  1. R12 is indeed illegal - however there is a replacement drop-in gas that has the same properties (so you do not have to convert to the new R134 gas). JeffTT uses a specialist who can do this; it is a bit more expensive than regassing a newer car with the R134 gas, but it works perfectly in older cars like the ZX. I think it was about £80 for the regas.... He did mine 3 years ago and the a/c is ice cold. Not quite as good as my Merc's system, but it works better than that in Julia's 2006 Rav!! 2. Better watch this guy - next stop, world domination......:shifty: Nice work though Gaz; the club needs more people like you mate!!! Richard:thumbup1:
  3. LOL - yes Mikey!! I take the credit for spotting that one..... .....nothing gets past me mate!! Richard:shifty:
  4. LOL - take it easy Mikey...... .....or should I say Ian. Hell I don't know anymore...... I'll get me jacket. Smoking jacket that is, Grrrrrr - see what you've done???
  5. Ian mate - is that really you or has Mikey been messing with your posts again..............:shifty::laugh:
  6. If it's not working now then you've nothing to lose mate!! As mine works (thanks to Jeff) perfectly, it's staying.... .....as long as the car doesn't overheat then there's no reason for me to either!!! Richard:clown:
  7. Anything to improve the cooling on a ZX is good...... ......but with the current hot weather we've been having, you want to remove the a/c? Not me - I think I'll be keeping mine as I would never have a car without it again!! Richard:blush:
  8. Many happy returns James!! Richard:thumbup1:
  9. Happy birthday mate! Richard:thumbup1:
  10. Brilliant Dean - and good luck in Sherbie mate!! Richard:thumbup1:
  11. I have a daft question for you - whilst you have pressed the "auto" button, you are not using the "econ" mode are you? As "econ" will operate the blowers but without the a/c system being engaged. Also, with the car idling, switch off the system for a minute or so; then when you turn it back on, does the idle speed rise? It should do as the compressor unit clutch engages. Otherwise as Voddy says, you could just need a re-gas. Make sure you find someone who can do it with the R12 replacement gas though - JeffTT canget this done for you mate! Richard:thumbup1:
  12. LOL - it is easy to see why isn't it Gary! I do find that the ZX is also easy to potter around in, but give me an empty, clear, dry motorway early on a Sunday morning and the ZX just does what it does best...... Guns N Roses on the stereo doesn't help much either!!! Richard:rockon:
  13. It's great - and it's set to last over the weekend. So I will definitely be taking the ZX out on Sunday; I think a run down to Bath or perhaps Stourhead is on the cards..... Richard:thumbup1:
