99 Spec 300zx
Reading in mph is one thing but having the legend on the clock say "mph" as opposed to "kph" is another. When I got mine, I did find a dial face place in the UK which would clone the gold face but I needed to get them out and send them off, then pay through the nose for the privilege of having them prototype something they could then sell! So I didn't. My solution to mph indication is this: Which also reads error codes and other stuff as well. So my clocks are original OEM in kph. The red illumination is great as is some of the warning lights (hold, o/d, power etc) coming up in the clocks themselves. My guess is that roobarb's and Baz's may read in mph (converter) but the legend still says km/h.

AT gearbox question
It's simply amazing how many people don't bother to search using the forum search function. Sticking in power hold button gives FIVE pages of threads. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/search.php?searchid=1109286&pp= with the earliest one going back to 2002! Of course not all of these are just to do with auto trans buttons because search isn't that clever but since there is a search, why not use it :headvswal (oh and several times, I find google can pick up stuff from this forum just as well / better). Two posts from the past: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?23177-Power-Hold-switch&p=180910&viewfull=1#post180910 And from AndyP in 2003 http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?19702-A-T-Button-Power-and-Hold&p=148880&viewfull=1#post148880 It's even in the manual so can't think why anyone has a problem: :devil2: Still it isn't as bad as the interminable insurance questions when every time I see one I think Oh FFS doesn't anyone bother to use search and please please can we have just one thread for insurance. :D Plus I hadn't heard JeffTT's explanation that Hold can be used as econ mode so I will try that out for a couple of tanks and see if it works. There you go, you can teach an old dog new tricks and sometimes posting the same bloody question gets new info. Thanks laner84.

Got a kitten - bloody thing has chewed all of its neutering stitches out!
Ahh bless. Twiglet? I can see why. But one of the very few bits of advice my old man gave me which were any good was Quite why he then named my favourite black cat "Cho-cho-san" is beyond me (one for the opera buffs, there).

zeds against the rest
"Dollar for dollar, it's the best damn sports car in the world." Motor Trend's accolade for the 300ZX in 1990. Someone posted it here recently, IIR. Hang on. Oh yep, daZvert http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?174998-bought-this-old-mag-off-ebay-%29&highlight=motor+trend Plus, at the time, the 300ZX was the most expensive and the fastest Japanese car offered in the UK. £34,500. Which in today's money is (depending on which inflation figures you believe) £54,000. And a quick search brings up this page http://www.carpages.co.uk/car-prices/car-prices-coupe-50000-plus-1.asp so that is today's level of where the Zed was in the market back then. Plus the Z line has unparalleled sporting and competition heritage. Not sure many other sports coupes can claim the same. Porsche? For sure. Lotus? well probably but never shifted the numbers that Z/ZX have (also Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious).

What did you do to your zed today?
Drove her to Guildford for someone else to do the hard work :) "A" Service and plug change. Thanks, Ben. See you at MOT time. BTW if you're going to have a room for customers to chill out in, put a freaking door on it because there's chilling out and jesus christ it's cold in here :surrender:

Decision to remove veilside kit and return to Original......
I think you just found our theme song  This is the Z preservation society... [video=youtube_share;aIechPy5ycc] Now all we need is a red, white and blue Zed and someone with a video camera. Anniversary project anyone?

My Z's Near Miss 04.11.13
Hi Adam, I've had a few dings and bigger respray jobs on both silver (not current one touch wood) and blue Zeds and all of the body shops used have been able to match 15 year old paint let alone 12 months. In fact, on the blue one, they even asked did I want it official Nissan paint code colour or match the actual colour. I don't know what the rules are in Oz but I would be very disapppointed in colour matched that badlly and, if they are a professional repair shop, they should know that "we did it to the paint code and not the actual colour" is, as we say over here, a load of dingo's kidneys. Good luck.

ZX specialist around Heathrow west london area??
You never know, there's always scope for improvement. But that is why I like the guys like Jeff TT and Euro-Spec (I'm sure Jimmer and others also but don't have any direct knowledge) because they keep the faith.

bought this old mag off ebay :)
Is that the one that said "Dollar for dollar, the 300ZX is the best damn sports car in the world"? (I do enjoy typing that :) )

ZX specialist around Heathrow west london area??
I went to them way back when to see if they knew anything about Zeds. Blank looks. Lots of Scoobies, IIRC. That was many years ago so would be interested to hear if they've changed.

Now with the size of our engine bay ....
OK, if it's a "1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine called DIG-T R that puts out 400 hp", what's 3 x 2 and 1.5 x 2 and 400 x 2? Put 2 of'em on the same crank and should be 3l V6 with 800hp. What other car runs a 3l V6 ?:dots:

giving up smoking.
Took me a couple of goes but eventually worked out. Give yourself a good long hard stare in the mirror and decide if you want to be in control of what you do or if you want cigarettes to be in charge. Once you've made that decision, everything else is just props to help you stick to it. I used gum and the inhalers (pre-vaping). Gum helps with the "doing things with your hands" habit as well as the nicotine. Major benefit is you don't have to clean your car windscreen nearly as often! Good luck.

oil pressure
Only for Newtonian fluids and most honey varieties are non-Newtonian thixotropic. And blood is only sometimes thicker than water because it's a pseudoplastic non-Newtonian (shear thinning) where viscosity decreases with increased shear rate. BTW while googling for references I found this one which cheered me no end http://www.seesawmagazine.com/viscosity_pages/viscosity_5.html

That's as bad a tautology as Socialist Worker

Let that be a lesson to me - brain in gear before posting :) BTW, I just found if you google in a devious way, you can find the forum archive with posts going back to 2002! http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/archive/index.php/f-2.html and this one made me laugh 'cos it didn't half remind me of ... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?14281-FAO-Nelson-Mainfella

Do alarm installers don't give a toss !
That's where I started :) too worried to do anything, left it to professionals (inc someone who used to trade on here) and got that sort of mess. Only solution is to find the wiring diagram, take a deep breath, carefully take out anything that isn't Nissan (identify and label anything you still need so you can put it back properly) and wire it back up properly. I am no electrician but with the aid of a mate who had the right stuff (and a meter) and a spare afternoon or two, we had the time and motivation to get it right. Time pressures lead to short cuts and bodges which then get worse the next time a "professional" gets in there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_law_of_business_balance "There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person's lawful prey." Otherwise known as "buy cheap, buy twice". BTW, it's not just so-called professionals but also well-meaning-but-lazy-or-slapdash-hobbyists as evidenced by the cr4p I took out of my zeds before I went OCD on the loom and actually found out what was there and got the right adapters before hacking the loom and hoping.
