  1. This is what I was affraid of, problem is its just a total pain to get a decent electric shower. Its got something pathetic at the moment, on what looks like 30amp cooker cable, im not sure what "size" cable that is. Well I was hoping a combi would suit me better, I neglected to mention but I dont spend that much time at home with my work etc im away most of the week quite often so didnt want a huge amount of hot water just sitting there in a tank wasting money etc. Im fitting a wood burner into the front room so that will provide most of the heating for the house im hoping. Mainly as it'll be almost free and with double glazing and good insulation should nicely cook the house - i,e meaning the heating has to do knack all!
  2. Thats the problem... lol it does work fairly well its just not what I want. I want to make it a nice bathroom, at the moment its absolutly awful. Its chocolate brown with yellow walls... Well im on with painting the yellow magnolia but I cant do anything about a brown bathroom suite. I also want to knock the seperate loo and bathroom together to make a nice modern bathroom. Its all a future project but the boiler/hot water situation needs to be fettled first. The only reason I say about the hot water tank in the loft is because the hot water tank at my parents house is up there so it doesnt clutter the bathroom. But that was done when the house was extended the first time and dad put it up there - when I was about 7 so 17 years ago or something daft. But thats a pressurised heating circuit with an oil fired boiler so totally different to what I have.
  3. Happy birthday for yesterday mate!
  4. From Indian_zx's thread it appears that there are a few people that understand boilers and plumbing systems on here! Which is alot more than can be said for me! Basically I want to replace the nasty bathroom thats in my house. Its a 3 bed semi, it has gas central heating/hot water at the moment. Its an old Baxi conventional boiler that has a hot water tank in the bathroom and two header tanks in the loft, a big one (im not entirely sure what for, cold water of course, but is that to supply the hot water tank with cold or the cold water taps in the house?) and a small one for the heating system. (I think) Now it all works fine, its just pretty old and inefficient. The pipework to the radiators is 10mm i believe, is all fairly well fitted and in good condition, as are the radiators. Obviously the main feeds along the landing and between floors etc are larger. What I want to do is get rid of the hot water tank from the bathroom so I can get the space from the cupboard. Now that either means getting rid or moving it. I also want a proper shower, now I had wanted it to be fed from the boiler (i.e not electric as it is at the moment) but to do that without having a combi boiler I assume that means the hot water tank has to be higher than the shower - in the loft basically. So I'm looking for my options: A: Get rid of tank, replace with a new combi boiler job done B: Move tank to the loft and keep the existing boiler until it goes wrong C: Move tank to the loft and replace with a new conventional boiler D: Anything else? The issue I have is that I like the idea of a combi boiler, hot water on demand and very efficient but pretty much everyone I speak to says they don't like their combi, its not reliable, not as good etc as a conventional system. I do want to get rid of the tank though but I dont mind it being in the loft, is that feasable? Would it cost as much to move the tank than to replace the boiler?
  5. Perhaps he meant 440nm? Which is about 325ftlb - about right for the mods? A common mistake people make when talking about torque :)
  6. The irony of the fuel, a local garage the other day they had a 323ci in as a none starter, both the RAC and AA had looked at it, AA had towed it to the local garage as "undiagnosed none starting". After much delibiraton, a friend of mine was there at the time, said "how much petrol is in it, check the OBC" sure enough 0 miles.... amazing!
  7. I'm not sure if its much use to you but this was my respray thread: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=137119 Basically I took the car to bits on my drive and worked with a couple of friends to prep and paint it over a couple of days.
  8. E46 M3 is quicker than both an E36 M3/evo assuming all are standard and healthy and the same driver. I totally agree with you Stellaz, its exactly why I sold my M3 and ended back in a zed again. The M3 any of them are far better cars on paper, almost as fast (well quicker stock for stock), easily handle as well is a far more comfortable, reliable, economical and easier car to live with. But there just isnt the passion, the fun somehow. This is EXACTLY what I found with m E36 M3 Evo, a wonderful car Infact all the car you ever needed if you drove it every day. 321bhp for the weekends, and 35mpg on a run without a fuss in the week. Problem is I drive a boring van every day of the week for 700-1000 miles or so. I didnt want to have to work a car hard at the weekends just to enjoy it, the zed feels special at 20mph. The transmission shunt, its so low, noisy and harsh. Seems so raw compared to modern stuff!
  9. Happy birthday mate!
  10. Bearing in mind that they were frozen bulk bought sausages I thought they were pretty good, no complaints from my cooking anyway! :) I never got chance to have a burger as they were all eaten (I suspect by mikey bean....!) :D I think we should perhaps identify the key areas in which people feel improvement is required, put an individual thread up for each of those with strict instruction its for ideas only. Then vote on the best ideas/proposals and then discuss each one. A huge great thread like this often gets people confused, repeating the same things and getting the wrong end of the stick.
  11. Yeah but hope for us all yet! At least nice ones are worth more than £1500! :) Of course you never get back whats been spent, but at least wont loose everything lol
  12. Has anyone noticed that thankfully the price of 300zx's is begining to drag its arse up? I was having a browse of whats available and for anything turbo with a manual box the price is at least £2500 and anything thats reasonable is holding a good price. About dam time as well, I remember selling my last zed for £1500.... manual turbo, leather retrim etc no smoke reasonable miles. That'd be up at 3k these days!
  13. Damit wish I'd got mine done! :) Quite interesting reading though, mostly timing out and thermostats!
  14. If I were him I'd have used it as an excuse to go for a manual conversion.... far easier and more cost effective! :D
  15. Welcome mate, who did you come down with? One of our members? What have you bought?
  16. hehe I'm not complaining, never got a trophy for anything before! lol
  17. Lol oh dear... that was 316 miles from £71 not a bad effort from the zed (although I have to point out that my M3 would have made it there and back on a tank) A steady 70 mph for most of the way, not a bad effort for the old girl!
  18. Indeed so, a very impressive achivement and a fabulously well presented car. Eclipsed only I think by some of our runner up trophies ;) lol
  19. I'm just back from JAE, great weekend! I know I set of at 2:30 but having driven to my mothers and sat there for a 2 and a half hours, then driven to my dads dropped the zed of and collected the van and driven to my house, I finally made it home around 9:30. I Filled up before leaving home on the Friday night, down to Kettering 200 miles or so, to northampton and back and then back to uttoxeter for my intended fuel stop (although I wasnt sure it was going to make it after some "fun" coming back from northampton to kettering this morning). Filled the old girl up and having done 316 miles on just over 51 litres... thats 28mpg!!! In a zed, blimey almost a diesel at that!
  20. Now who did this, had a zed, sold it bought an M3, had it for a little while and decided he wanted a zed again and now he has a silver slicktop? Just cant remember who that was....!
  21. Look on camskill, under subaru STI caliper or mitsi evo 5>9 caliper rebuild kits. When I looked at this (decided it was more trouble than its worth!) it was difficult and expensive to buy brembo rebuild kits.
  22. Doesnt look bad mate for its age! I get excited about my vans... but I do spend most of the week in them with fairly large miles so I suppose I do have to like it! Have you a new transit did I see?
  23. I'm gonna rip of your head and shit down your throat!!! Ah dam mate, I'm so glad its not just me that does shit like this. Normally totally calm and end up getting mad at the totally wrong time... doh!
