  1. Well there's a thing - spotted by Gaz300 in 2016 https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?185991-Factory-fresh-Vert I'm just getting used to a few foibles in the convertible. There's a couple of buttons behind the driver's seat for releasing the hood. The top one seems to unlatch the cover so you can lift it to stow the hood. The bottom one triggers a grinding noise from somewhere (presumably some gubbins also to do with the hood). What should it do? As Sudesh did, I noticed the thing that looks like a rear window heater switch on rh pod - clearly it's not that :) I found the US brochure posted by ianl (thanks) also in that thread. They used the right colour haha. (Chrome wheels? there's a thought...) If there is any other convertible-specific info out there, would be interested to see it.
  2. OK, I admit it. I did try to get away. Tried MG Midget, Boxster, Mazda MX-5. My other half spotted an MG Maestro Turbo on Ebay but I didn't get my act together to look. And just now someone's put a Bentley Mulsanne Turbo in the local rag for £3k. However, Zed cold turkey just didn't work. Picked up Z#4 today from PowerZed (hi Jimmer) after timing belt, a/c condenser, plugs, fluids and a bunch of other stuff. Homeward bound. To prove I took the top down on the ferry :) The fleet. How many Zeds is too many? Well, 2, actually - so let me point out the silver 1999 is still for sale :) Oh well,, top down on an island should be fun :D
  3. There's a button Insert Inline in that manage attachments window. Don't know if it's the same when using iThing - would have thought so. Are you able to click that? I just tested and that's how the above pics got there. HTH
  4. That 14 Pin OBD1 to OBD2 looks like just a passive adapter without any active electronics so not sure how it could work converting between two different comms standards. Plus I'm not sure the Nissan Consult itself is an OBD1. I thought it was a Nissan-specific standard. I wouldn't waste my dosh. I used to have one of those big clunky ones from Ebay - sometimes it worked, sometimes not. I would go for something more like the Horsham Developments cable referenced above. Personally, I use one of these https://ecutalk.com.au/ which I put behind the wheel. Mainly because it also has a speedo on it so there's no need to do any other km/mph conversion, I leave the clocks as they are. It does other stuff - mpg, trip, monitors a lot of sensors and has a USB interface you can plug a PC into and run other s/w like ConZult. The only issue I found is that (for a reason I don't know) ConZult can't read everything (some stuff works, some doesn't) but other s/w does. Couldn't track that down. Possibly because (I read somewhere) the later cars used OBD2 through the port but don't quote me on that. Lymon (who pops up on here occasionally) was the original developer of ConZult so maybe he knows. http://300zx-twinturbo.com/
  5. Henri's diagnostic here http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/detonationSensor/detonationSensor.html His original "how to relocate" (better than just fooling the ECU with the resistor) seems to have dropped off the net but found a pdf of it here http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_images/Z32_Detonation_Sensor_Re-Location.pdf Plus another version http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/technical/view/786419/TECH-Detonation-Sensor-Relocation.html HTH
  6. In the past few months, I took an MG Midget for a test drive (yes, I know, but I had one back in the '80s and loved it to death) and it was the same delight to drive as I remembered. Bit later on, I tried a Porsche Boxster and thought wow, this is fun. Similar to the MG in being light, responsive, bit pointy on the steering but obviously a lot more rapid (and with more rattles and broken cheap-looking plastics than my Z). Then I got back in my Z and remembered why. As you say, it really is a GT Coupe as well as being a sports car. Feels like a proper car not just a roller-skate.
  7. I ran both for years in both TT and NA Auto (stock). The only difference I noticed was a slight improvement in mpg for V-Power 99 against ordinary Unleaded 95 but not enough to make up for the extra cost. The only time I used any cleaner was as a suggestion to clear what might have been a dirty injector but turned out to be nothing of the sort (MAF on way out). Had no discernable effect. So a tankful of unleaded to go and get to the more expensive stuff shouldn't do any harm at all - assuming all is well with the engine anyway. (PS if anyone is running modified and has a requirement for higher octane for whatever reason, I'm not arguing with you :) )
  8. Wasn't meant to. I've enjoyed a lot of my cars. even the Beetle :) Difficult to pick a favourite. Triumph Heralds. MG Midget. Capri 2.0 Ghia. MG Maestro Turbo. Calibra 16v. Rover 220 Turbo, another MG Maestro (NA). But I've had three Zeds over 20 years paid for with my own money - says something about the car and the camaraderie. Cheers :)
  9. I saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadlliac. Oh no, sorry. My head grew dizzy and my sight grew dim. ;)
  10. We've had several official Z anniversaries this year (thanks for the stickers, bgh). My Z history has had a few milestones as well. The 1999 Version S (the one that's currently for sale) turned 20 on 30 April, I reached 250,000 miles across my three Zs in March. And today is 20 years since I bought my first Z. Been on and off this forum over the years but safe to say I wouldn't have got this far without the help and advice available here. So thanks to all the good and kind people here (the rest of you can sod off :D ) it's been a pleasure. Extra kudos to JeffTT - he's looked after all 3 of my Zeds and, if he hadn't escaped to Portugal, I'd still be pestering him. (And for a bit of nostalgia, here's some pics from back in the day - sorry about the low-res, that's how the world looked back then :) ) Anyhow, cheers chaps and chapesses - happy Zedding!
  11. Good Lord - we were only talking about you last week. Happy Birthday, chap, all the bext to you and yours.
  12. This week, I had to do a reasonably long round trip - about 260 miles in a day (not counting the ferry haha) and it reminded me of quite how good the Z is to drive. I'm happy for forum members who love modifying them for different looks, power, suspension and so on. More power to your collective elbows. For me, I remain astonished as to how good these are as stock (as long as they're maintained properly). I stuck to dual-carriageways, apart from a brief bit of the M40. Lovely sweeping bends and hills. The occasional 56mph trucking mobile chicane overtaking a 55mph trucking mobile chicane just meant a few miles off the loud pedal followed by the chance to floor it. The NA sounds great and the auto pulls/responds beautifully. I had a whale of a time without driving like an idiot. The handling is just right for sustained "rapid progress", steering is well-weighted, comfy and supportive seats. It really is a pleasure to drive. Over the years, I've been across the continent (not as far as some) and up and down the UK from Cornwall to Inverness. I started with a TT Manual then 2 NA Auto and they really are great cars to drive and use. Leaving show cars and track attack weapons aside, my message is wash 'em, fill 'em up with petrol and have a (safe and legal, officer) blast. It's what they're for.
  13. I think Bustival was an earlier event.
  14. Great idea but wrong date for me - damn. I'm marshalling at this https://iwbeerandbuses.co.uk/ which is where bus nerds get the excuse to drive their pride and joys round the island ferrying hordes of beer drinkers round loads of pubs.
  15. Nice to meet some new faces - and say hi to some slightly older ones :) [video=youtube_share;7OkD5KYXOPg] [video=youtube_share;BLQQh4GhoUQ] Always like Beaulieu as a venue - especially when it's sunny! :cool2:
  16. Nice retrospective on the Z https://www.motortrend.com/news/1990-1996-nissan-300zx-buyers-guide/ plus it's got a very nice looking white Z. Reminds me of someone's but just can't think who haha :smartass:
  17. OK lads, knives out, lets blow a few weeks on a leadership contest decided by 100k old duffers then b*gger off on holiday.
  18. I was looking for some info and fell across the following which I thought I would post here. I know others have some references - I think it was something posted by AndrewG I was trying to find! - so if you want to add here, maybe this would be worth as a sticky. JDM Chassis No list taken from a Nissan FAST book 11/2000 https://z32enjoytheride.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/z32-jdm-production-numbers.pdf found on this site via TwinTurbo.net (from this I found my car was the last one made in April 1999 - probably on 30 Apr so that's now it's official birthday :) ) Also via TwinTurbo.net, VIN tables, option & model codes for USA, Canada, Europe, UK and Australia http://gtr-registry.com/en-nissan-300zx-z32.php Some production by year info which only goes up to 1998 from Zhome.com https://zhome.com/History/Zproduction.html Slightly more detailed breakdown in type and engine up to 1996 from Datsun Z Club http://300zx.cl/ga/300zx/images/serial%20number%20Datsun%20Z%20Car.htm and from same site, how to decode VIN http://www.300zx.cl/ga/300zx/images/VIN%20NUmber%20Datsun%20Z%20Car.htm Tea break over, back on your heads :)
  19. Here is my nice, clean, stock – with loads of club history and paperwork – 1999 Version S, Series 6 NA Auto. I’m putting it here first to give forum readers first crack. Just a 1999 bumper and red Z do not a true Series 6 make. Series 6 also had other stuff, better brakes, stiffer construction, gold-faced clocks and more – see here. (and JeffTT found a lightweight pulley!). Series 6 is the last model year, only on Japanese market so relatively rare. I think only around 1,000 of all specs were made (did have a link somewhere but lost it). I first saw it on this forum here in 2011 (it’s the NA, not the TT). Sudesh spotted it in a Dublin customs pound when the original importer went bust. I had my blue NA at the time but the chance to pick up a near-pristine Z with only 30,500km (BIMTA certified) on the clock was too good to miss. 1 trip to Norn Iron later (thanks Gaz 300 ), the deal is done and a few days after that, it turns up on a flatbed at JeffTT / Zedworld for cambelt and general prepping for the first UK registration. Also LED rear fogs and reverse, HID fronts. In 2011, I had it fully Waxoyled and had a front wrap. The last bits of that are coming off tomorrow as it went hazy over the years but did a good job of protecting the front. It’s the same silver as the Skyline – KR4 (yet another change for Series 6). Now I’m on an island and don’t have the commute hell of either Brent or M25 round Heathrow, I have a hankering for a manual once more. Some nice island roads over here… Come and have a look if you’re coming to Simply Japanese this weekend. Those who know me won’t be surprised to know it’s stock and has been maintained by specialists according to the service book starting with JeffTT. When it arrived in 2011, it had done less than 1,600 miles per year since it rolled off the production line. It’s my daily driver so it’s now at 176,421 km / 109,646m – not so many miles per year these days. MOT to 26 Apr 2020. No advisories, emissions OK. Next service is a 6,000m due in Dec 19. Everything works. No rattles. Idles and runs as it should. Being an NA, has a nice rasp from the original exhaust (I’m told that’s due to different headers to TT) when making good progress and it’s fun to drive, like any sorted Z. 2019 work: new injector connectors new MAF sensor new plugs new O2 sensors new fuel, oil and airfilters. 2018: new tyres all round at 168,300km. Plenty of tread left. 2017: Major timing belt and pulley, tensioner kit 2016: front brake lines, n/s track rods 2015: front Brembos 2014: front tension rod bushes, drop links, rear CV gaiters The windscreen scuttle is cracked and there’s a scuff on the bumper. Window trim is showing age. Seat fabric and steering wheel also showing age. These pics show it a little dusty – but it will be washed, polished and fluffed for the weekend. Loads of bills, the original Japanese export docs, service record and manual – hai! Well-maintained, unmolested, club history, one owner since first UK registration and available at the right price. Looking round here, I see the last good Series 6 was offered at over £8k and went for what looks like over £6.5k. Mine’s a year earlier and has done 100k more km but that should be somewhere near there. So let's start at £4,999 :) Come and see it at Simply Japanese (good excuse, eh?) otherwise means a trip to the island (another good excuse). I’ll also need a bit of time to transfer the non-included personal number plate. If the DVSA gives the original number back, it’s T reg. From Osaka to Dublin to Stroke City to the IoW – where next for this nice NA? Oh, PS. I've got another set of standard mats so those, the ones in the pic and the JVC DAB/FM/MP3/CD with Bluetooth you can see (and the DAB thing to the aerial you can't) are all included.
  20. Another white, old Etonian, male, overprivileged, upper class twit - just what this country needs. How many more PMs do they have to lose before realising what happens when you try to appease swivel-eyed loons over Europe? Unfortunately, the Labour party haven't spotted that the UK simply won't wear hard-left PMs - how many more elections do they have to lose before that gets through to them?
  21. 8) Gio (Mike) :)
  22. Thanks Howard. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
  23. Certainly do (and yes, just turned 11) - I was here http://bit.ly/2SloDYR when it was still a school. Since bull-dozed and v expensive houses instead. Watched the repeat (not allowed to stay up to watch live) in glorious 405 line black and white :)
  24. 8.15 is before my ferry leaves and there's no way I'm getting the 6.25 (not that keen :D ). Can you save me a slot at on the club pitch, please? I checked with Beaulieu and they will let me through to join you. Ticket bought and ferry booked :)
