paint advice please, before I set fire to it....
I got a better equivalent from my paint guys, its basically a bar coat sealer http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RFU-Isolator-Car-Paint-Sealer-1L-Isolate-it-Quick-Drying-Barcoat-From-Bitec-/110910092577?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item19d2c1b521 or the original http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Paint-BARCOAT-SEALER-FOR-ALL-PAINT-SURFACES-1lt-/290420455029?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item439e687675 Especially good for our Poly bumpers where crazing and cracking repairs have been done. I tried just 2k high build primer on the rear bumper and a week later started to show the stress lines, due to reaction from the 2k, bare in mind i didnt rub it down to the gel coat, which if i had done, may not have reacted with the previous paint. A couple of coats of bar coat sealer, prevent this happening as its fast drying. It looks a whitish opaque colour in the tin, but once mixed with hardener and dried it goes clear.

paint advice please, before I set fire to it....
Before spraying any 2k, over any unknown paint type i spray a sealer coat, which is clear, but it seems your underseal hasn't cured in the thick areas and the 2k has got under it and reacted. scrape off and remove the affected area and put a thinner coat of dinitrol on. Putting coats of anything on too thick will always struggle to cure under the preceding coats.

Looking for a second car
How about this, a mazda 323f BA, i had one for 7 years and ran like a dream, cheap to run as a 1.5, cheap road tax, plenty of room, still look sporty and you can pick them up for peanuts. I bought one last year for the step daughter for £440 and i bought another as a spare for £60. Parts are cheap and readily available and to be honest for a cheap second car, you cant go wrong really and its Jap

autobox to man
You need to change the spigot bush in the rear of the crank too, the auto is different from manual, only a few quid to buy.

Subscribed :)
Welcome Frazer, there are quite a few members in the South Central area, so will be meets. There are plenty of Targa leak threads recently if you do a search and the number plate lights, if not bulbs, usually rusted bub holders, easy fix, 2 philips screws to remove the dome and you will be able to see the issue.

Shakey Steering
Normally spigot rings missing or damaged with after market wheels, mine have deteriorated, recently and i am now getting the wheel vibration at around 60mph, i didnt have it before i added hubcentric spacers, but as the rings get brittle with age and occasional removal, mine have definitely split.

Dial Guages
They are easy to fit, but make sure the dial face is well stuck down evenly, if they lift slightly they will catch the needle. Also you will still need led or bulb for rear illumination to light the needles, or they will appear dark without.

Interior light problem
No fuel pump relay i believe i said lol

Interior light problem
I would hope he had one or his dash lights wont work either
-
Interior light problem
Yes TCU in the footwell next to the fuel pump relay. In some models the TCU is responsible for interior light dimming/delay, so its possible a track burnt on the board could be causing the issue.

Interior light problem
you wont see Chris's boot light with the install surely?
-
Interior light problem
The boot when open also lights the cabin, the catch is the switch and sometimes the 3 screws need tightening or re adjusting.
