  1. Happy birthday for yesterday mate! Richard:rockon:
  2. A belated happy birthday mate! Richard:thumbup1:
  3. Personally, if it's working, then I'd keep it! It won't have much effect on the car's future value - that will remain down to condition - but for me, having the a/c is all part of the "GT car experience" and I'd never want to own a car without it. I have a daily driver too, but I do use my ZX to go on holiday or for sunny Sunday outings and TBH taking the targas out just makes me feel too hot on warm summer days - so they are no substitute for the a/c. Plus on a long motorway trip, having the targas out makes things too noisy and unpleasant once you get up to "certain" speeds..... ......I'm the same with my SLK - sure, having the roof down in great, but when the temperature reaches 26 or above, it's more comfortable to put the roof back up and bask in the coldness of the a/c. Just my opinion though - if you're wanting a track car then remove it; but if you use it on the road for any length of time, keep the a/c. Richard:thumbup1:
  4. Sorry to hear you're packing in the polishing business Ian - I hope all's well with you mate, Richard:)
  5. I had mine back in March I think; and the tester had me sit in the car to operate brakes, lights etc as his assistant was busy.... ......and he didn't even give a mention to the HIDs even though they were plainly obvious by the way they come on. And he never checked that the headlight washers worked either (which they don't - LOL)!! Richard:thumbup1:
  6. Many happy returns Harry - have a great day mate!!! Richard:thumbup1:
  7. Happy birthday mate!! Richard:thumbup1:
  8. Love the pics mate - I remember them the first time round too.....:thumbup1:
  9. Exactly Jane - I doubt there's much wrong with it at all..... .....and you can always do a Homer and pop some black tape over that offending light:biggrin: Richard:thumbup1:
  10. NO!!!! just call or PM me as I'd have it off of you like a shot; cash waiting....!!! You'd have certainly sold yourself short at that price mate; but congratulations on your sale given the current climate for thirsty 3.0 litre V6 cars. I'm sorry you decided to sell up but understand fully why you did. I hope you stick around on the forum though.... Richard:thumbup1:
  11. Hi Jane, there's always the chance it could be something more simple like a software upgrade being requried...... .....Julia's previous Rav-4 had the engine management light persistently coming on; like your car there were no running issues whatsoever. I initially took it to a local garage (Bosch service centre) and their diagnostics kept pointing to the 02 sensors - which they quoted at £250 each BTW. I was not convinced and bit the bullet and took it to a main dealer. They put it on their own diagnostic thingy and simply did a software upgrade which cured the problem totally - for £50 plus VAT!!! Had I believed the Bosch cowboys, I'd have spent either £250 or £500 on 1 or 2 02 sensors end still had the same problem..... I have since been advised by more than one garage that the "universal" diagnostic machines in some non-OEM garages are not always accurate at pin-pointing faults with some Japanese cars. In fact my current local (and trusted) garage has told me he'd rather not attempt to run a diagnostic on the Rav as a main dealer will be better at finding the fault! In your case though, you did go to a main stealer so that kills my theory..... .....but I'd definitely go to another specialist for a second opinion before spending big bucks. A Lexus should not need a new cat even at 130k+ miles! Good luck, Richard:thumbup1:
  12. Back on topic, in principle a modern BMW top line diesel engine conversion makes a sound argument as (when remapped) can give more power and torque than the stock VG30DETT. But in principle, communism works...... .....in reality it just is not worth the cost of the engine, running gear and associated labour to fit the damn thing into a 300zx. Not to mention the increased insurance premiums because you have made a highly unusual modification to the ZX........ Best bet (if you want a fast and efficient diesel) is to buy said BMW 335 or 535 diesel car as a daily driver and keep the 300zx on a classic policy as a weekend fun car. You don't buy a 20 year old 3.0 twin turbo for its fuel economy - but for the thrill of owning something different, fun and non-conformist. Honestly, you would not buy a 1962 E-type Jag or Aston DB5 and drop in a modern diesel engine "for economy" so why do it with a 300zx....??? Richard:biggrin:
  13. Not to me you didn't mate........:shifty: Yup - please do just that; we can check, but there will be prizes of Halfords vouchers for those who came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the last two years' competitions. At least I think it's just the last 2 years outstanding.........! And the prize status remains the same for this year's competition - so those involved should not forget to get their predictions in this evening for the weekend's race!! Interesting (and important) point as ever Mr Burns! Although it's my understanding that we do not need a licence if we are giving the food away.......:euro: Richard:thumbup1:
  14. Another great informative post; thanks Jeff...... ......and a warning for us all!! Richard:thumbup1:
  15. Welcome to the club Ozzie...... ....and just as my learned friend says, you should find a nice 300zx for £3k. Good luck in your search!! Richard:thumbup1:
  16. Many happy returns mate - wherever you are now my friend!! Richard:thumbup1:
  17. LOL - agreed Allan..... Have some rep for that matey!!
  18. I would also like to add a big thanks to Mark for going along to see Chris. I have heard various reasons as to why Chris has not been forthcoming with goods etc; and whilst I'm not going to go into the reasons bandied about, I still believe that some kind of contact from Chris would have been far more appreciated than no word at all. That aside, it appears that Mark's visit has prompted some action so me and the rest of the committee are watching with interest as to what happens next. As Gaz says, Chris's current ban ends this week so he has the opportunity to come online and set the record straight himself; and for the good of the ZX community, I hope that he does and no further action will be required from us. Richard
  19. Well that is about as long as Steams wears his pants for...... ....Oops, there I go again. Hell I'm the soul of indiscretion today... Still, it seems a no brainer on the new car though Jane - a wise decision I reckon!! Richard:biggrin:
  20. Happy birthday Stuart! Richard:thumbup1:
  21. A belated happy birthday mate!! Richard:thumbup1:
  22. Bloody hell Jane - you change your cars like some folk change their pants......LOL But I understand why you did it; the GS was a nice car but I reckon the IS will certainly be better for you to run whilst studying. And like most Lexi (assuming that is the correct plural term) is should prove reliable beyond expectations.... Good luck with your new purchase, I hope it serves you well! Richard:thumbup1:
  23. I love the 99-spec front end too; it's the best front end upgrade for a 300zx IMO..... ....but I like the original one also and a Stillen Type III extension is all the 89-spec needs to inprove it.....:shifty: It's looking good though Daz; much better I reckon. So have you swapped the reg number over from your 'vert? Richard:thumbup1:
  24. Better late than never mate!! Welcome Steve; good to have you posting....:thumbup1: As for your engine woes, it sounds like you might be better off getting your car up to Zedworld. If it is bad, then the best option might actually be a straight engine swap. Be warned that a lot of mechanics with no 300zx experience might be quicker to condem the engine, as they won't know exactly what is wrong with it. Whereas Jeff and co will only replace the engine if all other hope is lost. Good luck, Richard:thumbup1:
