  1. Yup - classic cars are a tax-free investment! Because a car - even a classic car - is deemed a "wasting asset" by HMRC, you can make a large profit on selling a classic car, yet it is outside the scope of capital gains and income tax!
  2. Congratulations on the birth of Erin mate......
  3. Here's my starter for this evening...... ....Heard it for the first time in ages, driving home yesterday.....:punk:
  4. Got to laugh at the content of this thread - not poor Jeff's illness, that is never good (get well soon matey), but at everyone's replies... Richard:clover:
  5. Many happy returns Graham....:happybday: Richard:cool:
  6. Yup - and I have a feeling I might be stealing Julia's car in the morning.....
  7. Hi and welcome to the club Jack!! And good luck with your new project mate.... :clover:
  8. Pretty thick snow here today as well...... .......The paperboy dropped off the Sunday papers at around 7.30 and by 9.00 his footprints on the path had been filled with fresh snow!! Still, it was nice and cosy in the pub at lunch time - and since we walked, it would have been rude not to partake of a couple of pints and a nice bottle of Beaujolais with our roast beef......
  9. Exactly what I was referring to Jeff! M5 and M6 with rev limiter removed have easily topped 200mph - just as some AMG Mercs and RS Audis will also. And yes, I have no doubt as to the capabilities of old-school fast Fords - but as you say, they would certainly have been heavily modified; and we all know that some Cossies were tuned to 400bhp-plus in the day!! Despite all the Cossie hype, it wasn't until the Sapphire arrived, that the Sierra (in stock form) could actually hit 150mph; since the rear spoiler seriously inhibited aerodynamics. The Escort Cossie - again in stock form - struggled to hit 140mph for the same reason. That rear wing acted held the car back a hell of a lot - albeit it kept the rear end securely glued to the road...!
  10. Happy 70th Steve - here's wishing you many happy returns on your big day mate....:happybday: Richard:thumbup:
  11. A lot of processes can take too long in England - often for no reason other than one person involved in the transaction being an idiot.... .....But a property conveyance can be done quickly and hassle free, so why doesn't it always....? When I moved last (in 2006) it should have happened much quicker; were it not for the fact that solicitor of the person buying my old house was a f***ing idiot. Instead of compiling a list of the queries he had, then passing them on to my solicitors, he just asked one at a time. We were supposed to exchange on an agreed day - but he asked one new question every day for over a week.... And it's not just because the lawyers want to drag it out to charge more money either; because most conveyancing is a fixed fee - so it really beggars belief!! I feel for you Jeff; so good luck with the (eventual) sale.....:clover:
  12. Not sure about up north, Tony; but I used this guy down in Bucks.... https://staautogearbox.co.uk/ He came recommended to be by another member on here at the time - and I was very impressed. Great job, great service and highly knowledgeable. I'd go back to him again, should the 'box in my current Zed give up. Assuming I don't get Jimmer to convert it to manual...
  13. H3 and H3c refer to the original halogen bulb fitment only - both have the same shape base, so when upgrading to HIDs you can fit an H3 kit to either UK or J-spec....
  14. As said above, you can. So you can be sure that Mike at MJP will also be able to supply them new, too.....
  15. I reckon I agree mate! The Calibra might be pretty slippery, but I seriously doubt that 250bhp would be sufficient either..... .....Very true Chris. We might all have hit 155 - and felt the car had a lot more to give - and whilst it probably does, wind resistance at those speeds will prove the limiting factor..... ......For sure! I reckon any car would need a minimum of 380bhp, maybe closer to 400bhp to top a true 180mph. IIRC the 3.0sc 400bhp F-Type Jag can manage around 175mph - which puts the limits aerodynamics impose on a car at high speed, into perspective.
  16. LOL - it's not a bad auto, considering the age of these cars - but as another old git, I have to concur.... I also like the auto!! ....But Chris, you do have point. Fitting a 2nd hand auto 'box is always a gamble; as the replacement could just as easily fail in a short space of time. I went down the full rebuild route with my old red Zed; cost me £1200-ish all in IIRC, but with the 24 month warranty I got, it was worth the cost.
  17. ....And just HOW GOOD do those cars look.....:cool:
  18. Yup - what Gary says...... .....No-one better than Jimmer, to take care of your Zed....
  19. PMSL - but I have to admit to being a member of that club too....
  20. We are now into December - and there is less than a month left of 2017....... .......And I have a couple of trophies left to hand out at the end of this year. So without further ado, please may I direct you to our final three competitions of 2017: Most Helpful member of 2017..... https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?188426-Most-helpful-member-of-2017 Most annoying member of 2017...... https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?188427-Most-annoying-member-of-2017 And probably the most coveted award of 2017; Car of The Year...... https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?188424-Car-of-The-Year-2017 What are you waiting for....:clover:
  21. Happy birthday for yesterday Jeff!! Hope you had a great day... Richard:happybday:
