  1. Well we can get classic insurance now...........;) ........I guess it's a "modern classic" which should eventually attain classic status. Like a Porsche 928 (or Jag XJ-S:smash:) Richard:cool: Edit - I do actually like the XJ-S BTW.......
  2. That's true - I get several nods of approval or "thumbs ups" from Supra and GTO drivers (well they have to concede the fact that the 300zx is the best looking of them all:tongue:); I don't get much of a reaction from the 200sx drivers though...... Richard:)
  3. Hi Alex, I bought these from Luke at the Z Centre: http://www.zcentre.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=21_28_58&products_id=125 I did have judder when braking due to worn tension rod bushes. However the Nissan ones are around £45 each + vat, then you have the labour to press out the old bushes and re-fit the new ones! Plus both Luke and Mike Feeney both told be there was a long wait for decent poly bushes. So I ended up with these and they have solved the problem. That and a full 4 wheel allignment afterwards. Richard:)
  4. Given that in its day, the UK Z32 was between £36-39K depending on the year and discount available, then you are probably looking at £50-60k GT cars today. New 6 Series is indeed a good comparison, as is the Jag XK8..... Richard:cool:
  5. How about the front ball joints or front top mounts? Have you had the wheel allignment checked and adjusted? - it's very easy for a tyre-fitter monkey to get it wrong! I've just had rose jointed tension rods fitted (the old bushes were shot causing vibration whilst braking) and a full 4 wheel allignment set-up. The car is transformed - it's now so much better and the steering is spot on! Richard:cool:
  6. It was full when they delivered it to me...................... ....................I have the car for a month or so, that's how long the Merc garage recon my SLK will be in for:( Still it's costing the dumb twat (or his insurers) who rear ended me a fortune; my repairs are in the region of £10k and this E-class is over £200 per day according to the paperwork I was given:shock: That'll teach him to look where he is going:xxx: Richard
  7. I'm currently driving a '57 plate Merc E320 CDi whislt my own car is being repaired after a slight accident. I stopped at a Shell this morning to refill it with diesel, as it was down to the last 1/8th on the guage......... .......and the bloody thing took the princley sum of £96.31 until the pump shut off:eek: If it had been down to the warning light it would easly have been over £100 for a full tank. Now that's just wrong........ Richard:(
  8. Any excuse to screw more cash from us...........:(:xxx:
  9. Where's your trusty can of paint when you need it, Stella.....;) Richard:D
  10. That's like the one my mate has - also in black! It is a nice car...... Richard:cool:
  11. Firstly if you are insured fully comp it is normal for your own insurers to assess the damage and repair it or pay you the value of the car if written off, regardless of fault. If the accident is not your fault, your insurers then recover their losses from the other party's insurance company, leaving you "claim free" and your NCB intact. That way you get paid out quicker; it's a real benefit of comprehensive insurance. Your insurers will of course deduct your excess, which you recover from the other driver as an "insured loss." Secondly, if they pay you out for a total loss, then the car belongs to them as they have bought it from you. However you have a couple of choices regarding the salvage. You can say that you don't want the "remains" as you have no means of disposing of it; ask your insurers for the full value of the car and get them to take it away. They could scrap it and keep the proceeds or recover the cost of removing the wreck from the other party. Or if you want to keep the car, tell them that you reckon the scrap value is only £50, not £200 (get a written valuation from a scrap yard). HTH Richard:cool:
  12. Another car, Si.......;) I have a mate with the latest shape one as a company car and it's pretty nice. I have bought Golf GT TDis for a couple of salesmen in my company and the Seat is every bit as good IMO. Brand new I'd pick the Golf for better residual value later on, but second had it would be the Seat all the way! Richard:cool:
  13. I agree.......... .......and a nice jacket with some retaining straps whilst they sit in their little room with the very soft walls:D Bloody liberal anti car tree hugging no good commie b@stards:smash: Richard:p
  14. I know - but in my opinion I don't think there were any design flaws at the time. Such problems as working on the turbos will only materialize many years and thousands of miles later. Way after several of the cars have reached the end of their economic lives. In the manufacturers' eyes that is. It's a Nissan afterall - therefore very reliable. So why would Nissan, or any other manufacturer for that matter, care about the maintenance of a car 15 years and 150k miles plus in the future. Look at any other 15 year old junior supercar and tell me they were any better designed than a 300zx;) Richard:D
  15. Interesting.......... ........but I find the best time to fill up is when the little needle on my dash points ever closer to that letter "E" or when the little "petrol pump" light comes on !!! Richard;)
  16. Exactly! Too much crap on Fleabay for £1500 at the mo. Once all the junk has been thrashed to oblivion, wrapped around trees or fallen apart then the few enthusiast owned/maintained good examples left will fetch a premium. Give it a go, but be prepared to drop to £5-6k (no lower:nono:) if necessary. That's still a good price in today's market and a step in the right direction.... Good luck mate - it's a shame you're considering selling up though, your's is a fine example. Richard:)
  17. I actually think that for a car concieved at the end of he 1980s and introduced here (virtually) in 1990, Nissan got the Z32 pretty much spot on. I have driven newer, more expensive sporting pedigree (including the 350z) back to back with a 300zx, all of which shows just how cleverly concieved the Z32 was. My daily driver is a 2 year old Merc SLK350 which is just as quick as my ZX (possibly quicker 0-60), it has covered less than 30k miles and with the sports suspension pack, handles very well. But driving a 17 year old, 91k mile 300zx with most of the original components still in situ straight afterwards is no let down. Surely a testament to how good the Z32 was/is? Richard;)
  18. What he said........... .....and as for filters - Nissan OEM are the best. Get them from your local dealer or from Mike at MJP in the trader's section. Richard:)
  19. TBH all this chat from diesel owners about torque being king on the road...... .......b0ll0x!! I am driving a new Merc E320 CDi whilst my SLK is being fixed. Now it's a nice car - 230-ish BHP and tons of torque but can it compare to my 300zx or SLK350? Can it feck!! OK it's a nice smooth power delivery but there's no "kick" or "head thrown into the head rest" I get with my own cars. Torque may be good for acceleration but torque is really best only when matched with an equally high BHP figure! I have to plan overtaking much more in advance than I would with my own cars too........... I tried it flat out from a standing start on an up hill stretch of track I know well; both the ZX and SLK can hit 120 by the apex no problem whilst the E320 managed a dismal 90-ish:p Plus on a round trip to Dorset this weekend it only averaged 34mpg; I'd still have got 30mpg from my SLK 3.5 litre petrol (the ZX would have been much worse though - but more fun). No, I'll stick with petrol thank you very much:bow: Richard:cool:
  20. Some great pic there........ ......especially Funky Si's and Andrew G's cars:bow::bow: It's a shame I could not make it - last minute weekend break;) Richard:cool:
  21. I think diesel cars will still remain the choice for company fleets / company car drivers for the forseeable future. The lower quoted emissions means that company car income tax on diesels is much lower than their petrol equivalents. The drivers do not have to pay for their fuel so at present will not care about the higher cost of diesel. Perversely I reckon this is why diesel is more expensive now - aren't around 50% of new cars sold diesel now - mainly due to company fleets? Hence this robbing b@stard government has kept the tax higher on diesel despite the recent decrease in the actual price of diesel; simply to earn more revenue from the increased sales of the dirty black fuel.......:x: Richard:(
  22. LOL :rofl: And I've been drinking Peroni whilst cooking. Then we shared a bottle of Gallo's Turning Leaf Chardonnay with the chicken in tomato & marscapone [spelling] sauce and pasta that I knocked up for dinner...... .........and another Peroni is going down well just about now....:D Cheers everyone!! Richard:nana2:
  23. That's why we have a V6 in the Z32...... ....according to the "enthusiast's companion" Nissan thought about a V8 back then but decided "......it could become profligate in the future......" And Petrol back in 1990 was a mere fraction of the price we are paying today:cry: Richard:slap:
  24. I have just bought a couple of new ones as company cars for 2 salesmen at work; they are very impressive for a 140bhp diesel - they are now called the "GT Sport" Low emissions too at 145g/km - hence low road fund licence and company car tax. Apparently there is also a 170bhp version; I haven't tried that one though! Richard:)
