Hey guys! Recently new 300zx owner, and am esctatic with the car! Literally the only issue with the car I bought is a knocking in the rear quarter passenger side. It sounds like it's behind one of the quarter panels, and definitely sounds like it's internal, like it was the speaker or something similar. I've not managed to track it down, and I don't think it's suspension related as the car has only done 40,000 miles and the suspension is very solid, no play and doesn't feel like there is anything up with it. Is there anything else that might be known to cause it?

hi all. just reading up on the laws for rear illuminations on vehicles before i go down the road of rear panel lighting DIY ( thanks sussex stu for pointing out the you tube vid ). Think to keep within the law i will have to go with red ? think green can only be shown on a doctors car? so am thinking perhaps of tiny red 12v led's with a diffuser either wired to brake lights or side lights. has anyone been pulled over by the flashing blues yet for the same idea ? or come to think of it any other wierd and wonderful lighting modifications ?

hrrrrrrmmmm pffffooo, hrrrrrrmmmmmm pfffffooooo.... Thats basically what a TT should sound like with BOV's yeah? Had a test drive in a car with some unknown BOVs fitted direct inline with the hoses, but they were dead silent. Like, not even the slightest hint off any sudden release of pressure when lifting off the accelerator. Could this just be that whoever fitted them didnt want to draw attention, or is it somethin I should investigate more thoroughly. The engine pulled strongly and was clearly building boost, but I was a little disappointed when it failed to announce that boost was being dumped. whats the worst case scenario here? Ive driven a few T…

I went to the warehouse today to start on what was supposed to be a complete brake overhaul and some paint prep. It turns out that I have a bit of a larger problem with rust than I first thought.............. Drivers side Passenger side What do you think then, repairable? Or should I just break it and sell for parts? I'm gutted as I had it on a RR in Feb and made 376bhp so I know the engine is good and having bought all kinds of bits and pieces an the last 18 months it could all have been a waste of time.:cursing:

I have aftermarket pillar gauges fitted and recently there has been a load of water/liquid coming from the oil pressure gauge. Now now my initial thoughts are leaky roof, so the water is running down the pillar into the gauge units. But I noticed the water is a bit dirty earlier on so I thought I would ask the question how the oil pressure gauge works? Is it electronic (i.e from a sensor) or is it hydraulic (hence why I'm getting pumped a load of water into the cabin). This is what I have:-

Well just had rev1 here listening to his engine tap, its coming from his gearbox, and goes when he puts his foot on the clutch, engine is fine though. Anyway my misfire, had his PTU off his car and put it on mine, same problem, so can only be the wiring loom now. as when playing with the cable with the car running and his PTU the engine cut out. So anyway, put my PTU on his car, and his was running perfect. Looks like I'm going to have to strip back the loom from the PTU and see if there is anything untowards going on :( unless there is something else I'm missing..... Arrggghh

on taking a pic of the electric seat switch i thought i would pop off the sill plate and look if the '300zx' can be illuminated somehow, turns out these are already the ones, not connected just had two loose wires. i cannot get any life out of it though, i will have another fiddle but wonder if they can be fixed, mainly you graham? :helpsmilie: the condition of the sills are very scratched, don't know how the hell they have got like that!!

Thanks for the help with the boost guage issue. Another question now. The car i test drived yesterday was pulling 25mph per 1000 revs in 5th, is that right? I thought the gearing was taller than that? Engine redlines at 6700 doesnt it? So that would mean 167.5 potential top speed - right? Its not really the kinda thing you can do in someone elses car, I mean if someone test drove my car and redlined it, they'd be walking back to their car.. Gotta show a bit of respect! Its not like I intend driving flat out anywhere, but could indicate a different gearbox from a N/A or something. I'm sure you guys will know, its not another series specific thing i…

Im confused.. Do all TT have factory boost gauges built into the speedo? Have seen a couple of cars M/N reg that do not have the boost gauge. Is this correct? Were later models sent off the production line without these pretty important items? I was thinking that the cars must have started life as N/A motors with TT fitted retrospectively. Or have i just failed to realise what everyone else knew for ages? Please help as I've seen a decent car, but was put off by the above mentioned fact. Was starting to worry about origins of engine (good/bad donor) and whether the install had been done correctly. Need to know by tomorrow dinner time as up in scotland …

Found a jap video to show how to do your own illuminated rear panel, there is a few of different lengths, showing each process of the work. Might help others. will add this to the DIY rear panel pics that i did a while back.

As well as the sills and bumpers, the nice guys have done some extra work free of charge. The tyres, intercoolers, intercooler ducts, silencer, fuel tank, front splash guard, horns and numerous other bits :cursing:. Spent yesterday afternoon getting the worst of the overspray of the front end. Is there no pride in workmanship anymore?
