Where does the Audio 2 wire run? To and from the fuse box...
In decoding the audio wiring on the Series 6, I discovered (thanks Nigel) that the later cars (perhaps from '95 or 96 onward) used the Nissan Micra connectors for the audio. (Wiring diags based on Daves_Zed's original are here.) But we also found that the wire which should be delivering 12v continuous from the battery to the stereo, isn't. So my job for next weekend is to try to get that fixed. Do any of you kind people know where this wire should run so I can trace it? I think it should be the wire that is connected to the AUDIO 2 fuse. Is there anything else which is normally connected to this feed and have any of you had a problem with it? Oh, and how do I get the panel under the dash beneath the steering wheel off? I noticed the two obvious screws but something else was still holding on. Thanks, Gio

Happy Birthday Yowser

so who wants a titanium key?
The tweed's fine. But I bet I can beat your key cutting prices. Local Timpson's in Burnham wouldn't charge anything because I didn't buy the blank from him. No charge, he said, just stick something in the charity box. Blimey. And yes, it was one of these new titanium OEM copies.

Using a cheap N/A auto as a daily driver?
Hi Dave, I do Colnbrook to Staples Corner daily in my NA Auto and have done since I sold the TT manual. Because of the traffic, switched to Auto and because of the maintenance/petrol/heat, switched to NA. It's a 50 mile round trip and if that's all I do, fill up once a week. Mileage in sig and best ever (long legal motorway) 28mpg. The reliability depends. 1) how many "modifications" (a lot of mods rarely improve reliability or mpg) 2) how well maintained and 3) remember how old they are. I've used a Z as daily driver for 12 years. Not as reliable as a new modern car for sure but I'm still doing it! I would say that if you are looking at a really cheap one, the risks go up but then a few years ago, Pete in the ZClub bought what he cheerfully described as a "shed" for £800 and had loads of fun. But then he knows what he's doing and I don't. "Fairlady" is what all Z and ZX cars were called in Japan from the beginning. In fact Datsun called their sports cars "Fairlady" even before there were ANY Zeds. SPL212 1960 My advice is don't go cheap if you want a daily driver and avoid too many / badly done mods. But then I would say that as I am selling my blue NA Auto daily driver! At least it knows most of the way for your commute, it sounds like. Cheers - Gio

Number Plate Dimensions
This definition uses the slightly looser wording of "cannot accomodate" rather then "preclude" but there it is in black and white from DVLA, officer.

I carry this lot in the glovebox for exactly that reason! DVLA Number plates 3.PDF

Number Plate Dimensions
Rich666, you are exactly right. The whole issue comes down to the interpretation by the MOT inspector or plod or magistrate of this bit What does "preclude" mean? In the case of our rear plates, the space in the bumper physically prevents the use of UK plates or UK characters on import plates (spacing is not possible to be legal for UK font on 13" x 7" plate). So clearly import font on import plate is legal. In the case of our front plates, is there anything which physically prevents use of a UK size plate? Not usually. Does the design of the area available for fixing prevent the use of a UK size plate? Well, stretching a point, possibly. 2 possible reasons. If they agree this "precludes", you're legal. If they say this does not preclude, you're not. 1) The size of the plinth is only 330mm wide on a JDM '99 spec bumper so a wider plate is clearly not intended to go on there. 2) The air gap in the bumper would be obstructed by use of a bigger plate so we have to use the smaller one. (Luckily he didn't know about the UK plinth which completely obstructs the air gap which I claimed needed not to be). I used "2" OK three years ago with my MOT person and got away with it on a normal bumper with a legal plate from http://www.craigsplates.com (not stopped by the boys in blue touch wood so haven't had to try it on with them). And with the new silver one, Craigsplates are also happy to make a legal import font size front to match the plinth on the 99-spec bumper. I have a shorter reg no with only two numbers after the year letter and one of those is 1 so it will legally fit (three numbers wouldn't). Even with a legally made plate (makers, BSI, postcode etc) it will come down to whether or not Mr Official agress with the strict or not-so-strict meaning of "preclude". M'lud.

LED Front fog lights (Test subject Mr Joely P)
I guess being a serial Zedder takes the curse off. . There's enough LEDs in there for a scrolling alpha display. Can you put up "MOVE OVER" in reverse? Now there's a product idea .....

LED Front fog lights (Test subject Mr Joely P)
As long as they do actually put out a decent amount of light on the road. Think the Z idea is excellent. That would be Z for sidelights and all LEDs for fog?

Have a few more left Sky offer.
Yes, you can get HDMI to VGA like the one you just posted but, because they need to decode the digital and then convert to analogue, they're much more expensive than a straight format change (eg HDMI DVI although even that misses a bit off). It is a lot to pay to degrade the signal from digital to analogue! @mac300zx, I know this is not why you posted and if you're happy with your projector than you shouldn't have to change it if you don't want to. But as and when you do choose to change, you will find that the HDMI out of the Sky Box will give you MUCH better quality when fed into an HDMI projector. Better than HDMI converted to analogue component and much better than component to component. General rule is don't convert signals if you can possibly avoid it and stick to the original format as much as possible (i.e. digital TV looks better when HDMI throughout).
