing - nice ride mate. JWT now fit their 530 turbos to the 350Z, as pyro says, rated at about 400bhp on stock internals. i agree with JB about not slating the Z33, the only one to slate should be the Z31 IMO!! :D Quote
