  1. I can't make this sunday, as it's he bank holiday weekend. I'm gonna be covered in render and plaster all weekend, then after that I gotta do some building work :D
  2. What kinda of an event is is ?. Show or track day and show ?
  3. Yes, the sensor is brass. It's a screw in type which does not have a connector on the end of it. Instead it has a screw thread where you would either just wrap the wire around or use a round/hoop connector and secure with a bolt. Could I just run an earth on the same connector as the sensor ?, I mean the whole sensor is brass, they would effectively be connected to the same thing anyway ?.
  4. It's never been plumbed in and has been sitting for years in it's original packaging. It's still nice and shiny like new, only plumbed it in on Sunday morning.
  5. Good idea. Where's me kettle !!! Actually you've just given me an idea. Thinking about boiling the kettle and putting the gauge in will probably give me an incorrect reading because the sensor should really be earthed seperatly from the gauge. According to the fitting instructions you shouldn't use any silicone sealant on the thread as this may give an incorrect reading due to earthing propeties. Therefore putting it in a bowl of water form the kettle will probably give even more of an inaccurate reading. Which gets me thinking.... the sensor is plumbed into an ali water sensor adapter, but this adapter sits between two silicone pipes which sit between the top feed form the rad and the SS top water pipe to the engine. Therefore even if I don't use any silicone/red or anything else it's still notgoing to be a great earth is it ?. Maybe I should run an earth wire from the sensor to ground on the plenumn ?., what do you think ? How have you guys got yours wired up ?
  6. ok I guess the first thing to do is get a conzult rigged up and comapre the temp's between the ECU and the gauge. I'll have to wait until I get my lead back unless anyone close fancies a visit sometime next week ? :)
  7. That's the problem I guess, I thought I had a good gauge, are autometer gauges no good ?
  8. You have the exact same set up as me then. My sub fan did not have a relay in it, I'll have to plug one in, although I'm not sure it should be getting this hot anyway at under 3k rpm. No unfortunately my cable stopped working (couldn't not find ECU) just before the car went off the road for a rebuild and I completely forgot about it until now. I'm sending it back to DTA to check but I think he is away this week so won't have anything back for a good few weeks I would imagine. Can I splice into a wire from ECU to get a reading on my after market gauge rather than the sensor ? or does it not work like that ? I'm wondering if the sensor.
  9. Hmm, ok from the feedback so far I think I'm running a little on the hot side. My stock gauge sits just below half, however my aftermarket gauge sits at 210 F which is about 98.8 C, once she is warmed up. Now this is a little worrying since I'm still running her in at under 3k rpm. I have a howe rad, aftermarket oil cooler, SS slam pannel, electric fan (which is currently wired up to ignition live so comes on when the ignition is on), also have the under plenum by pass mod. I'll check tonight whether she's got a small air lock but I think I've got all the air out since my matrix pipes decided to drop all the coolant over tesco car park. Do new engines tend to run a little hotter or have I got a problem with either the gauge/sensor/engine or cooling system ?.
  10. Just out of interest for those of you with after market Gauges, can you tell me what your temp is once you have been driving for 5 - 10 mins. i.e. what temp does your guage read when it gets to a point and just sites there. Also what cooling mods are you running at this temp ?
  11. Just before we all post up saying "yeah he ripped me off" or anything like that. This thread was purely to see if anyone had fitted the oil adaptor as I can not fit mine. It looks like it needs machining. In response to joley P, I don't think it's a greddy one as it doesn't have any logo on it. But then it could be. I would assume it is the same one that everyone else in the group buy who ordered one got ?
  12. Did he actually pull you over ?. Because it he just had a camera and didn't actually come after you, I'm not sure he would have clocked you.
  13. Or he was eating a dohnut or whatever it is that traffic cops munch on in this country. I wish the cop that I passed on Satuday was distracted. I lost my rag with a fast lane crawler doing 65 on the M11. She pulled into the middle lane and then started accelerating. Long story short I got my first ever points on my license and it was a close one. I got 3 points for doing 98mph. The strange thing is I wasn't even in my Z, I was in my beema :(.
  14. I know this was a long time ago, but I never did get round to fitting my autometer gauges that some of us got in what has been named "the worst group buy on the history of the 300zx forum" http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=34023&highlight=autometer+group+buy. Anyway, long story short. I've fitted them all in now (yes two with nice silver edges the other with autometer written around the edge, never did get this sorted, turned out to be too much of an issue). Water adapter fits nicely. temp gauge wired in and working fine. Boost gauge wired in and working fine. Oil pressure gauge - wired in but have not connected the orange wire to the sender yet as the oil adapter seems to be too thick for the oil filter to be able to screw on. Did anyone else have this problem ?. Did you have to get it machined or buy a different type of oil filter. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.
  15. Well I know that 3k rpm in mine is 95mph in 5th, but then I'm running 3.1 rather than 2966cc but I don't think it will make a great deal of difference. 110kph is only about 70 mph but I really can't imagine your car would be going that slow at 4500rpm in 5th ?.
  16. You're photoshop skills amaze me :). Good job your very talented with a spanner, could I can't imagine you're too hot with a paintbrush :D
  17. Don't worry about that mate, I take care of my car like it's my 2nd child.
  18. I did read this site as it wa linked from tt.net but it seemed a little contriversal, the Americans on TT.net can't decide the best way either lol. I think I'll go get some real cheap oil from halfrauds tonight and order 4 or 5 oil filters. I've done 150 miles so far with no oil change as I was told to change at 500 miles, so I'll do an oil change this weekend. What sort of oil should I be putting in for the rest of the run in period? 10/40 ? I usually use magnetec and probably will do once the engine is run in unless you reccomend something else.
  19. That definitley sounds like goose honk to me. If you don't want BOVS, someone may have some old recircs for sale. Ask in the wanted section, they won't cost much at all as most people throw thiers away if they fit bovs.
  20. No I still have aircon etc. I wanted to keep that in. I'm not sacrificing keeping cool for the sake of performance :). I think I'll get a relay for that then.
  21. If you are going with that lot I'm going to assume your tubs are bigger, in which case they will be 5 studs rather than the stock 4. Which means you will need downpipes anyway (5 stud). The downpipes will reduce your spool up time and if you are doing the lot in your list I would definately get a nice set of ini downpipes on there as well.
  22. If your O rings are good, you can just run a little red (semi hardening gasket in a tube)round the edges to make sure you have a good seal.
  23. I think she's saying... " I know Si likes to think he's a perfectionist, but look at the amount of slack he left when fitting the side of these seats, I'm not impressed, it's just not good enough".
  24. I guess it kinda means you can bid for a car, go see it and then say you don't want it without a mark on your ratings.
  25. Erm where is it ?
