When you say plonked into neutral, do you mean there is no drive? Do the revs increase but the speed doesnt? Or there is just simply no power? Is it quite violent? The speed limited mentioned above is usually set to 112mph (however if you are running 14psi, you should have a chipped ecu which should have removed this limiter by default), is it always at the same speed that it looses power or different speeds?

How many miles has the car done john? I had the same engine in a kangoo van on an 08 plate, it was never particularly good on diesel but its first 5k was bloody awful!

My boss has one as well, its a nice car although not been without its share of problems!! Its not been that bad so far though I have to say. They sound awesome, although I wasnt blown away by the performance - It didnt really feel any faster than my zed. However the noise, oh the noise! Windows down, walls either side 2500rpm. I nearly had a gentlemans crisis!

Poor you... poor wife! lol. So its going to cost aprox £100 a month in rent and electricity to do the 55 miles a day. Which is £5 a day based on a 20 day working month. Assuming you had a good diesel that could do 55mpg, it would use a gallon of diesel a day, which is say £6.20 a day... Plus the £12,680! Ever come across perpetual motion?!... They do have regen braking to recover "lost" energy, which is why you cant tow them I think! I suspect the drag and weight caused by the dynamos would use more juice than they produce.

TBH, french diesel. All the trim will have fallen of but they just dont go wrong. The later HDI models have a bit more stuff to go wrong but they are still cheap to fix! My sister has a 306 1.9d she bought from a mate of mine for £350, its done 160k, passed its MOT first time and never misses a beat, does 50mpg or so. Does great for her a cheap run about!
