Gio Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Attn Gurus, I just had a shedload of work done (if I knew then what I know now......) This was kicked off by the knock sensor needing replacing so, as those gurus who have done it will remember, the whole top of the engine had to come off. Everything from the lower inlet manifold upwards. I realise (now) just how big a job this was but am still slightly  stunned by the size of the bill. The question is, how long do you think this lot would take? Is 24 hours reasonable? That's 24 working hours for one bloke (3 days) or two blokes working for 12 hours etc etc. Does anyone have access to Nissan book times? I had other stuff - like replacing coil pack connectors (which needed splicing) - done at the same time. To give you an idea, the parts list was: Sensor - Oxygen RH Z32 90-93 TT/NA Sensor - Oxygen LH Z32 90-93 TT/NA Sensor - Knock Z32/A32B Sub Harness - Knock Sensor Z32 Gasket - AAC/IAC Valve Z32 Inlet Manifold Gasket 300ZXTT Cam Belt, Z32 Down Pipe Exhaust Ring, Z32 Thermostat, Z32 Gasket - Plenum Z32 O-ring - Balance Tube (2 required Z32) O-ring - Balance Tube Z32 Gasket - Throttle Body Z32 Gasket - AAC/IAC Valve Z32 Gasket - EGR Plenum Z32 O-ring Injector Lower 90-92NA/90-94TT Z32 O-ring Injector Upper 90-96 Z32 Insulator - Injector Bottom 90-94 Z32TT Connector - Coilpack Z32 Sensor - Head Temperature Z32 Harness - Head Temp Z32/Z31 Harness Kit -A32B/Z32 Inj. RichardS Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Hi Gio, So did he came back from France to finish the job or did you find someone else? I'm no expert but I'd have thought someone who knew the ZX could remove and refit the plenum, manifold etc in a day. Then perhaps another day for the other bits. That must have cost you the GDP of a small South American Country  Richard :( Quote I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
Gio Posted August 30, 2004 Author Posted August 30, 2004 It's a long story... and it ain't over yet. Hence the request for info - just trying to find some facts to see if I need a legal eagle. All will be revealed if this saga ever finishes! (As the bank manager once wrote: Dear Gio, at this branch we have three accounts which are causing us some concern: yours, Mexico's and Poland's. And in that order :( Quote
Paul C Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 i'll check on Autodata times tomorrow, but it does seem a little excessive Gio :( Quote
Gio Posted August 30, 2004 Author Posted August 30, 2004 Thanks, Paul, I don't mind paying a fair whack for a fair job and even cutting a little slack but people taking the p*** gets right up my nose :) See you later Quote
Paul C Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Autodata times both parts of inlet manifold : 8.1hrs cambelt: 4.3hrs (but a some of that ime is gonna be included in the above) steering rack gaiter: 0.6hrs lambda sensor: 0.7hrs (again, gonna be easier with plenum off) there not gonna give a time for the harnesses, but 1hr is gonna be plenty! Guest andyduff Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 OUCH!!!!!!!!!! I did that AND polished a plenum in that time FFS!!!! Quote
Guest deve8uk Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Gio I dont know what they where charging. But I had a full harness, all sencors, variable timing gear, breaks and hicas done in 3 days with all new everything. cost me 900 in labour but there was a lot more than you had done there. Quote
Guest Baggins Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 24 hours is a very long time for the above precedure as Andy has said this should quite easily be done in half that time Quote
Gio Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 hmmmm verrrry interesting. Thanks guys - if any one might be interested in doing an "official" report, pm me. Just getting the facts for now..... Quote
