Brake pads
Sorry I don't know what they are but the metallic ones sold by Mr F are fine for daily use and also the ones Zedworld fit. They do seem to work a tad better than OEM.

Odometer
........ link to odometer repair for 300ZX ...... Jeff said that you could get at the mechanism for cars up to S4 or 5 but for S6, they'd changed the design so it's not possible. Whatever he does worked fine for my S1 and S3 (and he gave me certificates which I passed on to the new owners) Rob, if you didn't get that edited-out link before I took it out, pm me. Oh, and after a bit of research, it is NOT legal to sell the car with a changed mileage without telling the buyer. That's fraud - even if you didn't know it had been changed http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_world/consumer_affairs/buying_second_hand_vehicles.htm#the_vehicle_had_a_false_mileage_reading from the Citizen's Advice. Couldn't find anything on VOSA, DVLA or other official site (lots of b*llocks talked on forums as usual.) Some sites say it's OK to change mileage as long as you tell buyer, others say that in itself is illegal. FoF story: bloke buys Cortina 1.6 Mk11 with low mileage and looks after it lovingly. It was a minter and after 10 years of TLC, it's still in near-showroom nick. Best one on the road. Bloke eventually decides to sell to another enthusiast but realises after 10 years of driving, the mileage has gone quite high even though the condition is much better. So he thinks, well, just take a few miles off it to get mileage in line with condition so I don't lose out. Gets the Black and Decker out and whips the speedo out of the dash, turns it over to get at the cable for the drilly trick and reads a sticker put there by previous owner Must be true, my mate in the pub told me :D

Stretching tyres
If tyres are fitted to a wheel that is outside the manufacturer's spec for that tyre then it voids your insurance, may be against Construction & Use Regs (hence illegal) and, according to one site I looked at comes under  I would also put my money (and your life) on the fact that this won't perform as well as the tyres are supposed to. Sidewalls are designed the way they are by that nice Mr Dunlop to give stiffness and support to the tread and contact patch plus, as you know from F1, form part of the dynamic suspension of your vehicle. Why would you want to f*** that up? Oh, and the stretch doesn't exactly help the bead stay where it should be (that is, firmly attached to the wheel.) Accident waiting to happen, really. For show cars, fine. For use on the Queen's Highway, no. If it doesn't come under S4a, then it deffo comes under S4b "Looking like a complete tool who has no idea of how car engineering works."

green shield stamp books
Sadly, it appears they're not worth much. eBay search. Except for nostalgia value: Happy days as a nipper getting tired tongue sticking up the books for the parents.:tt2:

Video8 or Hi8 player or camera?
Yes thanks, SCARTs, RCAs, switches, everything coming out of my ears (when you get on site at an exhibition or whatever, you never know what you've got to plug into what hoho). Ta again. Brilliant. I'm pretty sure there's some footage of me in it at least 2 stone lighter :pint: :pint: so I can remind the Mrs how devilishly slim i used to be. Or is that a good idea

Video8 or Hi8 player or camera?
Thank you thank you :flowers: FFS somehow I just knew a zedder would have the answer :thumbup1: Video8 will be fine. I'll pm you my address and when you let me know how much postage (or I can arrange a courier collection if you prefer), I'll PayPal. Promise I'll look after it. Ta. Hooray

Video8 or Hi8 player or camera?
Long shot I know but this won't be the first time somone posted a question that has nothing to do with Zeds :) Anyone got a Video8 or Hi8 player or camera (not Digital8 unless backward compatible) I can borrow/hire/buy for a few days? I just started to digitise some old tapes (incl visit to Oz to see my old Mum) and my Sony camcorder heads are u/s and beyond repair (lube contaminated heads, apparently. Yuk.) Don't really want to send tapes away if I can avoid it, they're not replaceable. I thought I'd ask just in case - always get surprised as to what the collective Zedworld has in its attic/basement/lockup :D

Saw this Cheshire event on PH today http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=23952 (not that I'm going - too far oop north :D) but fell in love with Mavis: 42 litres and 1500bhp  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packard-Bentley Just my sort of car! PS will someone please pretty please tell me how to embed YouTube clips? I've used the YouTube button, used the code wrap, tried embed, copied the code - and still no cigar. Ta.

Handbrake cables
Yep, same happened to me on my first silver one. JDM 2+2 TT Manual. After a while, the cables stretch and the adjusters run out of adjust. Then the MOT man runs out of "pass". 36531-32P10 Handbrake Cable, Z32 LH 36530-32P10 Handbrake Cable, Z32 RH For the pair a few years ago, about £90 + VAT + delivery. That was 4 years ago so best check up-to-date prices with Mr F

Customer support emergency - how far do you go?
OK, you're right gents, I'm going. Might have been a bit different if it was Penrith in Winter. Oh no, hang on, I did that as well :D Cheshire in the rain. Inverness when the bloody train broke down. Pembroke County Show got so wet, the sheep drowned. And even that beat the hell out of Staples Corner. As for Sky, I know what you mean. Used to be much more involved when you only had 5 channels in analogue. Bloody hard work then and the same today.

Customer support emergency - how far do you go?
Knotty problem on an install for one of my dealers' customers. It's for a temporary install at an event which is only on for a few days. The diagnosis of the issue should have been simple but wasn't. My support boys didn't spot it, neither did the dealer. To solve this, I need to get up at 5am and drive for a couple of hours to the south coast to get people out of a hole of their own making which should, if the checklist had been followed, have been fixed yesterday. Because it's a dealer sale, we're making peanuts and it's not our responsibility. The normal fix is to send out a new unit which would get there after the event and the daler doesn't want to come and get it. Should I do this? BTW, the customer needing support is at Goodwood Festival of Speed.... Best get an early night then :D

Monthly Pub meet
TBH Craig's list is a bit too far north so my knowledge of it is very patchy. South of the M40 I might suggest The Royal Standard Wooburn Commom Rd - seems to be well liked and has a big car park. But their website needs work! The Jolly Woodman Burnham Beeches is quite close to that and also has a big car park. Plus was featured in Genevieve! As for the Bracknellians amongst us, The Victoria Arms in Binfield is a cracking boozer but parking can be a little iffy. Although I do remember we had an annual steam-in with several traction engines filling the car park. Another Crooked Billet - this time in Honey Hill just outside Wokingham used to be a wonderful country Brakspear house with a big car park. Not been there in years so would need you to check it out first. Shame about the complete lack of carpark at the Hope and Anchor in Wokingham as that's run by a ZClub member. Wouldn't be too friendly to jam Wokingham up solid!

Monthly Pub meet
Sadly not sure this would be practical. Tiny country road and last time we went, had to park on the road. Also, beer was served waiter service and I just don't like pubs where you can't go to the bar or cellar! Dreadful shame - I remember this pub from the old days when it was a proper pub. Two front rooms and no till - just poke yer head into the cellar for another jug.

silver zed
Aha, I know where you mean. Yep, that's my way home when I'm avoiding the M4/M25 (or have been to the beer shop).

My best mate
Sorry to hear about it, Chris.

silver zed
@mental yes mate, I wasn't going to swop Zeds but the pics of this one looked so good, I had to take a hammer to the piggy bank. Unmolested and very clean and a genuine 1999. What were you doing round here? I don't usually come home through Langley but I'd been to the beer shop on the way home! @Richard I hope you realise it's all your forum's fault for letting Sudesh post those pics here... :D Yep, got the GIO plates to put on, just need to get round to the DVLA forms.

silver zed
The first in this one, anyway :D Last one, I missed back in 2008 which vijay correctly ID'ed and before that BlackMagic in 2005 also on merry A40. Still, if anyone sees a blue Series 3 L reg around these parts, not mine any more:cry: Off to a good home, I'm sure.

silver zed
Greetings mental, yep that's mine. NA, though. Better keep it clean or Sudesh will send the men with the balaclavas round

One of the best zeds in the country!
Come on chaps, be fair, the show scene is different. Show cars should be judged by different criteria than cars used daily or weekend toys or track or drift or drag. I still don't like it, but I don't like it for the right reasons (purely my own taste). The craftsmanship on it looks top quality. I'm sure the guy that built it likes the looks and I'm sure the purchaser will do too.

Standered radio/cd setup
Or that your Zed had normal speakers in the first place. But the result would be the same. If you want to pm me your chassis no, I'll look it up when I get home and confirm date of manufacture. I wonder if you could put a small power amp in the rear and take the feed from the speaker harness then drive the speakers with the amp output? Would save running new wires. Cheers - I don't mind that things don't work as long as I know why they don't work :)
-
Standered radio/cd setup
Ah, you need that adapter to get a connector for this bit on your CD That makes sense. Does your CD unit have a little wiring diag on it like this one: I think yours will be slightly different as I can't see the Power On Sig lead (which is the yellow one in my earlier pics) Oh, PS, I think that if your six way connector only has 4 wires, you may not have the rear speaker amp after all and will need a different Radio/cassette (or get a Nissan rear speaker amp but you'd need to plumb in the wires for it). If your Z is before 9/93, that would be confirmed by Mr F's info.
-
Standered radio/cd setup
The connector which has the rear speakers should (I think) be the one ringed. It doesn't look as if it has 6 wires but maybe that's just the angle. To connect to your Nissan unit(s) you should be able to lose the adapter arrowed and then they should just connect. I've looked at that adapter and it doesn't look like a Nissan ISO adapter, it looks as if it's a made-up thing with Nissan both ends. Odd. That's the theory, anyway, how does that compare to the real stuff in the boot of your Zed?

Standered radio/cd setup
And I just had some advice from Mr F (thanks Mr F) that, if fitted, the rear amp is fitted thusly: "The brackets attach to the rear of the strut tower and the inner RH rear metalwork. The Bose system option on JDM cars has the amp part built into the plastic speaker enclosure." Update from Mr F "the round version of the rear amp (28060-50P00) appears on import cars between 09/93 and 01/97. A different version (not sure whether visually similar or just different brackets, part #28060-47P00) is found on the convertible 08/92 to 01/97." So if the parts CD is to be believed, maybe rear amps (for non-Bose) were only fitted to JDM between those dates? Let me know about the wiring on the harness. Boy, Nissan haven't half worked hard to be really confusing about the audio fitments: Bose/non-Bose; rear amp / not rear amp; JDM/UK/Euro/US - all different and not very consistent :)
