  1. Ah, i shall align it at the steering rack then. There is this electrical widget on the rack that i did think what it does, i guess it could be HICAS related. And on the way back from Wales this weekend the HICAS red light came on for the first time!

I was in Port Talbot - Cardiff area today in my wine red SWB TT that has a big spoiler on the back - reg J89 LTR :)
  3. Howdy all, first off - thanks for the advice in the past, really saved my ass when i got too enthusiastic trying to maintain my car. Reet - after messing about with the steering rack my steering wheel is not aligned correctly so that when the wheel are straight the steering wheel is sort of in a right hand turn position. I could remove the steering rod from the rack and fiddle with that plastic index thing but can i remove the steering wheel and put it on so its 'straight' on.
  4. I went to Cardiff for a short weekend break with a lady friend and i did a fuel economy experiment. Doing driving miss daisy mode i got 410 miles from a full tank in my SWB jap import TT :hyper: However to get that and for the boost pressure needle to stay on bottom i really had to take it easy and do about 65mph on average on the A roads and motorways lol. Vigorous driving on a motorway run normally gets me 290 miles.
  5. Thanks, i used the zed car jack on top of a brick to hold the steering ball joint thingy firmly in the suspension arm. The nut screwed on fine :) I only replaced the passenger side steering bush, the drivers side one was to hard to do. The bracket on the passenger side bush i could not get the one end touching the bit it should screw onto - there is about 4mm gap with the bolt thread visible. I -really- tightened the bolt with a 2ft socket set bar. To my best estimate of 80lbs torque, as if i was at the gym. I think if i tightened it a lot more trying to get past the gap i would damage the steering rack.
  6. Thank you but now i have another - big problem. I disconnected the steering rack arm from the wheel suspension strut thing and i cant screw the thing back on! The bolt did have this clip, wire thing wound around the gaps in the bolt. I removed that - too hastily. And now i want to put that nut back on the bolt part, the nut just goes on one turn then spins around with the bolt thread! the bolt does have a hole in it that the wire circlip thingy went through. Picture of the nut:- At the moment i cant secure the steering rack end to the suspension strut :(
  7. Also if you take the glass panels of your roof and put the windows down make sure your car interior is not cluttered with litter. First time i drove my zed with the top off 2 weeks ago lots of crap was flying around and i had a carrier bag stick on the front of my face - not good!
  8. Yep. Left bush on that pic a doddle, right one i am no where near close to removing never mind getting the replacement on. However the original bush's 'appear' in good order, not cracked or deformed at all. I shall certinly replace the left one. But after looking at some really uneven wear on the front tyres i am fairly sure my wobbly ride issue is due to the tracking, alignment being wrong after my crash into a barrier last october duh!
  9. Often before splitting a partition it needs to be defragmented so there are no clusters of files sprinkled all over the drive. If the drive is defragmented and a say chkdsk /f c: has been run there should not be a problem splitting the partition with a newer version of PM that can handle NTFS or FAT paritions.
  10. I have some new steering bush's. The one on the passenger side is a doddle to get of and replace. But how the rubber duck do you wiggle the steering rack so the drivers side steering bush can be removed and replaced. I also have disconnected the steering rack rods from the wheel mount\brake disc area. I have given the rack some serious welly with a crowbar but the rack wont budget enough.
  11. Just bashing a piece of metal is not going to keep jobs in the UK. And we have never really been anygood at owning and running mass manufacturing industry. But foriegn owned manufactures with plants in the UK works well. We are now making more cars here in the UK since the early 70's. As a Brummie the demise of Rover was sad but they made crap cars - the management was crap, workers not motivated as they could be and you could smell the decay in the air at Longbridge, ive been there and saw it. However doing specialised small to medium engineering and manufacturing the UK can excel at. We have the most expertise in the world at motorsport. I have friends and relatives in engineering. The good ones have not had a problem getting a new job with some reskilling in CAD and CAM.

hehe yes i spend about £50 a week on fuel for my zed. But it give me the king of the road feeling. And i am not a regular pub goer, night cluber.. gagh i cant lie im a computer geek who spends most of my spare time playing EVE on the internet!
  13. Saw this one today at 12:15 abouts when i was driving my wine red SWB TT :hyper:

My zed is my everyday car. But as work is only 12 miles away and with general social driving i do about 220 miles a week which is fine i think with 45K miles on the clock. I dont push it hard really, just enjoy the feeling of having a load of power ready if i need it :)
  15. hey im worried did clarkson mean that the 300zx will become an illegal road car cos of its emisions?
  16. Mine was KLF what time is love. That was wicked.
  17. Reg plate began with GE. I would have honked my horn but wally me was driving my dads clapped out Citroen Xantia cos i lost the only key to my steering lock duh! Found it now though.
  18. Global Underground Tokyo 2001 with Sasha, Oakenfold
  19. The new PC will defo have an IDE interface as the CD or DVD drive will connect through that. Try disconnecting the CD drive and connect the hard disk to it. Make sure the jumpers on the hard disk are set to something like 'master' or 'single drive'
  20. Cuz the Zed has such long legs, when you rag it you only need 5th gear after 140mph i wonder what the benefits of a 6 speed box are.
  21. Fords of old had very good gearboxes for sure gear change. My first car was a Ford Orion that had a brilliant gearbox, though the rest of the car was from the Flintstones.
  22. Mine is good apart from when i try to shift from 2nd to 3rd fast and miss the change. But im getting better
  23. With £30K i would get either a BMW M5 or one of them 'R' spec Honda NSX's to be imported from Japan.
  24. Also Norton Systemworks is hand of satan. Jo average installs it on their PC, systemworks plungs its evil tentacles into all the networking and other stuff and lo you often end up with an unusable PC. AVG antivirus, Adaware spyware checker, Run windows update once a week - is the easiest way to keep your pc tip top.
  25. The Ford Focus has got good handling if you get used to the body roll though the standard engines have no oomph at all. But yeah the old RWD fords with tunable engines were wicked. But open the bonnet on any new car now and you see lots of yucky plastic manifolds and covers. And sadly most young lads (chavs?) would prefer to make the car look fast rather than shoving some huge webber carbs on the engine like car enthusiasts of old would.
