General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Just had an MOT failure on smoke from the exhausts. But it's done that at all the other MOTs I've seen. I checked http://www.motuk.co.uk and it says reason for failure is "emits dense blue or clearly visible black smoke..." so it's down to a definition of "dense". Which I don't think it is. The smoke is almost deffo down to old turbos (standard, over 110k miles). Two questions. 1) Is there a quick fix that can be done before Monday? 2) Anyone know a Z-aware (i.e. knows they might smoke a bit) MOT centre near Staples Corner or Heathrow/Hayes? Cheers - Gio

I took the Z off the road last summer to fit a new interior, new sound system and a few bits of bling in the engine bay. I had the cam belt changed when I got the car, but as I was not a member of this board back then and I didn't know to change the water pump etc too. I've got a new water pump and was most of the way through stripping the old one off when I got stuck on removing the crank pulley to get the bottom cam cover off. Got let down by many 'expert mechanic' mates, and here I am 6 months later with it still off the road. I can't stand being without my Z for much longer. I was speeding past - at about 9:45am this morning. I would have stopped to check you weren't broken down, but by the time I realised it was a zed I was already pst you.

Has anyone used one of these, its a CK-UN-09 (speed converter/delimiter) 5 wire type but you dont use the grey wire, i have just bought one and want to know if its ok before i fit it, the instructions seem straight forward, i have just got to cut the L.brown/blue wire on the white plug on the back of the speedo cluster and put this unit in line, and hey presto, or am i just dreaming??? you thoughts would be good.

I get a very small output of black/blue smoke sometimes from me Z when i give it some stick(when warm obviously). :cry: Not all the time...lasts about 2 secs. I have read threads on the forum and it suggests this could be the turbo seals. Have also read their only bout £20 but fittin is £650. :shock: Is their any way i can confirm this before shedding out my precious reddies? :confused: How long will the seals last if they have just started to fade??? :confused: Will i just loose power or will they cause damage to the engine?? I am concidering changeing the tubs complete as i want(NEED)more ooommph. Ultimately how long would my turbos…

Guys, Can anyone advise why one should or should not go for an import 300zx tt over a UK spec. What are the main differences? Also have read that on certain yrs, imports, the auto box is prone to over heating due to a sub std part, is this a common accurance. What else should one look for ??

Evenin' All I have got an SPA dual digital gauge for oil pressure / water temp on its way, and was wondering where best to mount the water temp sender unit? Also do you know what size of sender unit mounting I need to fit the water pipe? I have seen the usual generic ones in the Demon Tweeks catalogue - the machined aluminium type. Anyone on here sell them? Would rather spend my money with folks on here. ;) Thanks Derek

Does anybody know where you can get a 2 or 3 guage holder that replaces the bose speaker bit in the center console?

was thinking last night that il probably have to get a new, bigger oil cooler for the swb, then remembered iv still got my old stock engine oil cooler (import). can anyone see any problems with simply plumbing it in series with the existing one? i think its a great idea but then someone will probably tel me why i cant do it :slap: yas

Can anyone fill me in on what to do next Just got my heater matrix fitted Unfortunately while doing it the mechanic saw Auto gear box fluid leaking between the bell housing and the torque convertor. I had this problem last year(leak that is not sure where it was though) and ended up blowng the box Auto specialist in Dublin (200 miles from me) repaired it under guarantee as it blew 2 years ago also. Unfortuately he has now washed his hands of it and refuses to take in on again however he said I dont need an auto specialist this time as the seal is between the torque convertor and the bell housing section of the box. Question 1 - if the altenator stops charging, does a warning light apear on the dash. Question 2 - if the altenator has stopped charging is there a simple voltage regulator in the altenator that can be replaced. ...as you may have guessed, the battery's flat with no warning. I use the car daily (NA), so I bought a new battery 2 days ago (it was over 3 years old) and all seemed well, but this morning it was dead again. ...any answers greatfully recieved. cheers Jack

Well ive had my zed for 6 months 3 of which its been of the road. Spent 2500 on the car and another 2300 since and guess what, it broke again heater matrix i think this time . My dilemer is this, its a non turbo which was a bad idea i know !! But i had planned on spending around 4k on mods and upgrades on the next few weeks but now its broke again i am having second thoughts. SOOO Do i ditch the dam thing altogether ( which is what i feel like doing) Sell it and buy a turbo ( loathed to do that as i could end up spending loads again) Spend the 4k and make her super sexy ( but i need more pwer so any ideas) Common guys i need he…

i have a black non turbo 300zx on the H. good engine, long mot and tax just serviced at nissetec in maldon. body in fair condition, brand new 17's and tyres. cloth interior everything else seems to be statndard, except tinted windows. needs to go as fallen on hard times. all electrics work inc air con rough idea on whats it's worth, and the best place to sell this car

Hi all, I've got me a jap zxtt and am looking to increase it's power. As far as I can tell, its got a aftermarket cat-back exhaust (no idea on make) and a blitz induction kit. It also has a set of HKS dump valves (are they standard? :slap: ) and a HKS turbo timer. No idea on chip (how can I tell?) What's the next best thing to purchase? (I'm assuming chip) and if you could give some help on which one to purchase, that'd be luvly. :)

Okeedokey- looks like I've sprung a coolant leak somewhere around the driver's side part of the plenum. :( Are the throttle warming sections of the coolant loop interconnected or seperate? I might not have a huge amount of time at the weekend, so I might only be able to do the side with the leak, unless of course you've got to do them both at the same time... Cheers, Mark

I'm not sure what is wrong with my Zed but i had a feeling it might of been the turbo, seal or something. On the M4 at the weekend and thought i ran over something small which i thought could of come from under the car. after that the exhaust sounded quieter, then 30 mins later going round the roundabout at victoria (london) and heard a few exhaust noises and popping. sounded quite nice but then i noticed the exceleration had deteriated, still had a lot of pull but didnt get the normal kick when you floor it. Also at high speeds when you floor it it doesnt pick up as quick. Sounds like its trying to though. I'm not sure what to think so what do you recon guys and gi…

Hi there! I need to buy a replacement filter element for my 300zx tt - it has an HKS green 'mushroom' type filter in it at the moment. The problem is the car isn't here at the moment, so I can't measure the size, but are they normally 200mm or 150mm ones on our cars? The guy on the phone said it would almost certainly be 200mm, but to check first. Oh, he also said they sell yellow replacement elements. I take it the colours aren't coded for different types / levels of filtration are they? Cheers Derek
