Not declaring mods for insurance
Sorry mate, but that is plain stupid. :nono: If you have modified your car and don't tell them then you simply do not have insurance. You'll find out if you make a claim as the assessors are not idiots nowadays. There may be some mods to your car that you may not know about - often this is why insurers charge more to cover imports as there is an "unknown quantity" about them. Richard

J Spec Fogs on a UK car?
Easiest way is to buy a fog light wiring kit from Halfords - Ring make one, costs about £10. It contains all the wiring, fuse and relay. The switch is pants but you can buy a nice one that blends in with the dash elsewhere. Richard

Dead Zed - need advice breaking
That seems a terrible waste of what looks like an otherwise tidy car. I would look at a replacement engine - someone could supply a decent one, I'm sure. Give AndyZ a call anyway. He may offer you a good engine at a reasonable price as you bought the car from him - he's a decent guy. It is deffo too good to break. Good luck mate Richard

Do Nissan Main Dealers Sell the 99 model front bumper?
You can always try Mike Feeney (MJP Auto) in the traders section - he sells them too. That's where I go mine from. I can't remember the price as he supplied it direct to my insurance co repairers but it was around the same as the Z centre (£280+vat approx). Richard

front end crunch
I hit a Landrover at about 20mph, the near side front hit his off side rear bumper and went under it. It broke my headlight, creased the top of the wing and fekked my bumper. Luckily when the old bumper was removed there was no damage underneath and the new bumper just bolted straight on. I used it as an opportunity to get the 1999 spec front end - IMO the best looking bumper for the ZX  Mike Feeney supplied all the parts to the bodyshop - top man :hyper: Richard :)

October renewal?
Hi Mike I've just renewed by Paypal, but did it from the "subscription" menu at the top. I didn't read the closed thread so forgot to add the Paypal fee, plus I went through the screen too quickly and didn't attach a message to the payment - doh! :( Let me know what you want me to do. Cheers Richard

Speed difference between NA & Turbo Models
Hi mate I drive my auto TT everyday to and from work - a round trip of 50 miles. Costs me around £50-£60 per week in fuel. Mixture of fast A road (single carriageway), bit of dual and 4 miles town driving.........plus some hard overtaking :D The auto in a ZX is a good 'box unlike that of ordinary cars so you don't lose performance. Kickdown is instant and fast so overtaking 3 cars and a lorry in one hit takes a couple of seconds :hyper: The UK spec Auto tends to be more reliable owing to better oil cooling - but you can fit the UK 'cooler to a Jap spec car, an essential upgrade most people reckon. The J-spec 'box has more options (sport, hold etc) The ZX is a heavy car so the extra power and torque of the TT is IMO essential, but the N/A is no slouch and should still be quicker than your Prelude. Buy a Zed, you'll not be dissapointed ;) Richard :smw:

Fitting Head Unit
Hi Mart You can buy an adapter from Halfords. Best bet is the Autoleads one (which Halfords can order for you) as you get the aerial adaptor too. One thing to note is that there is no live feed in the adapter for the rear amplifier (Not sure if J-spec cars have these, but UK cars have the amp fitted). This means the rear speakers won't work, to cure the problem join the accessory live feed to the live for the amp. Richard :smw:

October renewal?
Cheers Mike, I'll pay up this weekend Richard

Wheels and Tyres
Look at the actual wheels - the UK spec rear wheels have a slight "outward dish" appearance compared to the fronts. As Pete says, it is possible that a tyre fitter put 225/50/16s on them by mistake. The rear wheels should be 8.5 ins wide compared to 7.5 on the front - I believe the sizes are stamped in the alloy somewhere (eg 8.5 J 16). Tyre size should be 245/45/16. Richard

October renewal?
Hi, whoever is now in charge of renewals..... I believe I need to renew my subscription in the next week - I paid on 6th October last year. Will I be notified before it runs out? Cheers Richard :)

Hello!
Hi EeekiE As Bob said, that's MAtty's car. The front bumper is the 1999 spec one (They were made up to 2000 in Japan). They cost £290+vat from the Z centre or Mike Feeney - I just had this fitted after a little bump...... ;) Best looking front end for the ZX IMO :hyper: Richard

4 Days and counting til...
Looks good mate.... Saw a couple of Shoguns on Saturday - both dogs :mac1: Dealer reckoned there was nothing wrong with the engine - so WTF did it sound like all the bearings were clanking as if they were fecked  Thanks for the advice guys  Richard :)

tyre pressure for standard Z tyres
36psi rear and 33 front IIRC. Check the underside of the arm-rest storage box lid. They are listed there ;) Richard

She's back and she's blue!!!
Nice colour mate.... :hyper: 99 spec front is definately the best look  Richard ;)

FAO Matty
Hi Pete I've just had a 99 spec front fitted too but the garage fitted the stock number plate - it's gotta go!! :o After looking at yours and Matty's, I'll fit the smaller one I kept from my old Soop - it's exactly the right size :p BTW it is definately your O/S headlamp that needs re-fitting. The offside lower corner dips below the bumper line too. My bumper needs a bit of fettling to get it perfect - it looks like it slopes down slightly from left to right.... They definately look best on red ZXs  Richard :hyper:

Selling parts and not getting your money
I agree with this - at least try to sort out the problem first. I would happily send items out to subscribed members before the cheque arrives/clears. I like to think that fellow paid up members are all essentially honest. It's important to get all the facts first - eg did the post office actually deliver the goods?? After that then name and shame. got captured
Hi Jock This could just be a frightener, did they take your name and address etc? Were you formally cautioned or did they just say they were going to report you? Don't they have to warn you that any evidence will be passed on to the prosecution dept. to consider whether you will be charged? Also I would have thought in these circumstances you would have been breathalysed too - sounds like they weren't from traffic at all. Good luck mate Richard

Hello!
Hi EeekiE Welcome to the forum. Nice figures from your car mate - impressive for a 1.3. No wonder your supercharger needs a rebuild every 20K ;) The ZX engine is pretty unstressed with stock boost around 9psi. They are pretty tough but simply increasing the power of a 10-15 year old engine without considering some re-build work will have a negative effect on reliability. As for standing 1/4 times remember the ZX is a heavy rear wheel drive car and can fight for grip if too much power is forced through the rear wheels. The figures for stock cars are indeed fast but where the ZX really excells is the mid range overtaking speeds. Also with age the weight takes its toll on the suspension so if you want to go fast round corners this will need sorting too. Good luck with your search - there are a few for sale here at the moment, which is probably the best route if you want one that has been looked after properly. Richard :hyper:
