  1. There have been toys/prams in the past which have made me avoid this forum for a while in the past but that's usually been childish keyboard-ninja stuff. There was TimmyTurbo and that bloke who has R32 as avatar (from IoW?) and other spats. But the honest (and sometimes blunt) advice over the years is worth its weight in gold. This isn't the first and won't be the last (I hope) where an over-inflated ad is posted as a warning. If it encourages ads to be more honest and gets people to see what knowledge there is here, that can only help.
  2. I can thoroughly recommend this podcast https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w13xttx2 13 Minutes to the Moon - and lots of vids and pics on the site, too. Interviews with astronauts and NASA staff - an astonishing story, well-told. Not only was it the first men on the moon (sorry, HGW) but also the first software to run on the moon!
  3. To mangle a modern proverb, when we're on our deathbeds, we're not going to say "I wish I'd spent less time in my Zed" :D Yes, it's a nice run down in the New Forest, a great venue (used to go there from school) and a good event. Would be good to see you two again on another sunny day (here's hoping).
  4. Is this the Tesco? https://www.tesco.com/store-locator/uk/?bID=2695 5 years ago: [video=youtube_share;8VB32_dAhxc] [video=youtube_share;P49J5zFwDX8] Let's hope the weather is as good :)
  5. That's great, thanks. I'm looking forward to meeting up. Not many opportunities over here :)
  6. Me too, if I'm not too late. Having missed all the anniversary events this year, I'm feeling guilty and Beaulieu is the closest one to me. Hope I don't flatten the battery like I did last time :) (although if you're going to flatten a battery, a motor museum can be a good place to do it haha).
  7. Nigel Farage. What's to say about this utter banker who was given £450,000 and a rent-free house in Chelsea by an offshore insurance "businessman" while still getting his salary (and about to get pension) from the EU and yet claimed to be "skint". Clearly a man of the people who isn't part of the establishment. And there's Cameron with his £28,000 shed. And May with her £900 leather trousers. Sheesh. Anyhow, interesting video on Farage's interview with Andrew Marr. [video=facebook_share;596466580866336] Cheers - Mike :D
  8. I voted but I'm not going to tell you which way :D
  9. Just to be really nitpicky (channelling Simon :D ), this: isn't a replacement, it's the original :)
  10. Yes. Your Mother can as well. If one of your grandparents was born in Ireland or one of your parents was an Irish citizen when you were born (even if born over here). (Or, as Gaz said, if you're a citizen of NI) then you can get Irish citizenship / passport. If you're going back to your grandparents, you may need to get on the Register of Foreign Births. It's all fairly painless and cost peanuts (about 75 Euro from memory) compared to the £1,000s it costs to get UK Citizenship. You'll be able to find most of the documentation online. Mine was even easier as my Mother was born in NI so I just had to prove that, and that my parents were married (I can prove I'm not a b'stard haha). 75 Euros or so and 2 weeks and lo and behold I'm now a dual national and will be able to travel through the blue gates whatever happens :) Official info here https://www.dfa.ie/passports-citizenship/citizenship/born-abroad/ for those like me and you born outside Eire. Cead Mile Failte PS my current Z entered the EU through Dublin so hopefully she'll be Irish as well!
  11. Yes, that's right. Here's the JDM bumper out of the box - you can see the holes: I didn't see it before the rebuild. If I had, would have kept the Fairlady X logo - as it is, the rebuilder painted the mustache as per the book which covered it up! Here's the same car pre-accident: Evo photo shoot, I think. and post accident - Silverstone 07 (in a pleasing complete coincidence, I am wearing the ZClub commemorative t-shirt of that event right now :D ) The UK plate in the charcoal gray mustache is, for me, the best looking. The gray band seems to make the front of the car "sharper" and leaner. It's also why I prefer it to 99 front bumper (and I've got a 99 car). For my stock manual TT, there didn't seem to be any cooling issues by the slight obstruction. Had there been, I'm sure they wouldn't have put it there for UK cars. As for import plate, as you can see, I've got a short reg no so when this is done at "import" size, it's the same width as the JDM plinth: And as comparison, here's a pic when I was changing from the blue S3 to the silver S6 showing the small import plate on the pre-99 JDM position (had one query at one MOT and said it had to be small so as not to block airflow :whistling: ) and the UK size plate on the 99 JDM position.
  12. UK plate holder on JDM S1 on the left, UK plate just bolted to JDM S3 (I prefer the UK plate in the mustache as on the left - IIRC, the JDM plateholder holes had to be filled / painted) Import size but UK legal plate on JDM S6 bumper There is a grey area about whether the import size plate is permitted on the front - you "could" fit a full size plate. But I've never had any MOT issues (touch wood) and always keep the DVLA regs in the glove box, officer :)
  13. I had my wheels on wrong side for years until the wheel police caught up with me at a club outing. It's easy to check - Nissan put L and R on them! On my first Z, I also went for the 8.5" on the rears (also OEM in UK) but when fitting the tyres, found the tread width was less than on the JDM 7.5" pics here https://300zxtt.co.uk/techwheelpolice1.htm plus, as you say the choice of tire is more restricted and, over here, more £££. Since then, I put 7.5" back on the rears and kept the JDM 7.5" all round on my next Z.
  14. Bloody youngsters. :happybday: :wheelchair:
  15. Yes, it was a great day - thanks. I even found your pics https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?150922-Thanks-to-Gary-Jeff-Zedworld-MrF-MJP-Sudesh&p=1521993&viewfull=1#post1521993 :D Not quite sure how I got such a low number - the club had been going for some time and there were a lot of others before me. Maybe it was just a forum originally and then started a club subscription. El Presidente would know. Only for the laziest Z owner haha.
  16. Nice Z. Having a Z as a daily driver means you get to enjoy it a lot :) Difficult to tell from the pics but I think your wheels are on the wrong side (says the wheel police).
  17. Stumbled over this article on the ZClub site https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2019/03/06/1990-96-nissan-300zx-getting-hot?utm_content=sf99758733&utm_medium=spredfast&sf99758733=1 From US, it says Zeds are getting more popular and: Remember the quote from Motor Trend USA when the 300ZX was launched? Good to see they're still saying something similar 30 years later :D
  18. On Monday, this happened: The odometer passed 174,045km - so what? Well, that means I've driven this car for 89,205 miles since May 11. I drove the car on the right for 59,336 miles between Jun 07 and May 11. And the car on the left, my first Z, for 101,459 miles between Aug 99 and Aug 07. That's this year's first milestone - a grand total of a quarter of a million miles in 3 Zs in 20 years. More that the distance from here to the moon! This forum has been essential to keeping me and my cars going - thanks to everyone. (And who can spot the location where the 2 Zs are?)
  19. 1. watch out for the little spring clip that holds the connector to the MAF and don't drop the fiddly little b*stard. It's covered in the how-to Joely P found for me on that thread. 2. what JeffTT said ^^^
  20. On Wed, got MOT with no advisories harrumble.
  21. Disconnect the MAF, then start the car. If it starts and keeps running, then you've got a dodgy MAF or connection. Although your issue is different to mine, there's a lot of info on how to track down and clear idling problems here https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?190301-Intermittent-rough-idling-next-diagnostic-steps . Probably worth a read and follow the various diags suggested by the forum gurus. Helped me fix mine anyway (thanks, guys).
  22. MAF sensors old and new with part number stamped on: As nickz32 says, the part number you quote isn't a Nissan one. The MAF sensor above was taken out of my Japanese import Z and the new one was from the US. Nissan p/no 22680 30P00. If your MAF sensor doesn't look like this, then it's not an OEM one. New Nissan MAFs available from Japanese stock but currently on offer at $248 from Z1 Motorsport https://www.z1motorsports.com/intake-mas-and-hoses/nissan/new-oem-300zx-mass-air-flow-sensor-meter-mas-maf-p-1752.html
  23. There are many fitments to the Zs. They vary by series, market and option. There's a wiring diag for S6 and S3 here https://300zxtt.co.uk/techaudio.html and a lot of info on pin-outs, Bose systems from these guys in the US https://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Nissan1.htm HTH
  24. Thanks AndrewG, I'll have a go after the O2 sensors and plugs have been done. Cheers
  25. Working through the bits of advice given here (thanks again), I’ve replaced the fuel filter. The MAF change seemed to be the fix but since I got the fuel filter, plugs and O2 sensors as recommended, might as well use them – particularly if the old O2 sensors are, as pointed out, borked (no heater). Here’s what she sounds like when warming up. [video=youtube_share;vD6gPuOR9rE] Here’s the scantech bar display after a blat round the country lanes. I think you can see the O2 Sensors doing their switching thing and the IACV settles at 27 (manual says 15-40). Ignition also stable at idle at 15° which is what it should be. [video=youtube_share;3zzyMjti_RY] I did JeffTT’s throttle balance thing and it was OK, no adjustment needed. I’ll do the idle adjust after the O2s & plugs are done. At the moment, I think the idle is a bit low. As you can hear/see the ConZult idle adj indeed drops the revs by 50rpm or so (disconnects the AAV I believe) which comes back afterwards so I hope just the idle screw needs adjusting. [video=youtube_share;yLjTe-UxPZc] [video=youtube_share;g3-hZd4zfls] The idle adjust on Z32 wikispace given in other threads isn’t there any more. I found this pic of where the screw is but can’t see that on mine – is it this one? Will get back to this after the plugs and sensors are done. Cheers all and thanks for all the advice.
