  1. I was getting 30 miles on a tenner driving to my old work, town driving all the way not above 40 mph......but if fuel consumption is an issue with you then as a few people have said DONT buy a ZED...saying that when I bought the car in Maidstone and drove it to Glasgow I got 250 miles from a tank.....averaging over 75 mph with a few blasts up the M6, which I dont think is too bad. My advice is sell the Nissan and buy a ZED, as you only live once and why not put a smile on your face every time you drive it. CHEERS John Crisp
  2. I did mine, it took me 2 weeks but only getting like an hour here an hour there....is a time consuming job, i had smoke from the LH side of the engine as you say with oil burning on manifold. Mine is actually leaking again slightly as I didnt use the correct silicone........bummer. Cheers John Crisp
  3. Mine was a ping pong ball inspector ffs...but my wife's boss's name was absolutely spot on, as he is an optician.....kinda freaky. Cheers John Crisp
  4. Sounds like it is terminal, I work on ZF Auto boxes in commercials and we can power up either clutches or gears with a length of wire, then bring in the lock up clutch that should be in from 2nd to 4th or 5th gear depending on box spec, it should almost instantly staul the engine, if you go through all the gears, a clutch/solenoid can be pinpointed. Also you say you have no faults showing with a diagnostic check, a solenoid may be fine electrically, but mechanically fooked, i had a fault with no reverse gear ona box that had been overhauled/on a test rig, it was a faulty solenoid, it had the correct resistance/current draw. These cars are a nightmare when it comes to diagnostics, i'd just hate to see someone rip you off by overhauling the box when its maybee only a solenoid. HTH Cheers John Crisp
  5. Kev What happens exactly, do you loose 3rd gear or does the change take place then you loose 3rd gear. I have a manual for the box in front of me and there are a load of checks that can be carried out. Have u got the manual??If not look in Zedworld (http://www.zcentre.co.uk/). Maybee its a wise investment if you are gonna be tinkering with the car. I would e-mail it to you but its too big for outlook express. Maybee some of the experts can say yes or no to this, but is it possible to power up each gear with the ecu disconnected via the ecu plug with a bit of wire.? HTH Cheers John Crisp
  6. I was usin about 30 quid of petrol a week and bought a renault 19 diesel, i ended up better off with cheaper running costs and the zed on classic insurance and her indoors happier for once as she hates the zed. Cheers John Crisp
  7. My ST185 GT4 was much better on fuel than the ZED but I couldnt care less about fuel consumption (except when the mrs asks me I get 30 to the gallon from the zed). If I had a choice between a GT4 and an FTO, deffo I'd go for the GT4, FTO's are getting like escorts and astra's up here. Just my 2p's worth Cheers John Crisp
  8. I got the filter element from SUMO POWER, 23 quid delivered to my door in Glasgow. It was in an HKS bag so I am confident its a pucca part. Here's the details if it helps. mark@sumpower.com http://www.sumopower.com phone 08712260171 Cheers John Crisp
  9. Cheers for the replies guys, I have just been a run and even just going up the street the car feels a lot more responsive. As for sucking in water I guess its common sense as with deep puddles, avoid them, but I was thinking of trying to make a guard over the winter. HKS Filters are popular so I guess everyone has opinions on them but i'd say whatever the filter pointing in that position i'd say they would all sook up loads of water given the right conditions and the filters should be changed regularly, 23 quid isnt a lot of money for a replacement filter. Cheers again guys John Crisp
  10. Cheers Steve Are there any mods that can be done to stop the water going directly into the filter in between the gap of the bumper or is it just best to be cautious, as it looks kinda open to the elements. Maybee a twin filter set up is better as the filters will be up higher.? Cheers John Crisp
  11. Peter I bought mine from Brown Brothers in Paisley for about 80 quid I think, the carrier comes with the bearing as well thats why its so expensive. Their number is 0141 887 4754. HTH Cheers John Crisp
  12. I bought mine from Courtesy Nissan USA, I cant remember exactly how much but with the dollar being weak its no where near what you would pay in UK, the only drawback being that you need to pay import tax as its delivered. But its still miles cheaper and you have a new part other than a 2nd hand one that might break down on you again. Here is the link: http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=22020-00Z32 HTH Cheers John Crisp
  13. Anyone got pics of their HKS Induction Kit, I have just fitted mine and it seems very close to the bar supporting the cooler and the bumper. Cheers John Crisp
  14. Are there any other garages/specialists that you can phone to compare prices, get prices of belts and ask him to break down his bill, then with comparison you can see, locally here a friend got her astra alternator reconditioned for 30 quid, no comparison as 5 minutes the alternator is off, whereas a zed is more labour intensive. Worthwhile phoning around. HTH John Crisp
  15. Done it too....that mao is up to date as when its zoomed in it shows where i live....unlike most of the street a-z map books for sale. Cheers John Crisp
  16. I have a single exit system made up from old eminox pipework, 3 inch pipes merging at cats, 4 inch to silencer then 2.5 inch straight through the silencer.....isnt too loud unless kicked...then its loud but it sounds fookin awsome. I didnt care about weight saving, or future mods etc, to me I think it looks better but thats just my taste. Cheers John Crisp
  17. Betty Blue is an awsome film......my sis in law gave me a copy of it on video when i fooked my ankle ligaments and was off work and bed ridden for 2 weeks...about 10 years ago or more i think .....i think i watched it about 15 times.....beatrice dalle.......ahh well back to reality.... Cheers John Crisp
  18. I am like that with Tiger Woods 2004 on pc, but I am kinda glad i dont play it for real.... Cheers John Crisp :headvswal
