  1. I would not risk it on an old cambelt, they rev the b@ll@cks off them during the runs.
  2. Why does it all cost so much ? especially when you can go to places like GSF and buy parts for Mercs and BMW's for about a 3rd of the normal price.
  3. I notice that the club is not mentioned in the attendees. If we want to have a chance to win we need to get some of the power cars on board like Jimmer and I think Zogs is quite good. I am hoping that mine is now over 400 bhp. Who else has got beefy motors Lisa.
  4. One of those jobs that you just cannot leave or the results are catastrophic.
  5. Any update on this, i.e., prices etc., it is now only 3 weeks away. I thought there would be more activity.
  6. I thought there would be a few people hankering after a meet up today, it could be the last day of the Zed season. Just been out to get fuel with the tops off and it is fantastic.
  7. I would also be a bit concerned about the final cost, surely they have given you some idea of price when they started which after all this time is probably unrealistic.
  8. If the car has been off the road for a long time, the discs would have corroded and this would cause juddering. This should clean off after a good run and should be OK. I would also check your steering rack track rods as they also get play in the nylon bushes and can cause the wheels to shimmer which also feels like a judder.
  9. No there not but make sure it is an injector gone down. With the engine running put a long screwdriver onto each injector with the handle end to yor ear, you should hear it clicking as it fires. No click = duff injector. taking the plenum off is not difficult if you have had an EGR bypass, otherwise getting to the 2 bolts either side will require what they call 'crows feet sockets', otherwise they are very difficult to undo. The rest is straightforward. Take pics before you start and along the way as it will help when re-assembling with all the pipes and the engine wiring loom that does the plugs and injectors. I did this and found it very useful.
  10. I just cannot believe that any one would take their car to a garage, and then not see it for months !!! in some cases 9, and accept that it was OK. I am on my third Zed and THAT has never happend to me with any of them, I would not let it. Jimmer does a complete rebuild including getting all the machining done in a couple of weeks, and that is on a part-time basis.
  11. I admire your persistance mate, you have had a rough ride to get a nice Zed out of it. I look forward to hearing you posting up about cracking rides out in the motor, and can't stop driving it sort of stuff. When they are good they are fooking great, when they are bad...........................Jesus they are bad, total despair.

Your car wasnt formerly owned by James Bond was it. I would check the passenger seat fixings !
  13. I think you should do a write up Greg, so that it could be referred to when this problem arises, which seems to be quite often these days.:)
  14. Is that couple Dave and Lisa.
  15. She is like that all the time with Dave, whether he is driving her car or his own.;)
  16. I think your dreaming too. £400 might just buy one from Z1.
  17. I also reckon you would have to remove them for an MOT so that tester could actually examine the true state of your suspension mounts.
  18. Change your steering rack mounting bushes, they are nylon looking thingeys which fit inside the rack mounting brackets. They usually go soft and allow the rack to move about and can only be changed by either dropping the crossmember, or taking the engine out. they are also very cheap to buy.
  19. Its also a UK car so 17 years of use will have taken its toll.
  20. Just what I thought, but a nice colour tho' and a series 2.
  21. On a more serious note, if the car was running OK and then starts banging through the exhaust, it usually indicates a valve problem, i.e. a burnt exhaust valve ( does not hold compression) that is letting petrol get pushed through into the exhaust where it fires when the plug sparks. I would check your compressions if this is the case.
  22. I suppose thats Morrisons in Hartecliffe then so there would be a lot of local interest too.
  23. Thats my boy...... Will be there then in the Zed.
  24. Make sure the initial oil is a good mineral oil which will allow the rings and bearings to wear in right to match their rubbing surfaces, then after about 500 miles do an oil change and use a quality synthetic oil to protect all the surfaces. The standard of machining / engineering and materials are so good today that 'running in' as it used to be referred to years ago is no longer neceassary.
