stagea classic policy?
Damn bad luck there mate...... Was it on a "national speed limit" road by chance? I guess you already know that in a Transit the limits are actually 10mph below those for a car - IE 50mph on a single and 60mph on a dual carriageway when driving any non-car derived van!

mpg improvement
Forget how many miles you get to £20...... ....The best way to check "real" mpg is to brim the tank to the max, drive for a fair while (like until in the red) and then re-fill once more. You know exactly how much fuel you have used (rather than guessing how far that £20 got you); so you are in a better position to calculate true mpg based on actual usage! And kudos to Art for getting 35mpg from a 300zx! Did you drive everywhere at 56mph - or switch off the engine to coast down-hill:wink: I struggle to achieve that in my DD - let alone in a 20 year old 3.0 twin turbo nutter dinosaur; wherein the best I have managed is about 23mpg.... And around here, unleaded is now circa £1.12 per litre..... Richard:cool:

New daily driver?
Not at all...... ......Whilst on TG TV and in Evo mag, they always bang on about "proper manual" gearboxes - as to most people on here to be honest - my answer is "Really.....???" In today's traffic conditions, forget it!! In fact in a recent article in TG magazine, Mr Petrol Head (JC) himself touched on my own thoughts - that a manual is fine on the track; but on British roads in this day and age, a manual 'box is an analogue relic in a digital world. Seriously; for a weekend toy or a track-day weapon; fine - have a manual. But in the real world, in a modern car, in today's traffic conditions - stick with the auto; but be sure to have the manual over-ride with paddle shift. Not to mention that in modern, semi-high and high performance German machinery; the auto versions are nearly always faster, more economical and have lower emissions (thus lower road tax) than their manual counterparts....

New daily driver?
Hey Mandy, Shame you have to part with the MX5 - but to (almost) echo Si's comments; stick with the A3 / Golf / Leon format and you'll not be disappointed. Like you, I'd also prefer a petrol; but the VAG 2.0 diesel in those cars is a peach (for a diesel) and mated to the DSG 'box, either version would be a worthy contender. Good luck in your search.... Help engine oil all over drive way!!
LOL - might work..... depending on the alcohol content...

Help engine oil all over drive way!!
Pour some meths or paraffin on the oil stain; leave it to soak for a bit and then scrub hard with neat car shampoo or washer-fluid..... ....It worked on my garage floor!!

H3C lights, wont work.
Yup; Graham is right - assuming you have a J-spec car; because the body of the bulb-holder will not otherwise be earthed unless you do the above modification.

stagea classic policy?
Depending on the car's age, some insurers might do it - although be careful about using a "classic insured" car as a daily driver!! I believe most classic insurers would expect you to have another car for daily use on a regular policy..... ....With the motor insurance database, it is easy for them to check now. They probably won't though - unless you ever have to make a claim....:nono:

Hello from Hemel
Hi and welcome Derek..... And as for the auto-manual debate; unless you specifically 100% want a manual, just buy the best condition 300zx available, that you can lay your hands on! I'm not a million miles from you, so if you do need anyone to come and check out a Zed with you, feel free to ask.... Although I am not around for a few days over the festive period.... Richard:cool:

The Great Southern joint-area 300zx Christmas party! (Dec 14th - PM)
it is a real shame this had to be cancelled - but I can understand why.... ...In fact I went onto the "maybe" list myself yesterday as I seem to have twisted something in my lower back whilst improperly lifting a large/heavy box the other day. It's getting better, quite quickly to be fair, but I would seriously have to think about sitting in the car for 1 - 1.5 hours each way. I don't want to be laid up for Christmas!! But with the potential for bad weather - and a lot of people not using their Zeds this time of year - any event planned for December is always going to be subject to last minute cancellation. There will indeed be more events planned in this region for next year; with Simon and Steve on the case as REOs it's a given... Richard:clover:

Thinking of a change of colour!
I like that..... ....Otherwise the best grey out there IMO is Mercedes Palladium Silver. My previous car was that colour and, when covered in many, many coats of wax, it always looked shiny and never showed up the dirt; no matter how mucky it was. Shame I could not find a new one in the same colour when I was looking......
