Anyone running 2 x fuel pumps?
Hmmmm... This could be the problem I'm having... Not that it's detting at the moment but it is failing a balance test (compression is good 168, coil pack good and injector firing as checked with noid light but just fails a balance test) would an aeromotive style FPR sort this do you think. There is a slight miss on tickover but this clears if you raise the fuel pressure by 7% in Conzult... Sorry for the thread hijack Andy but really want to get to the bottom of this issue!! Thanks Paul

Garages/engine builders capable of building a high spec 300zx.
Sorry... I've heard good things about Thor but having spoken to them in the past they don't seem to keen on the on working on 300's that's all... maybe wrong though as I'm sure someone here had a build by Thor... Anyhow more than happy to have a quick nose if you want me to... as said I'm no expert and you may want JimmyTT or someone that knows more than me to have look but as said I understand the pricipals and know what a good workshop should look like! Let us know how you get on... Paul

Garages/engine builders capable of building a high spec 300zx.
Thought that might be the case with Thor... just thought I'd ask... If you wanted I could pop to the TDI garage near london and have a look at their facilities if you wanted an opinion before visiting yourself... I will point out I am no expert but do understand the priciples of engine building so would be happy to have a look if you wanted and hopefully not look too stupid!! Paul

I understand mate... I still think you should have a chat with Mike (Mr. F) though even if it's just to confirm something he does know a fair few people in the trade as it were and maybe able to point you in the right direction... could you not get an engine built in the States say and shipped over... I know there's an element of risk but I believe they have more big power builds than the UK (not sure though) I've got a Z1 shortblock in mine (previous owner bought it and had it fitted) and it seems good though not massive power! 409 atw at the moment. Have you thought about Thor Racing? Paul

Stock injector capabilities - 420HP MAX???
From the research I've done I thought it was lower than that, say around the 400 mark... Although I think it depends very much on build etc. aswell. I'm running 555's with a proven 409 atw at the moment (one injector seems to be faulty). I'm sure one of the tuning gods will be along soon to confirm!

I've heard good things of Jimmer, Everybody who's used him has said that he is Excellant. No personal experiance though. Might be worth also giving Jeff at Zedworld a call and Mr. F as I'm sure they will both know people capable of doing high power builds.... hth Paul

Balance test still failing
Hi mate, I have spoken to him about this in the past as he used to look after the car for Radron who I bought it off, I feel a bit cheeky phoning him though as at the moment it's in the hands of Mr. F and it isn't really fair for me to hassle him if someone else has already taken it on as it were. It will go to Jeffs at some point as I want some performance bits looked at and possibly a new diff but I don't want to drive up there with it as is as I'm afraid that I could do some damage if my fuel isn't combuting properly in that cylinder (it seems to drive perfectly well). I think I might initially try a VFPR and see if that clears it otherwise it'll be plenum off and injector replacement... If that doesn't work then god knows as then everything will have been looked at... Thanks Paul

Balance test still failing
Shameless bump... Any Ideas anyone... Looks like I can get a single injector from Z1 but does anyone know if I can get a single from a UK distributer? Thanks Paul

Balance test still failing
Hi all, Well some may remember a while back that I had an issue with my car failing the balance test, well I had a compression test done and that showed results of between 175 and 168. Now we swapped coil packs and plugs with no change although there was some corrosion on the plug and pack on cylinder 6 which is the one that is failing the test, this was cleaned but still have the problem. There is a slight misfire on on tick over which is pointing to a problem althought the car seems to pull fine with no hesitation. The misfire clears if I raise the fuel pressure by 7% in conzult but I couldn't tell you if this fixes the balance test issue as you can't run the test at the same time. So the first question is would low fuel pressure cause the balance test to fail? Now the only thing that seems to be left is the injector and here lies the problem... to get to the injector means taking the Plenum off (I don't want to do the dremel method) but the issue is that I'm running Nismo 555 injectors. Now I can have them worked on and maybe that will fix them but I'm worried that it might not and then I'll be paying for the work to be done twice... So here's the next question, does anyone have a known good 555 injector that I could purchase or know where I can get one as I really don't want to buy a whole set just to replace one? Thanks for all help in advance, Paul

One cylinder not firing
Have you checked that the injector is actually triggering, I think you can hold a long screwdriver against the Injector and put your ear to the handle end and you should hear it clicking... Other than that I'd suspect PTU. If you can prove all of this is OK it's compression test and leak down test time... Oh and be careful around the Injector connector as the have a habit of falling apart if they're really old... Paul

what channels can you get with these
Hmmm looks ok. You should get all of the freesat channels and a few more besides. I'd personally get a sky dish and by a proper freesat receiver though, but up to you. Gotta be worth a go for £50 though!

Electric fan
Oil temp doesn't seem to bad, however it's the standard front bumper and nose panel... This I might look at replacing the fan, the Howe Rad should be good so I'll just be taking it easy.. it does have some rather large turbos so I guess it might just be to hot under there for the fan to cope with... I'll be removing the AC at some point soon... it'll be going into the body shop over winter hopefully so maybe it can be done then... I'll work it out eventually! Thanks for the advice, Paul

Electric fan
Interesting, I'm running a Z1 howe Rad but with the Zcentre kit (installed by previous owner) and my coolant temp is definately higher than that... It's still got the AC and an oil cooler infront of the main rad which won't help (AC to go soon) but I'm seeing temps of 83 deg after a 70mph run for 20 mins or so and that's when it was quite cool, this weekend the same run saw temps in the high 80's... maybe the Zed centre kit isn't up to much... Hmmm just checked and it's only a 14 inch unit... looks like I'll be getting rid of that then!

Electric fan
I have the Zcentre setup and am going back to Viscous (was on the car when bought) on the weekend I was seeing temp of around 89-90 (measured with Conzult) which means my engine is basically cooking and I had to stop and let the engine cool, I wasn't even driving hard... I believe 92 deg C is where the ECU start limiting performace due to excess heat, I think it retards the timing but I'm not sure. Go back to viscous if you've got electric and if you haven't stick with Viscous! IMHO obviously

Intermittent steering shake under braking??
This is exactly what I had when my T R Bushes went and also the upper H arms (not sure on the proper name) needed to be replaced at the same time, If you stick your head under the car can you see if the bushes are leaking at all? Thanks Paul

Should I Buy a 300ZX?
Hi matey... I live in Kent and I'll extend the same offer as Indian, you're welcome to a passenger ride in my 300... Although it's not quite standard, also there's a meet at the Halfway House on the 6th August, there'll be a few there and you'll get an idea about the club as well....
