Old discussion but......
Hmmm. That was a UK plinth from MJP so the plinth should be the same - but you're right about the plate. I forget what we did but if you compare to yours, the spacing above/below the letters is minimal (prob not legal) so maybe we did cut it down or something.

Here you go - two side by side as a comparison: and a slightly better shot showing the UK plinth head on. I know Richard just posted his but these things just look so much better in silver. Oh, that's a different argument thread :D

What is it with a lot of Z owners these days
TopChilla and FunkySi have a point. Funnily enough I was thinking of adding that to my "Zed Heresies" page which I haven't written yet (which also includes dump valves are a waste of time, the auto-box is perfectly good as long as maintained properly, UK rear tyres are not wider than JDM and actually the pre-99 spec front bumper looks better). So here's a challenge: can anyone here prove that any modification / aftermarket add-on has improved the value of the car by as much as it cost?

Old discussion but......
The best looking solution to the front numberplate (a legal one, anyway) has to be the OEM UK one where the plinth exactly matches the charcoal strip on the front bumper. Not even the Japanese plate looks good on that or the 99 spec one. TBH, I'm not that bothered about how the front plate looks as I can't see it when I'm in the Z.

Compact/Slim 4 channel amplifiers
Should be good. Sony usually makes a good piece of kit and here's why. [video=youtube_share;EQa4HHkhwVg]

Compact/Slim 4 channel amplifiers
But just interrupted my editing! Haha. Anyhoo all I had to say, this explains how easy it is for snake oil sellers to get into audio overclaims (says someone who used to work for Amstrad :) and even we were relatively technically accurate).

Compact/Slim 4 channel amplifiers
If you check the spec sheet from Andrew it specifically says 35 watts per channel minimum RMS. So nearly twice as powerful as your existing. From the depths of my audio geek past, RMS is higher figure than the actual continuous power (sine wave measurement vs DC equivalent) so I'm not surprised an amp rated at continuous 20W is also 35W RMS. And that's without going into Peak Music Power Output PMPO which is "think of the figure you'd like then double it" market-droid speak. You also need to be sure that (like the Sony) the impedance is the same when comparing powers (both figures quoted into 4 ohms) and the distortion % is the same - which gives an indication of how "hard" the amp is working. So you'll get lower power figures if you test the amp at, say .05% THD compared to .5%. and let's not get into the definitions of "distortion". http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090108114331AALY08t is fairly sane as is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_power although my memory disagress with wiki on the equivalence of continuous with RMS.

Compact/Slim 4 channel amplifiers
If you run any of these high-power amps, be sure your alternator / battery / wiring are up to the job. W = V x A so 75W x 4 ch = 300W (assuming at full chat and your ears would be bleeding). 300W from a 12v source = 25A

Oem pinstripe
Sounds like prime criteria for being a Zed owner in the first place. And yes, you can call me a tad anal if you want (I prefer CDO - that's like OCD but with the letters in the right order) - who else would keep invoices from the rebuild of their first Zed over 10 years ago? Look on the bright side, at least you now know the right part numbers of what you don't want to buy. Mike at MJP thought I needed my head examined too at the time and would almost certainly use a substitute next time.

A couple of Z pics in Hurley this morning....
Which one ;) Richard's looks well polished. My previous Zed was that blue - once described by AndyP (his is same colour) as the sort of blue that looks a million dollars when freshly polished in the sun under blue skies but looks sh1te any other time so full marks to RFS.

Looking for a new zed and spotted this !
Is that a button just to the right of the gear selector on the console itself? (Not the normal JDM Power rocker, the thing to the right of that).

TV aerial alternatives
Without an aerial, you're talking about satellite or IPTV (via your broadband) or Virgin cable. The easy free satellite solution is Freesat as has been pointed out before. Satellite dish with 180 ish channels although there are a lot of niche / filler channels - how many shopping or adult do you actually want? Don't answer that. It does have CBS Action, though, which has reruns of the digitally-remastered Star Trek TOS harrumble. It also has free HD Channels: BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, CBBC, CBeebies, News, ITV, C4 and a couple of foreign RT HD, NHK HD. If you want more HD than thta, you'll have to pay for it (eg subscription). Some boxes (like Manhattan/It also has a couple of the IP players - BBCiPlayer and ITV Player so if your broadband is up to it, you can get them on your TV like you can on your PC. http://www.youview.com is a terrestrial digital system where you get all the Freeview channels and a lot of the free IP Players and backwards-EPG and stuff. Most of th suppliers are trying to wrap this up with your broadband / phone deal so if you're looking to change that, might be worth looking at. But it's on an aerial so if you don't want to put another one up... For UK satellite subscription, there's really only one choice and that's that nice Mr Murdoch at Sky. If you can get Virgin cable, compare the costs between these. Remember, the "free" boxes have to be paid for somehow so they're tied into / paid within your subs cost. Now things get more complicated. There are thousands of free TV channels out there on satellite but accessing them is not as simple - you have to get more involved, be more technically aware and probably have a bigger, more expensive dish with a motor or multiple LNB. This does include lots of French, btw. The most common satellite positions would probably be (and I'm not as up-to-date on the TV side of satellite as I was) 19.2E Astra, 13E Hot Bird and 28.2 Astra. You can see exactly what they are transmitting by a site like http://www.lyngsat.com/index.html 28.2 http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A-and-Astra-1N-2A-2F.html 19.2 http://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-1KR-1L-1M-2C.html 13 http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-Hot-Bird-13B-13C-13D.html http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/France.html Things to look for are whether it's digital or not (DVB - most are but still some old school analogue - I keep my old Manhattan analogue for watching RTL from Germany as it had free F1 in 2013. Let's hope the same in 2014) and also the Encryption column as it tells you if the channel is free. But even once you've chosen the channels / satellites you want, there are 2 other complexities: tuning and positioning. 1) If you have a Freesat box, the tuning is taken care of by the Freesat EPG (Electonic Program Guide). If they add/delete channels, just rescan and it's done. But even if your box (like my Manhattan HDR-S) can tune non-Freesat channels on the same satellite, it's a manual process and I have to know what I'm looking for then do a lot of favourite channel editing to get rid of the stuff I don't want. 2) Position: you can have a big dish (say 80cm) and multiple LNBs if you have an LNB switch either external or internal to your box. Or a motorised dish with a positioner system either external or internal to your box. But what happens is that the boxes which have internal LNB switches or positioners (so you can switch to the different satellites) tend not to have the Freesat EPG - and the boxes which do have specific EPGs - Freesat boxes and Sky boxes won't usually have LNB switches or positioners because they're intended for use with the Freesat or Sky systems. So if you're happy with a more complex system, there's a lot out there to look at. But if you want to keep it simple, look at the alternatives: Freesat, Sky, Virgin (and YouView, Freeview for terrestrial through an aerial) and stick with them. I don't know enough about IPTV to say if it's stable or practical enough as yet - and it will use a lot of your broadband. If you want more detailed advice for your particular location, make sure you ask a competent installer - I would never get an install for either aerial or dish from anyone other than CAI registered http://www.cai.org.uk http://www.cai.org.uk/members/member-search - or you could give http://www.eurosat.com/branches a call - they're a trade supplier but might now a decent installer in your area.

Strange Z32 speedo cluster on ebay.
That's a point worth bearing in mind. I've never been able to get a satisfactory answer about where the power steering "reads" the speed of the car - whether it is before or after the effects of any converter. This might explain odd steering effects if, eg, the power steering thinks it's doing 80kph when it's really 80mph. Or the other way round. On my first Z, I just had the dial fitted. And yes mmHg is JDM On my current Z, I've just left them alone (no aftermarket equivalent for the S6) and get the speed from ECUTalk anyway, officer.

gathering in their masses...
Off to the O2 tonight for another one on our "must see these guys before one of us dies" list. [video=youtube_share;f-wuiXEgM6M]http://youtu.be/f-wuiXEgM6M All hail the original heavy metal band. Oyster topped up, check; earplugs for the missus, check; my old denim jacket - well, er, I know where it is but it seems to have shrunk several sizes just sitting in the wardrobe for a few decades. Can't think how that happened.

Happy Birthday Steve Burns

Hi
Great, that should do it. I was about to suggest actually going to the DVLA office as there's a Norwich one when I found no, there isn't any more. In fact there aren'e tny? https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dvla-local-office-closure-plan-announced FFS - another "in order to improve service to our customers, we are going to close all our customer service desks" scheme. What would Alan Partridge say?

Hi
Can't find the right page on HMRC to tell if this is still the right one - but it's the one I used in 2011. Maybe quote the ref at the bottom of the page to the VAT helpline would let them confirm? VAT+414+-+Motor+vehicles+brought+into+the+UK+from+within+the+European+Community.pdf

Good insurance company?
Adrian Flux was very competitive for my daily driver quote last month. As was http://www.livingstones-insurance.co.uk/ I think Livingstones have classic (i.e. 2nd car limited mileage) as do http://www.lynbrookins.co.uk/ Good luck

Hi
Yes, he's a good bloke. Driveway's too short for a proper test drive tho' :) Had a quick delve in the files and they have changed the guide on the web but should be much the same https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/overview For my V55/5 DVLA Application for first tax disc and registration, I needed: valid documentation confirming the vehicle keeper's name and address (can't remember - passport? Driving licence?) the duty payable (cheque) valid insurance cert customs form (VAT 414 Motor vehicles brough into the UK from within the EC) and there was a form proving VAT had been paid on the import into Republic of Ireland (can't remember where I got that, think Sudesh gave it to me). Didn't need SVA or anything like that. Then just rolled up at Birmingham DVLA office conveniently close to Zedworld, handed it all in and waited. I'll double check the files whenI get home tonight. It was actually much simpler than I worried about. Cheers

Hi
Sure, pm me if you need to. I imported mine from Sudesh and sounds as if came the same route. The paperwork went through smoothly, hopefully yours will too now.
