Just got stuck in a lift
Only 5 or 10 mins? Think you got off lightly :D. To add to the Schindler's lift story, it is claimed that some USA companies like to answer the phone by announcing the company name and location in a cheery voice. One of the other famous lift companies (the four letter one beginning with "O") had a UK office in that Berkshire town just off J10/11/12 of the M4. Ring 'em up and they answered "Otis, Reading". Allegedly.

personal number plates
From https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/assigning-a-personalised-number-to-a-vehicle And you need to send the V5C so the age of the car on the V5C is the one they will use, not the first registered date.

Thatcham certified alarm installer NW or W of London?
Hi Vijay, is that Custom Exotics in Harlow? Hi z32bolt, yes there are a whole bunch around but I'd prefer to find someone who knows a bit about Zeds, how to get door cards off etc etc. The bloke I usually use is off-the-road atm.

Any forum recommendations for someone who knows Zeds and door servos within easy reach of Slough or NW2? Ta, Gio

Waterless cooling.
Glycol may be great for Merlins but ask any ground crew or pilot who caught a faceful. Nasty stuff. Let's get a bit of reality in here. Any country who made aeroplanes in 39/45 knows about the benefits of glycol in internal combustion cooling. I suspect that may have included Japan. Had it been a good thing to use in normal use, do you not think Nissan might have used it themselves? Or Rolls-Royce, or whoever it was made the P-45 Mustang etc etc? Anyway, point being that anyone who claims adding anything to glycol will take away its toxicity is either stupid or deliberately lying and I would measure their other claims on the same scales.

Waterless cooling.
Aha, here we go. Sounds familiar? s from a Welsh company claiming EPA approval. Nice one lads, EPA is US and has no applicability over here. You can not "render" Ethylene Glycol non-toxic. Drink a few litres and call me a liar. (No, don't. Please really don't.) Ethylene Glycol is, to quote Wikipedia So if their publicity material is that accurate when talking about toxicity, what do you think about the rest of it?
-
Waterless cooling.
Well it looks ideal for people who believe that "Water contains Oxygen which encourages corrosion". Glycol (as used in Sptfires dontchaknow old bean) also contains oxygen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylene_glycol Plus I have trouble in reconciling "non-toxic liquids blended with a non-aqueous proprietary inhibitor package." and "patented DeTox™ additive" and "has been classified as Non-Toxic by an EPA certified laboratory" and " However as with all chemicals, do not consume. Keep away from children. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Rinse hands and eyes with water after incedental contact." I don't know of any non-oxygen containing chemicals which can be turned into non-toxic just by adding a patented additive. It looks as if they're using a mix of glycol-ish type stuff to up the boiling point. These engines get hot enough as it is so why would you want to increase the running temp under your bonnet. If it really did work, they could explain it with far fewer buzzwords. If it sounds like bullshit, if it smells like bullshit and if it reads like bullshit, it's probably bullshit. I'm in marketing, I should know :D

Private plates - Why on earth would you??????????????
Nononono two wheels first :) Famous baby sitters should be another thread - my mum tells me I was baby sat by Wanda Ventham which will only mean anything to those who remember Dr Who in black and white, Space 1999 and The Prisoner. Don't google your baby sitters, by the way, just found out she's Sherlock Holmes's mother and boy does that make me feel old.... Oh, and UFO

Stepping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft is never a good idea but this? !
And now live http://www.redbullstratos.com/live/ 52,000 feet up and heading for 120,000 before stepping off the ledge. Sheesh. Great live streaming feed, though.

Private plates - Why on earth would you??????????????
Good old Stavros used to have PEN 15 (saw him on the roadside coming back from Thruxton many moons ago having discussion with the boys in blue about his plate. Story from MCN chaps was he was done under obscene publications act - probably untrue but nice story).

One question about OBD-II
That wikipedia entry must be ref the US market. My 1999 Series 6 (god I love typing that) has normal Consult port (eg not OBD11). There is a PDA version but it is only for early PDAs with serial connector http://www.ecutalk.com/compatibility.aspx . Works, though.

Sticky accelerator pedal
My throttle pedal once jammed wide open while pulling onto the motorway. "Interesting" on a TT to say the least. As it turned out, wasn't the pedal, it was the thing at the other end where the throttle cables pull on the actuator and when floored, the actuator was pulled just a wee bit too far so the return spring didn't. Bit of adjustment and it was OK. Maybe your cables / actuators are sticking somewhere, not the pedal?

Essex Mechanic and Wheel Alignment
Hi Richard, yep, fine thanks just intercoursingly busy. Hi Vijay, Derek said he would go anywhere in London as long as not through Congestion Zone. I might not drag him all the way over here just for an oil filter change, though!

best ever concerts top 3
There was a series of concerts one Xmas / New Year in the late '70s in Olympia called (I think) the Great British Music Festival. In fact, a bit of googling and here's the handbill! And Budgie were a last minute addition. We went on the New Year's Eve so that's Thin Lizzy, Budgie, Steve Marriott, Steve Gibbons, Climax Blues Band and Status Quo all in one day. Empire Pool (now known as Wembley Arena) in '74 Welcome Back My Friends to the Show that Never Ends, Ladies and Gentlemen, Emerson Lake and Palmer.... And just to show we still go out these days, Three Bonzos and a Piano at Windsor last month. Hi there, happy you could stick around, like to introduce Legs Larry Smith, drums... http://www.threebonzosandapiano.co.uk [video=youtube_share;8DUEAG5eO6c] PS Steams, was that the Animals Tour?

Essex Mechanic and Wheel Alignment
Can recommend the following: Derek Wilkinson Mobile Car Mechanic based out of Colchester http://www.derekjwilkinsonmobilecarrepairs.co.uk/ Website is just standard template stuff but Derek himself seems very conscientious, works on classic cars in general and also a 200, another 300 and, I think a 350. Did a standard service on mine and I was impressed with his attention to detail. Don't get him talking about adjusting tappets on a Chevy, though :) No idea how much of a detailed Z expert he is but he has MJP Auto to call on so that should be a pretty good combination. Also, this lot http://www.thomsonlocal.com/Led%20Part%20Worn%20Tyres/0110628407508120000/companyinfo.html LED Tyres in Ingatestone sorted out a tracking issue for me and, by all accounts, know how to set up a HICAS system as well. Thanks also due to MJP Auto for usual top advice and assistance. Might come in handy for those on that side of the metropolis. Cheers, all

Red L reg in Iver KwikFit
Keep meaning to ask this as I've seen it there loads of times. At the Kwik Fit that used to be, IIRC, Charlie's Tyres and just up the road from the pub that used to be called the Gurkha (Chef & Brewer, Red Lion or something now).

Couple of office job(s) might be coming up in NW London in month or so
Well, It's actually got nothing to do with Zs per se but for some unknown reason, over the years, the people who have done work for my company whether project, part time or full-time have been better value and done a better job than "normal" recruitment. No idea why but there you go. (And some of you know who you are :) Ta  ) So now, since we could well have a couple of posts coming up in north London by the end of the summer, I thought I'd inviite any 300ZX forum member who might be interested to bung me off a PM or even a CV. Not vastly over-paid (I wish) but anyone who thinks they can process sales orders, deal with customers and dealers on the phone/by email, can spell "Sage Line 50" and has a faint interest in broadband and/or Zeds will at least get a friendly read of their CV. Anyone who can cope with this "drone-level" position with a sense of humour, friendly disposition and not send orders out without the purchase order clipped to it so we get paid, gets my vote. Cheers, Gio

does anyone actually like this new site format
It's a pretty early one but don't know if it was the first. AndyP pre-dates me (in fact he pre-dates just about everyone hoho - excuse me for the unjustifiable personal slander :D )

Broadband speed arghhhhh
Nearly right, of the bridge not the router but as you say, not the computer. Will do. Some VPNs / thin clients work OK but latency is a prob for others as you say. OTOH, if the choice is dial-up / crap ADSL or you need redundant backup, it should be fine. PM on way.
