Bye bye tax disk!
LOL - Richbrook will go bust in 2014 then..... Although I have to admit, I have the official Mercedes Owners' Club round metal disc holder in my SLK.....

Bye bye tax disk!
Great idea Lee.... Otherwise I agree that having no more disc cluttering up the window is good; but on a classic car (even a ZX) I think there is something comforting (nostalgic, if you will) about retaining it for appearance sake. So I will certainly endorse Lee's idea of a commemorative 25th anniversary club disc for the windscreen:thumbup: I also agree with dropping the front number plate for aesthetic reasons; and as for colour, I too would like to see the yellow rear one changed. Personally I like the old "silver on black" type of plate - albeit a more modern version of it!! Richard:cool:

Hello!!! :) I may be going to the dark side :/
Welcome back Daz - and how about offering £590, then spending the remaining £10 on re-subbing...... Then you can edit your posts.... And as for my opinion on the car; you don't want to hear it mate.... Just go and scrub yourself down with a brillo pad and some Dettol for even thinking about it... Richard:biggrin:

Also... whilst I`m on :)
Yes and yes..... As I found out the other week, series 2 cars still had the series 1 PTU - which gave up the ghost and left me stranded on a busy dual carriageway waiting for the RAC!!! Picture courtesy of AndrewG.... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?173906-I-m-not-used-to-this&p=1784918&viewfull=1#post1784918 Richard:cool:

never been so fu#@$ing angry!!!!
Really sorry to hear that Adam.... Life has a way of dropping shit on you from time to time; but sometimes it can be just the opposite. Look on the bright side, 2013 is almost over - so good luck in getting things sorted and here's to 2014 being a better year all round:clover: Richard:)

Sorn'd
I have heard they make a difference; although they would not be for my Z - rather for my SLK. So far the only 245/35/18 winter tyres I can find are Pirelli Sottozeros at £300 each!!! There are plenty of 225/40/18s available for the front though. No good on a powerful RWD car..... Richard:death:

Sorn'd
Yup - that's what I was getting at.......

Sorn'd
Or Sodium Chloride...... I have actually thought about buying winter tyres for the DD this year myself - but gave up when hardly anywhere had the right size for the rear. I don't se why, 245/35/18 is not an uncommon size...??? Richard:cool:

Sorn'd
I have just returned from a weekend in York - and I have always thought that the standard of driving in North Yorks is probably the best in the country; but now I also believe they have the best maintained roads as well....... Try Buckinghamshire as well Si.... Despite generally being one of the most affluent areas of the country, the roads are shite here!!! Richard:nono:

works Christmas parties
Enjoy it folks, whatever you are doing.......

Sorn'd
I have heard this also - plus the increasing number of pot-holed roads we have to drive over does not help either....... Richard

Crankshaft oil seal
Yup - what he said.... .....Whilst you are only seeing a small amount of oil on your drive, you don't know how much of it is being thrown around inside the bell-housing as the engine spins!! And regarding oil loss, do remember that the ZX has a relatively small (IMO) sump capacity for its engine size - so you certainly do not want to risk it running low on oil:wink: Richard:cool:

Hello!
Welcome to the club Matt..... And as for a recommendation of someone nearer to you, to fix you ZX, you're still going to have to travel a bit. As Zedworld is too far away, then I'd suggest Jimmer - he's another ZX guru and trades as "Powerzed" in the Bristol area. Still a way from Sussex, but not nearly as far as Birmingham!!! What seems to be the problem, perhaps another member local to you could lend you a hand in taking a look.....? Richard:thumbup:
-
thank you 300zx.co.uk
Nice one Luther - that is what the club is all about!! We do have a bunch of helpful, knowledgeable and resourceful folk on here, always willing to lend a hand to another ZX owner. It's nice to hear such positive feedback from our members.... I am pleased you have your car fixed - so now you can get on with enjoying it mate!! Richard:thumbup:

Show us yer Decs....
And don't forget, you ZX lights up like a Christmas tree......

Help wiring front fogs
To add another factor in regarding the legality of what can or cannot illuminate with main beams..... There are 2 generally accepted "types" of auxiliary front lights - fog lamps and driving lamps. Fog lamps are exactly what they say on the tin - additional lights for use in restricted vision. Fog lamps are designed to shine a beam downwards "under" the fog so as not to reflect back off the fog, thus impeding the driver's vision. Fog lamps should illuminate with either side lights or (more usually) dipped headlights. Whether or not they extinguish when you switch to main beam is (I believe) optional. On the Vauxhalls I owned in the 1980s and 1990s, the fogs (OEM fitment) went out when I switched to main beam - after all, main beam is useless in fog as you just get a thick white cloud reflected back at you!! On the newer cars (certainly the Mercs) I have owned more recently, the front fogs remain on when I switch to main beam.... Driving lamps are additional lights to supplement the main beams only - think rally cars; or on the road, the Ford RS Turbo, XR3i and XR2 of the 1980s. Driving lamps may be in the same position on the car as fog lamps, but they do not shine downwards - they aim ahead to light up more of the road. Hence they can only be used with main beam and not operate separately.... Which is why on some modern (especially German) cars, there are integrated driving lights inside the head lamps. I have them on the SLK - it has Bi-Xenon headlamps; where the HID projector functions for both dipped and main beam (the HID part "shifts" upwards when switching to main); but there are also a pair of halogen H7 lamps which come on in addition to the xenons when switching to main. And when "flashing" the headlamps with the dipped beam off, only the halogen driving lights operate.... So there should be nothing to stop you wiring up your fog lamps to operate with your main beam - I am not so sure as to whether you could still use them as "fog" lamps on their own as well though..... New rare rear light covers
The registration of the silver Yaris (02 or 03 plate?) in the back-ground perhaps... Whilst I too dislike the light covers in Ian's scrap car (and totally agree with Si's Montego comment:lol:) they don't actually look too bad when you have the whole set. Plus I think they work better with the colour of Alan's car - I'd still not have them myself though; it dates the car firmly in the 1980s when (although launched in 1989) the Z32 was certainly more for the 1990s. And as you're scrapping the car Ian, it would be nice if you could sell that registration plate too......!! Richard:cool:

Show us yer Decs....
Nope - not until at least 2 weeks before......

Happy birthday Gary Wilson....
Yeah - all his fault.....:shifty: I reckon we should have a "holiday calendar" like work-places do - and not allow more than 2 mods/committee to be away at the same time. That'll stop it happening again; I told you all it was a mistake for you, me and Graham to be off all at the same time.... Richard:tongue:

Who's called Dave?
And to add, we also have quite a few Ians as well.......

Who's called Dave?
LOL...... .....And it does seem that Dave is the most commonly given name on here....!!! Richard:lol:

watching motoway cops last night supra with role cage
I don't doubt the merits of the roll cage for saving one's life - but for me, I'd leave roll cages to track cars; where you are more likely to roll the car.... .....Also check with your insurance company before fitting one mate; I seem to remember in the old days, insurers would heavily load the premium if a roll cage was fitted! Richard:cool:

Howdo all
Welcome to the club mate!! Richard:thumbup:

What did you do to your zed today?
Indeed - and a great idea for those who might only use their ZX once or twice a month...
-
Start of rear tail mod.
LOL - that's just what I was thinking too...... Made me smile, did that picture... Look forward to seeing the end results (of the car) though mate!! Richard:cool:
