Battery life - engine off, ignition on
Battery tested - had one bad cell. So not entirely my fault!

Battery life - engine off, ignition on
Ah, that makes sense. I had ignition on because I was trying to get my PC connection to the Consult interface working. Will remember that in future. Thanks Jeff.

Battery life - engine off, ignition on
How long (roughly) should you expect a good condition, charged battery to last with the engine off and the ignition / radio on? I ask because after working on the car yesterday for about 3 hours and another 20 mins yesterday, the battery is flat. Voltage down to 9.4. The only other time I've had similar is when at Beaulieu a few years ago, was sitting in the car, radio on for a couple of hours, car wouldn't start then either. It's only a normal unit, not ICE with amps and stuff. I've not had this problem with any other car than Zs!

how to disable speed-sensitive PAS
Thanks for your reply, Nick. I've found these threads https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?189042-HICAS-and-Power-Steering-issue&highlight=speed+sensor https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?188358-Speedo-and-PAS&highlight=speed+sensor https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?187449-Issues-whilst-conducting-HICAS-diagnostics and had a good read. Some comments: It's a Series 6 '99 JDM No speed converter (or any mods) OEM cluster OEM ECU NA so no HICAS the fault is intermittent and occasional only evident at low revs / speed - i.e. when parking, junctions, ambling round roundabouts haven't noticed any issue with the speed indication either on the OEM cluster or on ECUTalk LCD Display Does this point in any direction? From the other threads I'm guessing possibly intermittent connection (check and clean connector). If the sensor was faulty, wouldn't the speedometer be faulty as well? I'm trying to fire up myConZult at the weekend to see if that gives any clues. Thanks again, Mike

how to disable speed-sensitive PAS
I was just about to comment "what common issue about speed signal disappearing?" when a little light went *ding*. From time to time and at low speed, my PAS goes really heavy. Plus there's a funny noise when turning the steering wheel - a bit like some fluid being pumped against a restriction. I check the belts and the fluid level and the error codes - no problem. I wonder if the pump is on the way out - but then the problem goes away for a while. Does this sound like the "common issue" I didn't know existed? :) If so, what's the troubleshoot? I have OEM JDM cluster, no converter, no mods. Thanks

Insurance - Aviva and Direct Line cover Japanese imports
It's insurance renewal time so I did the sensible thing by looking at different quotes. My existing insurance is through a broker Higos with Markerstudy policy. Excellent customer service over several years and club discount. Having escaped to IoW, my mileage is less than half what it was, maybe 5,000m with some small business mileage. The traditional classic type firms: Lancaster, Lynbrook, Footman James don't offer business miles. Lynbrook need you to have a classic with them before you can have normal as well. But to my surprise, both Direct Line and Aviva now have no problem with insuring Japanese imports - mine is stock with no mods but it looks as if they would take a mod or two. They both said that if their system recognises your reg number (as it did with mine), they'll do cover. Mine popped up as a 2 door saloon manual so I rang up and said, no actually its a 3 door hatchback, coupe, auto and they amended accordingly. Being pedantic, I asked about Japanese import, they checked and it's OK and put a note on the record. And if you ask nicely, they'll even put it on the schedule so there can't be any issue in future. Bottom line is it's halved my comprehensive insurance for my daily driver Z to below £200. Here endeth the insurance report for today. Drive safe, keep it shiny side up.

Rear Window remove / replace
Thanks JaiKal, FunkySi. There's no way I would try it myself so I'll see what the local windscreen chaps say.

Rear Window remove / replace
My tailgate has got a rusty corner which I should get something done about. Ideally this would involve removing / replacing the rear window. I've heard some horror stories but then Si says he's done it 3 times. Do any of the associated parts need replacing or are they re-usable? 90352-32P00 Moulding-Back Door, Upper 90314-30P00 Clip-Moulding, Upper 90366-30P00 Moulding-Corner, Upper RH 90367-30P00 Moulding-Corner, Upper LH 90372-32P00 Moulding-Back Door, Lower Plus there is mention of: 72715-81800 Spacer-Glass A 72715-81800 Spacer-Glass A Quite apart from "don't break the glass" is there any advice I can pass on. I assume the outside moulding round the glass has to be removed carefully. Any tips? Do I need to remove the trim from inside the tailgate as well? Thanks.

It's 6 months since this, but it seems impolite not to say thanks - this works for me too :)

A very Merry Christmas to you all.....!!!
And to you all - I was going to put our tree on the Z and take a pic but it got dark. So here it is next to Basil our 18-year-old nearly blind feral rescue. (Sibyl and Tilly also still with us but they don't like sharing close-ups, Mr de Mille).

Where have I gone now?
@ craig, you too, mate. @ Gary, there's quite a lot of Nissans over here already but they seem to be Micras with a 24mph speed limiter and compulsory hats. @ groover, that would seem to be a good target for an Island meet "see the yellow peril moving again" so set the date... :D (the first pic from Wootton where we're renting until the house is ready and the 2nd pic from a walk along Colwell Bay). Merry Xmas ho ho ho

Ah, OK. Email sent with screenshots. Thanks. As I said no rush (and I'm going to the pub anyway so wouldn't want others to be slaving away while I'm skiving :D )

Thanks - no rush at all, I think people might be a bit busy with important things right now :D

Can't save signature - invalid file, says vBulletin
Yes - it's always been showing but this morning I can't edit it. Just trying to update the miles and fix the fuelly badge display. If I try to save without changing or even change just ne character, I get the invalid file error message.

As above - or am I being ham-fisted? I get "invalid file" even when just saving or previewing the signature without any edits.

Thanks Gary, maybe I'll just go and park outside his house and blip the throttle :)

White Z on eBay
Good grief, Sudesh, sorry to hear of your troubles. Best wishes to getting fully back to your old self asap. Yes, you had 2 Version S - an NA auto with 18,000km and also a Turbo with 34,000km from memory). I bought the NA auto and she's still my daily driver (now with 164,000km). Here she is in your car park when I came over in Apr 11 and Gary gave me lift from the airport. Hope this helps fill in a bit of memory. [video=youtube_share;lwOmJkFXjd8] And your thread from 2011 which has a lot of great pics of both cars. https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?146694-1999-Version-S-Question

Groover's in Ryde? I missed that. Sounds like a good excuse for a Z meet when you come over if not before :)

Where have I gone now?
Morning Rich. Yes, we've swapped A380s and 747s whistling past overhead for an island that's got 3 breweries and over 180 pubs. And while I can't compete with JeffTT's sunset, here's a couple from this week. Dawn: Just before sunset: Haven't seen any other Zs of any model but have been pointed at by a couple of teenagers and had someone say "nice Fairlady" in the Co-op car park :)
