General Discussions - 300ZX Related

As mentioned in my earlier "mystery leak" thread, I also have an oil leak somewhere.. Got under the car this morning and it seems to be getting worse :( If the car is standing (not running) I probably get about 4 drips per night on the garage floor, but when running (under pressure) it seems to be much more serious (see pics). When standing, the drips are coming off the sump, but I think that this is just because it's the lowest point.. Been checking the oil regularly and topping up as required. Would be good to get this sorted though! :cool: As before, many thanks for any tips.. :bow: Steve :)

had a long run into London last week took 3 hrs...used the air con a fair bit and the heater not that it got hot...it blew a lot of cold air even when set to 40....when i parked up the car boiled over from down by the expansion resevior bottle...i topped the car up with coolant and water a few hours later and ran back home no problem...but didnt use the heating/air con that time....do you think its connected or was it an air lock or dodgy rad cap?

Lets say i've got between £200-£300 to spend on a boost controller what has everyone got and what would you recommend? Any good/bad points?

got my t/t all way back from baggins after a successful chip ( thanks mate , much appreciated) and after 100 miles finally got within 2 miles from home and car overheated and heaters went cold, pulled over and saw green water pourin out under the car on the right side of the rad as u look at the car. I let it cool down and topped it up and it held the water no probs , no leaks nothing , heaters working again and drove home, checked again , no leaks!! drove to work , no leaks and heaters work fine. What could this be ???

Saw a nice looking, sounding 300zx cruisin near the thames was crossing the road near Temple Tube station

Took the zed out of the garage this weekend and was puzzled to see a small pool of what looked like coolant underneath the car.. On further investigation, it sems to be coming from the rubber encased metal pipes to the right of the rad (facing the car) which are usually hidden by the fan shroud. I have circled the pipe (badly :rolleyes: ) in the attached pic - the leak seems to be where the metal band wraps around the pipe.. Am assuming from the online manual that it relates to the aircon system :confused: but not 100% certain.. Any pointers appreciated as always! :bow: CheerZ Steve :)

Hi 2nd day of Zed ownership and I have been going over the car, for bits that need replacing/fixing. One of the most irritating is that some bugger had kindly writted "ZX" in huge letters, on the bonnet with a sharp instrument before I purchased it. Scratches not too visible, but quite deep. I was wondering wether getting a second hand bonnet (seem to go for under £100) in the same colour (Black) would be fine for color matching ?....or if I would really need to get the whole bonnet resprayed (a lot more than £100 I expect?) Ok guys, please can you all list what would cause smoke on over run after booting it. Thats the only time it does it, after its booted and you remove your foot from the gas. however pressing the gas again slightly the smoke goes. Just after a list of things to check at the weekend. I know i have a small boost leak, would this cause that? Cheers guys, Mathew

Bought myself a MIG welder to fix the holes in my four year old HKS Super Dragger. And I've got quite a few. The exhaust may be stainless but the welding on it certainly isn't! Take a look at the attached photo which shows where the welds attaching one of the brackets rusted through. Does anyone know where I can buy stainless steel sheet from? I'm either searching very badly for it or it's not to be found on UK Internet sites easily. Or if I were to buy this locally, what should I be looking for? I'm totally new to all this and haven't a clue where to look or what to ask for. Thanks for any advice.

My normally faultless 300zx cut out on Friday on my way home from work. Tried to start it but there appeared to be no fuel getting through (engine turned fine and farted a bit). Called out the RAC but 10 mins later tried it again and it fired up instantly. 5 miles down the road and it once again cut out. After leaving it for approx 10 mins it started again. RAC arrived and followed me for 40 miles with no problems whatsoever. Since Friday have done at least 100 miles but the bloody thing cut out again today. Same symptoms - leave it for a while and it will start. Have changed the IGN/COIL relay switches but it has since done it again. This is beginning to hack me…

this is my sons car and i'd like a second opinion if anyone would be so kind.... Symptoms. No smoke first time you start it, rev it gently no smoke, rev it higher and keep it there and smoke pours out. Boost it down road and it smokes. Looked into the pipe from turbo to FMIC and its full of oil, only done 30miles since FMIC fitted and all pipes were spotless. Even leaks oil out of plenum chamber. Breathers are very clean, and I run a catch tank anyway. Take the oil filler cap off and not a bit of smoke or anything. Dip stick is spotless, rad water clean. What do you guys think, I think turbos had it. what do you think? many thanks

Just out of curiosity I compared the weight of my alloys (Momo arrows 8.5 x 18) with the zed's std (7.5 x 16) wheels. The standards were 18KG (inc. tyre) and the Momo's 23kg. Multiplied by 4 and that's a healthy 20kg extra! :eek: Will this reduce engine response and would fitting a lightened flywheel and/or various lightened accessory pulleys only increase the engines' response back to somewhere equivalent to when the standard alloys were fitted? Hi all. Well, the first thing to go wrong is my Headlight, went to get in it to go and pick up some beer, and my right headlight has gone. I'm glad it didn't go last night whilst in Southend, there were so many cops about I would have been pulled instantly, it's pretty weird that it's happened tonight and not last night really, but hey, whatever. Anyway, where do you guys get your replacement bulbs from? Halfords? And as it's a Jap import am I going to have any problems with fitments etc. I've never had a bulb go on me before, let alone on a Zed, so I thought if anyone knew any tips or had any suggestions, it would be those boys online. Hi all, Ok i am really new here, and only just secured my nex Zed yesterday (I have bought the black zed from cc300) I am reading a lot about safety boost, how do you know if your car is running on this, and how if it was would you change that ? I have not collected mine yet, so its not a problem i think i have, just very interested. thanks guys

I was rolling around pi$$ed as a fart in the back of someone's car at the time so I'm a little shakey on the facts! :duffer: :slap: I think it was a red F reg. Probably about 5 mins out from the town centre, but no idea what direction!

Just wondering Are these the standard rear speakers? If they are, what's best replacement that will fit those holes?

I'm replacing my old wiper blades with new ones (Bosch). One of the new ones has an extra plastic bit, like an aerodynamic flap. Any idea which wiper it should be on (driver or passenger) and which way it should point (up windscreen or down towards bonnet) ? Or should I just lever it off with a screwdriver? Cheers

this may be a daft question but here goes is it possible to install the mig tips without making any other alterations ie ecu upgrade

the black strips which run from along the sides of the windscreen up onto the targa's are peeling off showing stainless steel underneath...any ideas on difficulty in getting them re-done... seem it could cost a bit for something so small or has anyone just peeled the rest of the black off leaving shiny strips...if so does it look worse better? cheers

I have a jap tt and a mate of mine suggested that I fit boost jets. When I looked properly at the boost lines there is a solenoid for an apexi boost controller fitted but the control unit is not there. Does anyone know where I can get the rest of the controller cos the whole unit costs about £300-£400 and I dont really want to splash that out? Thanks

1 is that despite a new rad new thermostat and checking the water pump and new rad cap I don,t seem to get any pressure in my water system and I don,t have any idea why , no coolant goes missing the level is always the same, temp remains constant , normal 2 in colder weather not in the summer when i start my car it stinks badly of petrol till the engine has warmed up , any ideas , help would be much appreciated

Just curious, there are still some for sale from the same companies that were advertising when I was looking to buy back in may time, are these just bad examples or do zx's take a while to sell, specialised market and all that! Alex B
