New membership secretary
I would like to inform the membership that owing to personal and work committments, ck300z (Chris Keig-Wells) has stood down from the position of the club's membership secretary. The Committee has given its full backing for Gary Wilson to take on this role within the club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris for all he has done in this department (he will be missed) and congratulate Gary on his new position. Please now direct all your memership pack requests to Gary - as he will be working with Chris over the next few days to clear the backlog. Gary will also continue in office as head moderator until JAE, wherein we will vote in a new head mod thereafter. Welcome Gary - on behalf of The Committee, I'm sure you will do a great job! A Beautiful Datsun.
Whilst I had my own car when I was 17, it wasn't always reliable. So to get to work I sometimes borrowed the old Fiat 127 that my dad bought for my mum in the hope she might learn to drive (she never did). This thing was white - apart from the rust (lots of rust) - had a 903cc engine and more importantly, as I discovered when approaching a roundabout at 70mph..... No brakes!!! Once I got over the initial shock, I had no choice but to use 2nd gear!!! Boy you should have heard it revving as I came to a halt.... I also borrowed the 1961 Rover 100 we still owned then; one of these http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%3Fei%3DUTF-8%26p%3Drover%2Bp4%2B100&w=160&h=124&imgurl=www.bing.com%2Fimages%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Drover%2Bp4%2B100%23focal%3D0719fc713b1f00524fa05a56935abd4e%26furl%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252ffarm3.staticflickr.com%252f2611%252f3776165568_0176938905_z.jpg&size=&name=search&rcurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bing.com%2Fimages%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Drover%2Bp4%2B100%23focal%3D0719fc713b1f00524fa05a56935abd4e%26furl%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252ffarm3.staticflickr.com%252f2611%252f3776165568_0176938905_z.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bing.com%2Fimages%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Drover%2Bp4%2B100%23focal%3D0719fc713b1f00524fa05a56935abd4e%26furl%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252ffarm3.staticflickr.com%252f2611%252f3776165568_0176938905_z.jpg&p=rover+p4+100&type=&no=1&tt=115&oid=http%3A%2F%2Fts3.mm.bing.net%2Fimages%2Fthumbnail.aspx%3Fq%3D4814740499465506%26id%3D280cbab8821b29ec9d0e593137df2b09&tit=Rover+P4+100+%7C+Flickr+-+Photo+Sharing%21&sigr=155q9muo6&sigi=14uqb3efq&sigb=11m3itm3m&fr=sfp although not quite as good condition! Community Speedwatch Volunteers
Agree 100% Bri..... .....these are just local busybodies with nothing better to do IMO. The road opposite mine is sometimes used as a cut-through; although you can't speed along it as it has no pavements, several driveways opening onto it and is one constant S-bend. Oh and the road surface is so bad that it shakes your fillings out everytime. Now some arsey locals have taken to hanging out there with speed guns - because if they can prove that x number of drivers flout the speed limit, they can have speed humps installed. Great!! I don't use this road as a cut-through, I use it because I live in the next road; and I don't want fooking speed humps as I have 2 sports cars...... Richard:no:

i dont get insurance
You said it mate - the roads are full of Mondeos, Vectras etc all having accidents; but a rare car like the 300zx is not commonly involved in smashes, thefts etc so presents a lower risk. Plus many 300zxs are owned by careful club members who cherish their cars - unlike the company car driver in his Mondeo or Passat or the like; who couldn't care less about the car and hits anything/everything!!! Do it Allan - you've got the sensible family wagon for Shell...... Richard:thumbup1: PS disclaimer - Richard denies all responsibility for leading Allan astray.......:tongue_smilie:

SVM GTR for sale...
LOL - agreed.... And I don't like it myself - it's a lairy in your face racer and I could think (read, dream:surrender:) of better things to spend £260k on!! Richard:thumbup1:

Manual--Auto. Price difference????
I'd like to think that is the case too - and when immaculate examples are fewer and far between than now, then I doubt the auto/manual thing will make a difference....... .....but Dave makes a good point there! Thing is, it is funny how the market forces and desirability factor changes as a car gets older and more affordable. I mean, when these cars were new the auto cost more as an optional extra. And then on the second hand market for the first few years, the auto would have commanded the premium as key buyers were affluent, older professional folk who would no doubt prefer the auto; especially in a GT car. Now the 300zx is old and more appealing/affordable to younger buyers, the manual has become more desirable. You see the same with modern executive GTs and sports cars today - anyone buying a nearly new Merc or BMW (even the sports cars) might as well burn their cash as buy a manual. You'd never sell it for real money again whilst it is new and still has a potentially decent residual - but the autos command a premium and sell more easily. No-one in that market now wants the manual..... Fast forward 10+ years when said Merc/BMW etc is selling for around 3-4K and in reach of younger buyers, then the manual will become as desirable, if not more! Richard:balloon:

Timing belt change interval.
There are some who say 60k miles or 5 years; whichever is first...... .....and at 5 years ago, it's likely you should have it done again soon. Rubber can deteriorate over time so best be safe than sorry. A new cambelt is cheaper than a new engine!! Give Jeff a call and ask what he would advise - I'd go with his opinion as he's changed more ZX cam belts than anyone! Richard:thumbup1:

Another rep for Vodkashots ;)

pics from phone to pc or lappy
That's exactly what I do as well - I salvaged the hard drive from my old laptop and (thanks to advice from Voddy) bought a hard drive caddy off Ebay for less than a tenner. Works great and stores shed loads of photos!! Richard:thumbup1:

Who actually made it to Japfest.....?
That's what I'll be doing next time then...... .....but I am pleased that the day was a success and, following on from Gary's thread in National Events, a big thanks to Marco and Steve from the Zclub for organising it!! ...Nice tip Dave; perhaps I should have tried that instead of heading back east - I still had nothing to lose at that point...!! I still feel gutted that I missed it as I had been looking forward to the show. Richard:balloon:
