  1. Unless your mechanic was use to working on these cars it is more likely the he gave up on the car not the engine. Take it to someone who knows Zeds and as Si has stated, get a compression test done but also get the electricals checked out. They are more likely to have failed that some mechanical item.
  2. I decided to fit my 555's and the JD chipped ECU today and duly got stuck in to stripping the plenum off. No probs at all as Jimmer had recently done a rebuild and everything just flew off without any problems. Removed the fuel rail with the standard injectors in and fitted the new fuel rail containing the 555.s. All back together albeit with a bit of cussing trying to get the passenger side PCV valve pipe back on. A b#st#rd I have to say. Anyway on to the the best bit.....the swapping of the ECU. Now normally on most cars this would be a piece of cake but not on mine. It had previously been fitted with an HKS F-CON which was disconnected recently when the car was overfueling badly, and a SAFC. Now at the RR recently at Ian jefferies they reported that it was still overfuelling which was interfering with the higher revs and this had contributed in a loss of power, so with the fitting of the JD chipped ECU I disconnected the SAFC. It started first turn and ticked over superbly, pressed the throttle and all hell lets loose. Black smoke like I was burning tyres and hunting.....ooooops. I think by disconecting the SAFC I have interupted the ECU circuit, hence the severe over fueling. Tomorrow I will reconnect the bloody thing and see what happens. The moral of this story is, do one mod at a time and run the car, it makes it far easier to fault find when things go wrong.
  3. Is that so you could walk Si, and save the fuel costs.;) P.S. Where is the Windmill.?
  4. Yeah, whatever. wednesday preferably as thursday would start to get a bit busy in the pubs and I don't think it would be very pleasant being stood up and unable to communicate because of the noise. We need a pub that does not do a lot of food as they tend to draw the punters in practically every day. Any suggestions anyone ?
  5. Murt, your not reading the words, it states 'evening meet'. I was thinking of something like a monday / tuesday evening, say 7.30 onwards at some mutually agreed pub or varied to cope with those living further afield. The reason for monday / tuesday is that most are quiet on those days and we would be able to sit down and chat. Just a thought.

Lisa was refering to the custard on the tart after Sunday lunch Si, I heard that she baths in it.:)
  7. Having a regular monthly evening meet, obviously in a pub, just to chat generally, welcome new Zed owners, and talk about ideas for meets etc,. especially now that it looks like winter is here and most Zeds are going to remain in the garage. It would be chance to keep up the personal contact and hopefully organise some good events for the spring, or weather permitting, before.
  8. My lad used to service Parcel Farce trucks and he used to say that quite often there were parcels still in the back of vans/lorries when it went in for servicing and repair which on occasions lasted over a week.

  11. There is a big difference between having an idea, and having an invention. Ideas are just hyperthetical thoughts, actual inventions is when it has been tried & tested and found to work. The latter will require investment which if you do not have then you would have to find a partner to fund it. Before anyone will invest in an idea, they will need an indepth knowledge of your invention to ascertain whether it is a worthwhile project. On that basis, if it requires substantial developement to become a bonafide 'invention', your share of final product would be grately reduced because of the pre-qualification investment. you would probably end up with a 10% stake in it. If possible you should try and validate your idea on a small scale before approaching a 'speculative financier' for investment to avoid losing so much stake in the final outcome. When it is 'proven' you / they would then be able to apply for a patent which will last for 5 years.
  12. On standard wheels and tyres as well Rich. Is that a bit hairy........and another thing, we obviously needed you at the Ian Jefferies RR recently to bolster our tally of bhp.:)

  15. Just get a secondhand set of cats. Look in the 'for sale' section or put an ad in the 'wanted' section, there must be loads out there from all these breakers that are now appearing. Speak to Paul as SWZ, he is a spares trader on here.
  16. Who is johnwayne300 ?? obviously a newby or have I slept through this.
  17. Ebay is not difficult, finding the right product that keeps selling is difficult especially as postage which is so expensive these days bumps the price up considerably. I used to buy and sell old books which was a good earner but now that postage has rocketed, people tend to buy locally. I got a mate who buys photographic material from the States Ebay and sells them on the UK / Europe Ebay, very successfully, but it is knowing your prouct and what its worth.
  18. Yes, have you got a mouse with a scroll wheel, if so press control key (hold down) and turn the wheel to get the right viewing size. HTH
  19. Is it a rolling road as well, I shall have my 555's, JD chipped ECU and Profec B fitted by then.........................................OK, its just lunch then. Go on put me down.
  20. Sadly the number of potential employers is shrinking too, along with the jobs. What sort of jobs are there now available and will they pay a reasonable living wage.
  21. An interesting post Danny. It has been stated in the Times that during an economic crisis / recession, Mr & Mrs Average are not usually affected as drastically as business's are, unless of course they are involved in a redundency. They normally cut back on luxury items like holidays, meals out, theatre visits and home improvements / new furniture purely because the press is full of hard times ahead. Unfortunitely your market is the 'alternative' type of product where owners usually put their cars in the garage and sit it out which as you have stated combined with competition from overseas, has severely reduced your turnover and profit margins, and it is not set to change for some considerable time (at least a 12 month). Property (buy to let) which was a good bet is now out of fashion. The hunt for something that is recession proof will be difficult unless you become an undertaker or an Official Receiver which is not really an option. The idea product is something that people use regularly, and when it runs out, a re-supply cannot be bought locally and thus they comeback to you. sadly most of these type of goods have been exploited by the Chinese and very cheaply as well so the search for a wonder product I think will be difficult. Why not try to source cheaper similar products to those you already sell, and then give the customer the choice between quality and price. that may be an option to keep your turnover / profit bouyant.
  22. Yes, the Civil Service. If you know anyone who is a Civil Servant, i.e., works in local government, MoD etc., they can buy it for £17.50 and it is the full works. They can only buy one copy tho' so if they have already bought one, they cannot buy another.
  23. Even cheaper if collected and a great oil too!
