May seem like a stupid question, but I want to be sure and understand fully. I have the engine fully striped ready to go off and have the work done by a engineering company. Just want to know if some of the things listed is a must to be done. I apologise if they seem like stupid questions, but I'm trying to learn as much as possible and to do most of the work myself. Skimmed block? Clear castings flasings from block (that's a must) Block bored/ honed (that's a must) Crank balanced? Knife edged crank? Skim heads (guess that's a must) Anything I've missed for the engine shop to do? Does anyone know of any decent engineers near to me in the…

YAY! Only just though, realized last night I had been driving the car about since the 4th April with no mot :O I read it wrong and thought it was the 14th lol. Pass apart from a large imbalance in the brakes which is only just within limit. Good job i've got all the bits ordered for the brake upgrade.

Well as I few of u may have seen my clutch has gone. Once we have been under the car it appears it has a nasty oil leak. By the looks and sounds of things the oil has ran in to the clutch causing it to slip and burn out. I can't believe it. Still haven't ran the engine in fully yet and iv been taking it easy. I'm gutted. Going to call phil in the morning to see if he will fix it. Only had it back 2 months :(

Coming home tonight and I over took someone and as I went to change gear I heard a crunching noise and found it difficult to engage a gear. Finally got it in gear but everytime the gear engaged it made a funny noice and seemed to jurk a bit. It still went though. Just gone out to see if it was OK. Put it in 1st and pulled away but when I engaged 2nd gear and released the clutch, nothing  I had to coast down the road to park up. Now it will go into gear OK but when I release the clutch it won't go anywhere. Any ideas ?

Hi, As the title says i've been trying to find my perfect alloys for my Z for what seems like an eternity. All i want is some plain 18" 5 spoke wheels without any of the flares or twiddely bits or fake allen bolts that seem to be on every other wheel out there. Going on an earlier thread by FunkySi i was thinking of getting a slight stagger with the fronts being 8.5" wide and the rears being 9.5" wide. I assumed that as 5 spoke's seem to be the most common alloy's about i'd have no problems finding some, but almost all the wheels on the many, many websites i've looked at are way too over designed with all the plain 5 spokes being too small or too narrow. I'…

Couple of gearbox related questions for you. I have a manual NA. If i fit a TT engine i will need to buy a TT clutch and flywheel. Are there any other changes needed or will this all go together no probs? Also, i have a one piece Z1 propshaft. If i change to a TT gearbox, will the propshaft still fit? Cheers

The Truck Racing Team I work for is being co-sponsored by Autoglym this season, so being sat in Oldbury and away from home and nothing better to do I thought I would try some of the various sprays and polish on my car which I just happen to drive up in this week, well I wish I had a camera because she's polished up a treat, well pleased with my evenings work, time for a couple of :duffer::duffer: OK one more:duffer:. ok here goes i am trying to get a grasp of what is going on. i have a TT SWb Auto and the needle never moves anywhere from 0. doesnt go - or +. had turbo's checked and they are not blown and i also done the idle test and never got any smoke from the exhausts. Having had the engine checked i have been told that two wires/cables that run either side of my engine (apparently connect to turbo's) are not connected properly and so the ECU has no control over the boost  apparently they were not plugged in properly and exposed to the air and have broken. been told can plug back into ecu control or get boost controller (if i can find one cheapish) started worr…

I remember reading about a layshaft in a box that spins. My prob is on my manual gearbox is that on tickover I have a whining noise that raises in pitch with the revs. When I press the clutch down it goes totally - this means if im sat at a set of lights or in town I have to keep my clutch down to stop the stares..... It also whines when driving (more if I throttle off I dont notice it but under load its pretty bad) Im going to replace gearbox oil this weekend (hopefully). Do you think this will sort it? Could it be that its low on oil or has old oil that is causing the whine? Cheers
