  1. Sounds like a boost leak to me, maybe a loose clamp on an intercooler so intermittently leaks
  2. My experience is that safety mode is only cleared after ignition on/off, so weird if it alternates from run to run
  3. To summarise the above: stock will take the power (if in good condition and well mapped) Stock pistons are cast, rods are forged Aftermarket forged pistons & rods are significantly lighter than stock items Cometic gaskets seem to be hit and miss, we've now seen a few failures. If you have one fitted and it;s survived to date then it'll most likely be fine! Stock HG would be my recommendation for future builds, tomei for extreme builds
  4. No such thing! :D Agreed it's too hit & miss to stick with cometic, I have one installed and it's not missed a beat, but will switch to Tomei for the next build - just in case. Stock will also be fine for 99.9% of use cases
  5. [video=youtube_share;6YuYVQjJwt0] works fine ;)
  6. NA subframe removed from storage where it's been sat for the last 18months! Subframe has now been fitted to the car, doing it piecemeal and assembling on the car - figured it would be nigh on impossible to mount fully loaded on a gravel driveway. Jim has also used his contacts to modify a quaife diff to fit the NA R200 diff, another part that's been sat for a year waiting to be fitted
  7. FYI I had my manifolds, turbine housing and downpipes coated, makes a huge difference to engine bay temps.
  8. Well done Bob, excellent achievement
  9. Used but in good condition - £30 delivered
  10. Depending on widths and offset
  11. Strosek kits usually have a huge lip though, so be wary of rubbing and then cracking the arch
  12. get a new ECU/EFI loom - much easier and peace of mind get rid of all the water lines under the plenum so it's easier next time :)
  13. Are you suggesting I've put on weight! harrumph!
  14. that's pretty much the final size, it's big! No need for undertrays with that, it goes to the front subframe. I will make another with the tiniest of lips which will act as a single undertray / road friendly splitter. I need to make the end plates for this extreme splitter and finalise the mounts for it, it will be hard mounted to the chassis rails
  15. some updates, pictures say a thousand words and all that :) Spintric arrived and mocked into place Fitting aerocatches to the boot since the hinges were torn out when I had my bump Making an extreme splitter bumper template in hardwood to kick us off should be big enough ... adding diffusers
  16. Gaskets, yes. I would replace rings
  17. Rereading, the fact the compression jumps up with oil I'd say your rings are not sealing and very unlikely to get better now. I doubt it's your higher boost run that's done it, most likely an issue with the build
  18. Which ones? You'll get lower comp readings with the 500's Either way, it shouldn't pressurise the crank case. Either you're pcv's are stuck open, or rings are not sealing properly and unlikely to improve
  19. I would remove the pcv valves in case, but as Noel says, it doesn't sound good. Do you have aftermarket cams?
  20. Running in? Get the thing built and up to Noz, the mapping process will do any running in needed then it'll be fun time
  21. Personally unless you're going with bigger cams and valves I wouldn't bother
  22. Your power goals are easily achievable, add some cast manifolds while the engine is out, they're not expensive and will let the engine breath
  23. are they the CarMad ones?
  24. Lol, if it blows it was going to blow anyway, so just saved yourself a 1000 miles of running in to delay the inevitable
