Hi. I have gained a leak, seems to be coming from the joint between where intake joins onto the drivers side turbo. the part thats bolted on, that the rubber connection goes to i mean. Is there a seal/gasket under there? Car does not smoke at any time, boosts well + doesnt make any noises from either turbo. smokes under the bonnet when it drips on turbo. Any ideas?

Alrighty then.... got my Z back today after having my STS turbo set-up fitted :hyper: For those that aint sure what that is their websites here: http://www.ststurbo.com/sema_2004 We ended up going for a single turbo setup running at 0.7 boost and the results were very impressive I have a dyno sheet here but as i aint able to scan it right now you'l have to take my word for the figures. Before anything was done my NA was dyno'd and peaked at 192.7bhp The dyno result after the STS conversion came out at a peak of 348.9bhp :D Theres still a couple of things to be tweeked here and there such as an AFC to have more control over the fueling...…

am about to order BC coilovers but dont know what spring rates to go for. shall i go for the manufacturer recommended : BC distributor recommend a spring rate setup of 8.0 (front) and 6.0 (rear). This is based on their experience with racing both Skylines and Silvia's. Their cars are road-going vehicles and this particular setup will provide excellent road holding characteristics as well as excellent posture on the track. i want it to be comfortable on the road but good for track days.

...Upper Plenum when your car is at it's optimum working temp? Just note if it is as a result of driving around town or hard motorway usage? If anyone/everyone interested could take the temperture (Say - where the "Twin Turbo" sticker lives) on there TT - that would be fab! Or at least make a note of the exact place where they are reading the temp. :o Any help appreciated. :) Andy

Hi i was just wondering if anybody else's 300 has my problem, after driving for a while (not even long, bout 10/15mins) it gets REALLY hot! under the hood and from under the car, the temperature needle works fine and it DOESENT overheat it sits in the middle, but the heat coming from under the hood and under the car is really hot, like when i open the door and put my foot out i can feel the heat if im wearing shorts, and it just seems a bit weird, is this normal for a 300? or does anybody have or have had this problem??? help plz!

Hi guys, I've lived with this 'problem' since putting the engine back in complete with new hybrid turbos. I removed all the extra boost control lines and solenoids to run boost control purely off the AVC-r. Problem is that even setting the AVC-r on max duty cycle I can only get to approx 1 bar before the wastegates open. It has been suggested to me that the wastegate springs in the new turbos must be too weak to contain any more boost than this. I don't fully agree with this, I would expect the pressure in the exhaust system to keep the gates shut to some extent. Any observations on this? I've never heard of anyone else suffering from weak springs in this way. …

Now I've had a chance to look at the car properly and rectify some really silly faults (rear wiper parked at bottom of screen/ rev counter needle reading 2500 revs when engine is off/ tighten alternator belt to stop screeching etc...) I did however notice that shortly after start up 10 mins of idling at 2000 + revs that there were wafts of blue smoke from the exhaust. First issue is the smoke, the second that the revs are sitting so high. The smoke went as quickly as it appeared - the oil is nice and clear and there is no smoke under heavy acceleration. The hazard lights aren't working, I think the switch is u/s as it doesn't seem to latch - am I right in thinki…

Well was heading down to Mikey Beans this morning, set off at about 3am on the motorway. Drove about 50miles and........bang, smoke everywhere, couldnt see a thing, hazards on and onto the hard shoulder. Phoned the RAC who sent out a contract company who have impounded my car the F***ing twats. Told me they cant deliver roughly until about tuesday. So im phoning the RAC to boot there footballs as i am a full member and paid for the car to be taken to its destination, not to be stuck in an impound for 4days. Really really getting worn down by this, everything sjust testing my pacients with the zed now. So anyways i have a car sitting in a crappy impound with a…

Yes, it's true, Detective Jeff has solved the mystery...again! The issues with my new Z (new to me anyway) and documented in a separate thread, but after pondering whether to make the long journey from Basingstoke to Tamworth, I finally decided to take the plunge today and was not disappointed. Jeff fans abound on this forum and for good reason. His knowledge, professionalism and attitude is second to none and he deserves all the success he gets. I drove away with a completely different car to the one I came in with. My problems were: - Engine lacked power below 4000 revs and was hesitant. - The who car vibrated at times. - The rear suspension…

Air leaks are part and parcel of 300zx ownership and ensuring all is ok is can be tricky, even with the right equipment. The zed in the photo had several issues leading to real bad running both at tickover and on the road, the owner lives in Norway and had little choice but to pack it into a container and send it to us. After all the other issues where dealt with, the final air leak that is shown in the following photo`s was loosing a surprising amount of boost given the pipe size. The small pipe which is part of the boost solenoid assembly is not an uncommon one to come adrift but what a difference it made, boost leak checks…
