New Speed Cameras
I read Si's link in the first quote and all that grabbed my attention was this paragraph.... The cameras will be deployed along stretches of "smart motorways" to enforce variable speed limits when the hard shoulder is used as an additional lane at peak times. Nothing there about the cameras staying on outside of variable limits - or where the hard shoulder is not used as an additional lane. Or whether they are enforcing the limits with no tollerances.... .....Sure the technology is there; but are we not over-reacting? I mean, what better way to get people to slow down than make them believe the cameras are active 24/7; irrespective of whether a lower limit is imposed or not!! I stand by my earlier comments - I know (100% genuine cases - not hearsay) of a few people being flashed on the northern stretch of the M25, driving at over 90mph when the limit was not reduced from 70mph, who have not received an NIP. And those incidences were all over the last 4-6 weeks.... So, my question, who has or knows personally of anyone who received an NIP for exceeding 70mph - by anything from 2mph upwards - on the M25 et al, on the new "smart" motorways; by these HADECS cameras as per the theme of this thread. I shall disregard those so called "news" stories - I want to hear if you or anyone in your immediate circle has been prosecuted. And I repeat, I mean only where no lower limit (IE the normal 70mph applied) prevailed. Just playing devil's advocate - hard facts only; no newspaper headlines, internet gossip, etc.... And the sweeping statement that "x hundred drivers caught" is of no relevance when the article does not specify exactly how fast (on average even) these motorists were driving; or stating what the prevailing limit(s) were at the time - since they could all have been snapped exceeding a 50mph limit:wink:

Waste of a bloody day
Sorry to hear that Graham..... ......But at least you have come to a firm decision and I look forward to seeing the one Zed into which your efforts will be concentrated henceforth!! Richard:clover:

What did you do to your zed today?
Today - nothing - but yesterday, I taxed the Zed for another year early in the morning; and then took it for a little spin to the RHS Gardens at Wisley...... It was Julia's 40th birthday and that's where she wanted to go for the day. We left there with the petrol light flicking on - and me, being me, ignored it. Came off the M40 at Beaconsfield and did I turn into the services? Did I f**k - not when there's a BP a few miles the other side of Beaconsfield where fuel is cheaper. Scraped up to the pump - just, as it would seem, since I squeezed exactly 70 litres into the tank!!! Then (long story), as we're soon to replace Julia's car and I think we should go auto - to give her more experience at driving an auto, let her drive home. She did good actually - even going as far as booting it a couple of times to see off (ahem) lesser cars:rofl: Richard:cool:

Jans Zed written off
Sorry to hear that indeed Tony - and as everyone else has said; it could have turned out a lot worse for you!! It is real shame to see such a fine Zed lost, but at least you walked away - and you still have your TT to enjoy. I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery from your aches and pains....:clover: Richard:sad:

Nice car Josh - good luck with your new purchase mate...... .....BTW, that van in the background - at a glance, it looks like the boot on your new toy has been "extended" somewhat...

Members / Reg Users Banlog
dkboro121 ~ Issued with a permanent ban with loss of all benefits. Following on from Gary's post above, the committee has reviewed Danny's ban for questionable trading practices and, since this is not the first time he has been banned for the same behaviour, we have decided that his present 7 day ban be extended permanently. We also took into consideration the question of "back-door" trading activities; which are unfair to our subscribed traders and - as we have seen many times - often do not work out in the best interests of our members either. If anybody still has outstanding deals with dkboro121, please contact a committee member. We can always get in touch with him for you; or pass your contact details on to him (with your permission) in effort to help you resolve the issue(s). Richard

What grade oil
Ahh right..... Not that you'll know for sure, but most decent garages nowadays would (or should) check up on the specs before doing an oil change. But if in doubt, then a drain and refill is a minor cost when compared to a new engine.....

New Speed Cameras
......:whistling::wink: PMSL.....:rofl:

What grade oil
Either of the above.... Nissan recommended a 10w40 semi synth - something like Castrol Magnatec will be just fine. But if you want to go for a fully synth, then any top branded 5w40 is up to the task! My question, if it was changed in December, why do it again now? Leave it alone for 4000-5000 miles; or 6 months.... Richard:cool:

New Speed Cameras
Yes indeed - speeding is an "absolute" offence..... .....And that is also a good point. Is speeding always dangerous? And the answer "yes, because it's against the law" is not always right.... ....Sure, anyone driving at 37mph past a school on a wet, dark Monday morning deserves having the book thrown at them. But 100mph+ on a clear, dry, empty motorway......? Be honest - and I don't mean typing it on an open internet forum - but admit it to yourselves; how many here have done that (and higher) on the public road, safely, when the opportunity arose? Speed itself does not kill; it's inappropriate speed for the prevailing conditions that contributes to accidents. If high speeds are so dangerous, why are there still unrestricted sections of German autobahns? We, here, all know this in our hearts; but the "speed kills" brigade has gotten to many a driver nowadays. That, along with many people having 6 points plus on their licences - oh, and those brainwashed into reducing their carbon footprint or saving fuel; has brought out a hitherto latent sanctimony in a vast number of drivers, who [now] never exceed 67mph.... Not to mention the domino effect of high-profile stories in the press and on the 'web about speed cameras on every motorway; snapping anyone and everyone driving at 72mph. As Dan says, most people on the motorway exceed 70mph as and when it's safe to do so. And whilst these "stealth" cameras might capture all such hardened criminals, are NIPs REALLY issued to each and every one? I doubt it - there are still ACPO guidelines; and many forces also [loosely] accept the "85th percentile" rule, where the safest speed on any road is deemed that at which 85% of the traffic travels along it.... I agree, not an exact science or permitted margin of error - but then again, no more or less credible than stories in the press about each and every driver caught at 72mph on the M25 being prosecuted....!! There are indeed more cameras; meaning more chances of getting caught. But drive sensibly, safely, observing the prevailing conditions (and keep an eye out for the odd stealthy speed trap); and you'll reduce the chance of getting a ticket. Mind how you go....

New Speed Cameras
There are (allegedly) Hadecs3 cameras on the northern section of the M25 in Herts/Essex too - where the variable limit ends (to the east of South Mims) and the hard shoulder has been removed. I know of several people (one very well...) who have been flashed at circa 90mph yet received no NIP.....

Sheered Bolt
Yup - that's why I'd not bother trying....
-
Sheered Bolt
Personally I'd leave it mate - the other 2 bolts will hold it in place well enough..... ....The only thing I can think of, is some time ago, somewhere, I remember seeing screws/bolts which tighten anti-clockwise. You drill the offending bold with a small hole, screw in the extractor and undo.... Still involves drilling though...

Poor start up
I think you're right Noel - the UK spec Mk4 Soops came with 326bhp and bigger, better brakes; not to mention better equipment levels by miles....
-
Exhaust
Me too.....
-
Poor start up
Much has already been said as above; but my comments: Bold 1 - yes; that is normal. The car is set to remain in "safety boost" until up to temperature, only when warmed up does it permit full boost. Bold 2 - no; just as Noz says..... There is very, very little difference between UK and J-spec when it comes to engines, turbos etc. As ever, that is just another myth - think about it; why would manufacturers make a single car so different across the world? It would cost them £billions to homologate different versions of the same car for several different markets! The only differences in turbos is between auto and manual versions - those on the automatic cars spool up (slightly) quicker, so as to reduce any drop in performance caused by the reactions of the auto 'box....
