I can't believe I'm typing this but.........
Thanks guys, At the moment it's a toss up between Florida, Canada and the Balearics......in fact I'm off to the Med in a couple of weeks to do some serious research. The internet is great but no substitute for being on the ground. Then Florida after that. I was in Canada at the end of last year on the same exercise. An odd mix I grant you but we've had it with this place. I think the US and Canada would be a real problem but with the Balearic Islands keeping it might be a possibility. Of course I'm NOT basing the choice on whether I could keep the Z or not !! :D :D :D It would break my heart to sell her ! Mark

I know you never get back what you put in but it's got loads of goodies on it - including the paint !! £5k ? Maybe ? Mark

Auto to Manual conversion question
I had mine done by Luke at Zcentre but supplied all the bits myself from a scrapped car I found in a yard. When I told my insurance company (Admiral) they told me it would raise the insurance group from 20 to 39 !! I told them they could stick that and I would be cancelling immediately - the response "Let me have another look at that for you sir........ok on this occassion we'll keep the rating where it is" They tried the same thing when I changed the colour ! I told them that on both occassions the new colour / manual gearbox were all Nissan parts and if I'd looked hard enough could have found a car already done and that wouldn't have been quoted as a group 39 - which they couldn't deny !! But haveing said all that I love it as a manual !! Except when I'm stuck in traffic - which is a lot around here !! Mark

strut brace
Trust me it's like a steel girder ! I doubt there's another on the market as strong - although I've not done any comparison tests obviously :D I've attached some other pics....... I got mine in the US but I think they are available over here too - I'm sure someone else on here got the same one of UK eBay.

Distribution of wealth?
I know of two kids locally that are PAID to go to school FFS !!!!! What is this place coming too ???? It's indicative of a complete loss of any idea of what is right and wrong ! I'm not saying that the Tories and right wing policies are neccessarily perfect but New Labour socialism is a joke ! In the news today it has cost us £1billion to part privatise the London Underground ! WHAT ????? HOW ?????? It doesn't make any sense these days no matter how you look at it all. Just my tw'penneth worth...... Mark

luke @ Z centre

mortgages
hmph while I just get up on my soap box........ Right.........the problem with the housing market today is that it no longer bears any relation to earnings. It used to be that you could get 3 x income or 2 & 1/2 x joint, or something like that. What that meant was house prices roughly related to a household income. But greedy lenders saw an opportunity to make ever more profits out of their customers by kind of looking the other way on income multiples, upping the multiples or simply offering non-status loans. Either way this meant that with more funds available the price of houses was inevitably going to rise far faster than the rise in incomes. In reality it doesn't really matter to most people what their house is worth. It's not cash in your pocket. You can only really realise any cash by either selling up and going in to rented or trading down. Neither very attractive really. The price of housing is dictated by what you can borrow to buy it - by breaking the 3 x multiple (or thereabouts) principle the lenders have facilitated such ridiculous values. Where I live houses cost f**king fortunes. All my family think I'm rich but it's bo**ox ! I just pay higher council taxes because the house is 'worth' more. what the f**k that has to do with my ability to pay more is a mystery to me ! Like I said, it's not cash in my pocket. I don't know if I speak for anyone else but I certainly feel a slave to my house and mortgage ! It would seem a good idea to move to a more affordable area but this is where I grew up, all my friends are, my kids schools and their friends. I'm stuck because a few rich bankers decided to milk the rest of us even more than they already were. I think the authorities need to step in and introduce the concept of prudent and sensible lending. Otherwise where will it end. IIRC 'mortgage' is derived from the French language meaning something like 'death pact' - I fully expect to die still paying for my house !! Great !! :headvswal Monster Raving Loony Party Sorry about that - this is probably utter rubbish and in the wrong place anyway. Mark Right what's next on my Victor Meldrew list of hates ?

Tried short shift from Zcentre?
I got one when I had the car converted to manual by Luke years ago so haven't tried without - but I like the positive nature of the shift. Well worth it IMHO Mark

Triple A Pillar pods & what guages?
Definitely replace the A-piller and Oil Pressure, Boost and Water Temp for the guages. Just be careful when you first drive the car with them in ! I spent the whole time oggling the guages instead of looking where I was going !! Mark

My new strut brace
Steve No knocking at all thank goodness. I went for it as it looked the most substantial available and I thought it would eliminate any flex there might be at the front of the car. Ya5een IIRC I tried it that way round by mistake and it wouldn't fit  I seem to remember it did rub on the plenum - maybe I just have a terrible memory and I'm a crap mechanic :D !! Any recommendation for a rear bar ? Any pics anyone ?
-
My new strut brace
Yep it's fine. Although I can only imagine how tight it must be under there !!
-
My new strut brace
Mine came from the States $130 IIRC. It's lovely but scarily close to the plenum
-
My new strut brace
Same as mine !! FLAMIN' GORGEOUS !!

C'etait un Rendezvous (Getaway in Paris)
WOW !! What a soundtrack !!!!   I wish London was that quiet first thing in the morning ! I reckon the Met would probably chuck a stinger across the road if you tried it nowadays - and of course TFL would want their £5 !! Thank God I was driving my son's 1.0 Peugeot 206 that night or I would have been in serious trouble !! Mark

Availability of Z32 Fairlady 2-seater TT hardtop manual
All the parts for my manual conversion came out of a swb tt slick top in a scrap yard in Hants - looking back it wasn't badly damaged at all - a front wing and drivers door the only obvious damage. Maybe I should have bought the whole car and put it back on the road.........although it was silver so it would have been a bit slow ! Feeling a bit guilty now :( Mark

Odd thing.....
Just looking at this picture from an ad on ebay for a dash kit........ Am I going mad or is the centre console (handbrake, ash tray etc) the wrong way round ? My J-spec car is opposite to this and yet both are right hand drive    Is this a photo-shop effort and will the kit therefore be wrong for a right hand drive car ? Mark
-
Any ideas for gearknob
Sorry to waver from the subject but...... Sgt C - where did you get the leather interior ? Is it a kit (Z Centre etc) or a one-off re-trim ? Cheers Mark
