Silver ZX in Amersham?
Saw a silver ZX on the A413 between Amersham and Chalfont St Giles this morning. You were heading towards London, I was in the red one going towards Aylesbury. Also seen you in the Shell garage at Deep Mill a couple of times...... Anyone here? Richard :)

Oil Help Please
Wise words, Willie if the engine is in good form it shouldn't rattle anyway. Nissan recommend 10w40, so a 5w40 or 0w40 would offer the same protection when hot but be better than the 10w40 from cold. I don't like the Mobil 1 0w40 though, that always seemed thinner when I used it in my Mk3 Soop. But RS 0w40 gave no probs  Richard :)

Whoops, I forgot a couple too..... ......I had a couple of classic cars along side my every day transport. I had a 1961 Rover 100 (P4 "Auntie") which my dad handed me when he stopped driving around 1988. He bought it in 1974. I had to sell it as I didn't have the time or money to maintain it as a penniless 18 year old  I also had a series 2 (1975) Jag XJ6 4.2 from 1996 until around 2002. It was dark indigo blue with biscuit leather and loads of polished chrome. Just the sort of car the bank robbers drove in The Sweeney ;) Richard :D

Here goes..... way back in 1987 at the tender age of 17: '77 P reg Cavalier 1.6GL MkI - drove for a month until some dozy cow doing her make up whilst driving hit it when it was parked '78 S reg Cav 1.6GL Age 18: '77 R reg Cav 1.9GL sport coupe (Manta look-a-like) Twin Webber conversion, Janspeed 'zaust - fun '84 A reg Cav 1.8sri - first injection motor. great getaway car :D '86 C reg Cav 1.8sri - way better than first one which turned out to be a bit rough after I drove it a few months.... Age 19 '85 B reg Manta GTE - excellent car in it's day '89 F reg Astra 2.0GTE - only 6 monthe old, fast but handled like a sumo wrestler on roller skates. Hit a tree at 60mph (on the roof!!) trying to avoid a head on with some c*nt in an RST on my side of the road... '88 F reg Cav CDi Age 20 '89 F reg cav SRi '90 H reg Cav CDi auto Age 21 '91 J reg Scorpio 2.0 - worst car ever. Only 6 months old but of the 3 months I owned it, it spent at least 2 back with Ford being repaired as something else broke..... '91 J reg Cav CDi manwell - back to Vox again as they had been good to me. Kept this one a bit longer, swapped air filter and 'Zaust to make it a bit quicker... Age 23 '93 L reg Toyota Carina E GTi. First Jap car and never looked back - excellent saloon. 173BHP, 140mph, 0-60 in 7.5 and great handling. Kept it over three years, from 6,000 to 120,000 miles and it never went wrong. Drove like new to the day I sold it. Same clutch, zausts etc - only changed the cambelt, otherwise just routine servicing :) Age 27 '91 J reg Mk3 Supra Turbo - worthy replacement of the trusty Carina E Age 29 '93 K reg Mk3 Supra Turbo - a Jap import GT Ltd Targa in black with digital dash. Just like Knight Rider :D. Was my fave car of the lot - fast, handled good and looked cool to. I couldn't find anything I liked enough to replace it. So....... Age 31 Bought a '00 W reg Corsa Sport 1.4 as a daily driver so I could keep the Soop for fun. Couldn't resist driving the Soop daily so gave the Corsa to Julia and we sold her Micra. Age 33 Finally found a worthy replacement for "K.I.T.T." (as the Supra became known).... My UK spec 300ZX TT  Definately my best car to date. Nothing comes close to that in replacement terms now. Although I have just bought a Rav-4 to use for my 50 mile daily round trip to work, to keep the miles of the ZX (only done 76K and I want to keep it low). Now how long before I give Julia the Rav............. Richard :smw:

Replace hi-beam bulb
H1 bulb fits into a holder which must also be removed. Remove the connector and the rubber dust cover. At the bottom of the holder, below the 3 connecting prongs you will see 2 small metal spring clips. Squeeze them inward together and pull straight back and out. You then pull the bulb from the holder, pop the new one in and push the holder/bulb assembly back into the headlight until the spring clips clip firm. It's a bit fiddly but you'll get there in the end ;) I have the Osram Silverstars in my full beam and they are trully F'ing good  HTH Richard :smw:

Oil Help Please
Hi mate Engine oil choice always causes great debate here :p Personally, if the engine is in good shape, reasonable mileage and not heavily modded then a 5w40 fully synth is fine. If the engine is modded then a 5w50 would be better. 15w is too thick for winter use IMO. See stickey thread from Oilman - he is also the guy to purchase from at reasonable prices. Don't know about gear oil.... Richard

Tyre Pressures
Hi Sheppard I have the same tyre sizes as you and find it OK on the stock pressure settings for a UK car - 32 front and 34 rear IIRC..... ....plus Andy is dead right, the ride firmness should not be adjusted by altering tyre pressures as it's all down to suspension settings. These cars have quite a firm ride anyway, more noticable if you have come out of an "ordinary" car. Plus the ride will get firmer as you step up the tyre sizes - 255/40 on 17 inch rims will be a lot firmer than stock wheels on 245/45/16s. Alluminium alloy is less flexible than rubber ;) Experiment with varying pressures and see what has the most positive and secure feel, ignoring the firm ride. You don't want them too low as the tyres will flex more at high speeds, overheat and could go bang :nono: HTH Richard :)

1983 AMG Merc (funny)
What a tosser  Honestly, if the seller was giving it away for free, you can guarantee some stupid fekker will ask for two!! :D Richard ;)

Anyone ever owned one of these?
Hi Stevo Family sized car with Z-matching performance?? Try a Jaguar XJR V8. If you can stretch to the price, how about the S-Type R with the 4.0 (or 4.2?) supercharged V8 engine 390BHP... sweet  BMW M5 (latest shape) pretty good too. Richard :)

Rear Ball Joint!!!!
Hi Alan Try Mike Feeney at MJP Auto in traders section. Otherwise Courtesy in USA, but they have hiked up their shipping costs recently so Mike may be cheaper. Richard :)

Change of postcode
Post office workers??? Work shy layabouts more like  When I left school everyone, I knew who was a lazy good for nothing tosser got a job at the post office. My sister's ex was a postie and he was always off sick for one thing or another. He and his mates used to clock in for each other, then cover each other's rounds just so the bosses never knew they were off sick for weeks. He eventually got the sack (no pun intended  ), I believe, for very poor attendance. Don't get me started..... Richard :x:

Wheels, 17/18?????
Providing the rolling circumferences of the wheels/tyres was kept constant (ie by altering the tyre profiles) then it would have no effect. If you ran say 235/45/17 front and 265/35/18 rear that would match the usual combi's of 235/45/17 & 255/40/17 for 17s all round - or 235/40/18 & 265/35/18 for 18s all round. Hope that makes sense Richard ;)

Daily driver?
I use my UK spec TT auto every day. I drive about 50 miles round trip to/from work - so 250 miles a week. That uses around 55-60 litres - I always fill up the same time each week. My journey is approx 20 miles on fast single carriageway A roads, with some hard overtaking to pass lorries and dithering old gits (or just to shame BMWs ;) ),plus 5 miles round Aylesbury. not too bad for a 3000tt :D HTH Richard :smw:

Corsa's Last Race
Hi mate Glad you're OK and I too hope your girlfriend recovers quickly. Hope her dad doesn't kill you either - even though you may deserve it  No seriously, though, if you were in a ZX you may have been quick enough to beat the Saxo AND avoid the escort...... .....but in reality you could have been driving much faster when you hit the Escort and killed the pair of you. That is why insurance is so high for you young whipper-snappers. Just let the to55ers go in future - I do, even in the ZX when I know I can stuff them. It's just not worth it - most of these scrotes can't drive and will take you with them if you get drawn into a scrap. Live and learn.... BTW, losing to a Paxo......hang your head in shame :o Richard :)

WTF is this
Another one?? I've just replied to another thread on this one - It's a TR7, is it not  Why did he do it?? :slap: I'd have just burnt it for the insurance ;) Richard
-
Spot the difference
Well that's one thing to do with an old TR7 ;) Another is burn it :x: Worst of the TR series IMO Richard :D

Improving handling??
Oh yes  I had Contis on my Supra, they were OK but when I replaced them with Michellins the car felt so much better. I find the F1s even better than Mich Pilot sports - especially as the F1s are about 25% cheaper than Pilots ;) Evo mag reckoned F1s are the best high performance tyre in the world. Jap Performance fitted them to their long term project Scooby and rated them the best tyre they had used too. Good enough for me :hyper: Richard :D

HIDs for main beam?
I don't think it is worth it TBH. If you have HID dipped beams you probably have less use for the mains anyway, as the HIDs are so good. Just upgrade with decent bulbs - say Osram +50% H1s. That will be fine for all the times you'll need them. Just my opinion. Richard :smw:
